One Spell You Probably Never Use – But Should

We’ve posted the video below before, just because it’s a little funny (in a “OMG that guy is a psycho” kind of way). And the reason we are doing so again has to do with AoE. That’s right, AoE. And yes, we are well aware of the fact that AoE DPS doesn’t count for anything. But, even though it won’t help you with ICC hard mode bosses, it’s still kind of fun to see something like 20,000 DPS on that big pull at the front of the plague wing.

We show the video again because it turns out that all mages should be running around screaming “I’M CASTING FLAME STRIKE! AHHHRRRRRR!” Yes, root it out of the bowels of your spell book and stick it on your actions bars somewhere again. Way back in the day Flame Strike was pretty common, but now about the only time you see the animation is from the mages in HoR. Turns out it hurts, and it’s also a great way to boost your AoE Damage.

The best way to use Flame Strike is to wind one up as the tank is pulling the group. It will work best, of course, if you are familiar with your tank and know where he likes to set up. But just put a flame strike on the area where the mobs are forming and then Blizzard on top of them; death from above, death from below. (Doesn’t really fit with “one if by land” – oh whatever).

Another interesting thing about Flame Strike you may not know is that the AoE effect stacks. Two flame strikes will tick for 5 or 6 seconds together. You aren’t putting the AoE on a particular mob, you’re putting it on the ground. You’ll have to get a little creative to figure out how to use this effectively since a FS cast will eat up two seconds of Blizzard (which can crit, and FS doesn’t), but it’s something to keep filed away in your WoW memory bank. Also keep in mind that you want to try to catch as many mobs as possible in the burst when FS goes off, that’s where the meat of the damage comes in, the AoE is just gravy.

Whether or not you want to go double FS and then Blizz will be something you have to fiddle with. But if you did, you would get burst, burst, AoE, AoE, AoE. Sounds like fun. Your DPS for the next four seconds with double FS and Blizz hammering away is just ridiculous.

I sometimes find myself waiting around for a tank to get everything within the boundaries of Blizzard, although you don’t have to do so. But either way, a few quick heroics revealed that using a Flame Strike right before you channel a Blizzard certainly does buff your AoE DPS quite a bit. You’re getting two ticks of DPS almost the whole time Blizz is going on.

You’ll need to test for yourself whether it is worth putting up another FS after each Blizzard cast. A lot of it is going to be determined by how much health the mobs have left (as well as how many there are). At least this will give you something to do with your brain time – a bit of a change for Arcane mages who have worn a groove in three buttons. Here are a few pointers:

In groups of more than three

Flame Strike and Blizzard once at the start of the pull

If three or more mobs are left after the first Blizz, repeat FS/Blizz if most have more than 50% health left.

If there are three mobs or more with less than 50% health, Blizz until death – OR -

If less than three mobs are left or a pull of just one or two mobs:

Flame Strike and then single target

Yeah, it’s not a bad idea to get a little AoE on even two mobs. Since it’s ticking away while you blast something to bits, it’s just more DPS you can put on the mob. You’ll want to cast your FS while the mobs are out of range of arcane blast, of course, so that you don’t burn up your casting time on FS for your heavy hitters. That’s what we mean about using up some brain time on this one instead of just hammering three buttons.

Timing your FS to get it out before you can cast an AB may not even be possible most of the time, and you certainly don’t want to trade even a single AB just to make sure you get a FS off all the time. Besides that, if your tank ends up sitting the mob down outside of the FS area, it was just a waste of mana. The trick is to catch the mob in the FS burst and be halfway through an AB before he even takes his first swing at the tank. And then pray the tank can hold aggro.

As mentioned by Graceygirl below, another neat trick to really max out your AoE is to use Presence of Mind just before your first Flame Strike. PoM triggers the Arcane Potency buff which will increase the crit chance of your next two spells by 30%. PoM will also make the Flame Strike an instant cast, it just doesn’t get much better than that. However, you won’t be able to do it on every pull, as PoM has a 1.4 min cooldown. But every minute and a half is quite often, and you should not overlook it.

But, if you are good at anticipating mob position and can mash four buttons instead of just three you can find some really good spots to squeeze out an extra 4000-500 DPS on single and two mob pulls, and several thousand on big pulls by using Flame Strike. Just be sure to yell a lot while you Dominate.

Interesting Items In The Next Patch

We recently put up a page for the Patch WoW links at Blizz. But we also want to give you some more insights incase you don’t go into patch notes like some folks (and you know who you are). So here are the more interesting tidbits coming from the current PTR notes.

Titansteel bars will no longer have a cooldown, expect prices to drop a bit since supply will be able to more adequetly match demand. The same thing applies to Moonshroud, Spellweave and Ebonweave – no more cooldowns on those.

