Dominate Your Server presents the Warlock class pages with everything you need to stay on top of the Warlock class for total Domination.  While we develop our class templates and build pages, here is the very latest information about the Warlock class from Blizzcon 2009 and how they might be changing with the Cataclysm expansion.

Cataclysm News – Warlock
  • Soul Shards are no longer in your bags. The goal is to make them fun, not a hassle.
  • Soul Shards will be integrated to the user interface. (Just like Death Knight runes)
  • You get three shards per fight, they will regen very quickly out of combat.
  • It will be possible to get more for long fights or mistakes through Drain Soul.
  • Soul Burn (New Spell) : Cost 1 Shard, 30 sec cooldown, off the GCD. Empowers your next spell, many (not all spells) behave differently when empowered.
  • Empowered Searing Pain : Next 3 Searing Pains crit
  • Empowered Summon Demon : Instant Cast
  • Empowered Soulfire : Instant Cast
  • Empowered Fear : Instant Cast
  • Empowered Death Coil : Longer Horror, more healing received.
  • They are only used in combat, summons or demons won’t use your shards.
  • Warlock’s survavibility wasn’t really good at the start of Wrath of the Lich King, but they’re in a pretty good place right now.

Where are your builds? I was looking for a warlock build, as I am re-starting my lvl 45 warlock to help a buddy level. Haven’t played him in years, so I was hoping for the current “best leveling build” given all the changes over the last 2 years. But, alas, nothing.

Demo spec is the best used to level.. VW will tank anything, with the glyph its even better. experiment with your channel spells and you can figure out how to solo every hunting quest in outland (except durn of course) and anything in NR that you could be bothered fighting. Also demo spec is where its at apparently at end-game which i just reached on my warlock. hope that helped – Moh of Dath’Remar

@Moh

A warlock on Dath’Remar, eh? I might just have to ask some advice, as a fellow 80 demo warlock. Are you alliance or horde?

I’m yet to purchase glyphs, as I haven’t really noticed the glyph tab in the talents. Not playing WoW for three years, then coming back and making a new account with all these changes is confusing :S But I like the changed XP rate.

(I am writing this at work so forgive the lack of specifics)

Affliction is the best spec for leveling and the fastest build in the game. Once you hit level 30 and get Siphon Life the ony thing that will slow you down is lack of enemies to kill.

On my Shaman it took me around a week played time to go 70-80 (Bad :( ), but on my Affliction Warlock I completed 70-80 in about 2 days played, it’s that overpowered.

Build wise you are going to want to spec into the skills that improve your Fel Hutner, Siphon Life, and into Haunt. After you fill out those skills you will want to head down Demonology, eventually end up with the improved shields.

Once you hit 80 you will want to keep your Affliction the same, but spec 10 points into the first 2 talents in the Destruction tree and then the last 5 points into the talent on the third tier that improves Destruction Spell crits.

Solo:>/b> Cast Haunt, Corruption, Curse of Agony Unstable Affliction, Corruption, Curse of Agony, Cast Haunt, Corruption, Curse of Agony, Repeat until everything is dead. I have personally walked into a camp of 15 mobs at or higher than my level and come out within a few moments with full health and mana.

Your Void Walker will be plenty for your questing needs. You will be able to solo grup quests easily. Simply sic your VW on the mob, apply corruption and slowly keep your VW up with Health Funnel. As the mob starts to drop in health keep Corruption up and cast Curse of Agony. Once the mob hits around 50% add the rest of your curses. Once you pull Aggro Soul Shatter. At this point the mob will be at around 25% health. DoT it up then start Soul Draining as it does a truckload of damage to mobs under 25% health. Mob will be dead and you will have solo’d your group quest.

Instances: (2 or more mobs) Seed of Corruption Seed of Corruption Seed of Corruption Repeat as needed and enjoy the top of the DPS meters.

(1 non boss mob) This is where you will be at your weakest. Shadow Bolt spam since the mob will die quickly. If it is a bit stronger Cast Corruption and Shadow Bolt Spam.

(Boss Mobs) Haunt-> Corruption-> Unstable Affliction-> Curse of Agony, Shadowbolt Spam. Never let Haunt fall off, don’t worry about clipping your DoT. For the rest of your curses you want to let them expire as clipping DoTs causes a loss in DPS. You lose your final tick of your curse and have to wait for the first tick of the new curse. With enough Haste you will top the DPS meters yet again.

Overall Demo and Destro are very good builds, but they are just outclassed by the survivability, sheer killing power, and speed of Affliction.

Warlocks and rogues from what i understand in the last update were made more powerful do to the fact them being more rare due to the rise in mages for portals, DK’s and warriors for tanks, and shamans for support damage and healing, anybody that says warlocks are weak, well lets see how long u last against a full demon spec warlock when he metamorphs on you and you die in 2 seconds flat, plus with 3 warlocks you can spawn an entire raid group to an area