Random dungeons have been such a hit that the concept is moving into the Battlegrounds. Using this system will give you extra honor equivalent to 30 kills the first time through each day and an extra 15 for further BG’s the same day. Since honor per kill is being doubled, that’s going to mean a lot more honor in random BG’s than queueing for specific battles. Marks of honor for specific battles are also being removed, we can only assume that those items which required marks will now be purchased with honor instead.

the deserter debuff for bailing on a random dungeon has been increased to 30 minutes. leaving a random party for any reason will trigger this debuff, which overwrites the usual 15 minute debuff. This will prevent some of the goonery for instances like Occulus, where people leave the second they see where they are. Honestly, just make the run mon.

For holiday bosses, you can now queue for the encounter without having to do the prequel quests each year. As long as you’ve done the boss before at least once you can just queue up random and go spank them.

But the big one is that those worthless Frozen orbs will now actually be useful for more than just vendoring. A new NPC is being added in Dalaran that will convert your Frozen orbs to other items. Here is the list of what he sells in exchange for frozen orbs (consider this to be currently accurate but Blizz has been knows to change their mind at the last minute). You can see the (current) list of items Frozo is selling at the link below.

Items you can get from Frozo the Renowned

Frost Lotus for a Runed Orb – that’s going to help some. It’s also going to raise the value of the orbs a bit and lower values for certain eternals. Since only one orb drops per heroic, there shouldn’t be a huge change in Ah prices for the items above, but beware the first week or two while everyone blows through all their extra orbs they might have sitting around.

I’m kicking myself now for finally vendoring about 60 of them, but you might be able to snag a few cheap stack off the AH before this change goes live. There are also some class changes you’ll want to take a look at. Once again DK’s are getting the most fiddling while most other classes remain fairly static.

It’s not what we would call a Dominating patch, but Frozo and the random battlegrounds will be a nice couple of changes.

Powerleveling Leather Working From 1 to 450

Leatherworking is one of those professions that doesn’t get a whole lot of play. But it does have reasonable gold-making and toon buffing potential for your character – plus it’s not all that expensive to power level if you do it properly. Having a good Leatherworking Guide can certainly save you time and expense. The link above will take you all the way through the steps to do it cheaper and faster.

Primarily we recommend that you use professions that have the greatest benefit to your toon for end-game activities such as arena and raiding. The crafting professions are generally best for this but the list of professions with the best toon buffs combinations is fairly short.

You’ll see a lot of casters going with Tailoring and Enchanting, while mail and plate wearers tend to go with Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting for their min/max needs. It’s hard to beat those combinations for pure added power. However, if you already have those professions covered and need something different for balance Leatherworking isn’t a bad choice either.

The fur linings can actually outdo the extra gem slots from blacksmithing, even if you are slotting in the JC only gems. If Spell Power and Attack power fit your toon needs best, Leatherworking is a great choice.

The Leg armors and drums also have some decent profit potential from auction house sales. And considering there are probably far fewer Leatherworkers than Tailors on many servers it means that for the most part you can probably make more selling leg armors than threads. That’s not always the case on every server, but you might look into it.

Getting all the mats for leather working may be a little tough for power leveling, but if you know ahead of time what you need and have any patience at all at the ah you should be able to get it done without too much waiting and expense. Northrend mats should be plentiful, it’s the mid levels that might give you fits. A DK alt with skinning is just the ticket to solve that issue.

If you’re cheap, and don’t mind farming, skinning is a joke to level. If you skin your way through the mats list in our Leatherworking Guide, you’ll have no trouble making it through the rougher parts of the leatherworking mats. Plus, DK’s come with all the flight paths and and epic land mount to boot, so you don’t have to waste skinning on a main.

So while Leather working may not be your first choice, it’s certainly not a bad choice for an end-game profession. And if you’re using it for raiding you may very well end up with one of the new 264 ilevel gear recipes which are selling quite well in patch 3.3. As a matter of fact – I may just do JC/LW on my old druid. In the end leveling leatherworking is not all that hard and gives you a chance to Dominate in raids and at the AH.

Well, Not Exactly A Bubblehearth, But It’s Close

If you know Lawbringer at all (especially from the Dominate guilds) you know that I absolutely loath pvp. Yes, I know it makes me weak and inferior to Fonze and the Dudes and all that yadda-yadda. Whatever, I can live with the big fat monster gaping empty hole in my game. It’s just not gonna happen. I have no desire and certainly not enough time to learn all the nuances of that part of the game. I’ll just stick with making a ton of gold and being a go-to healer for everything else.

Since I do dislike PvP so adamantly it pained me to level my last two characters on a pvp server. Nothing breaks the flow of a good leveling session than being ganked 5 times in Stranglethorn because some lvl 80 is running around getting his kicks knocking off all the level 40′s. Seriously, go arena or whateveritis you folks do. It’s an even bigger waste of time to try to “teach them a lesson” and go get your 80 to spank them as this normally becomes an all-out zone war.

So for the most part I just go do something else and let the pvp goobers duke it out while I do something resembling constructive. This is all tongue-in-cheek of course. I have nothing against you if you love pvp, it’s just not my cup of tea. So anything that keeps me from having to deal with it is a very nice cup of tea that I enjoy greatly. Which brings us to the following tip.

It’s one of those teeny tiny little bits that’s not going to change the way you play wow, and most of you will be relatively unimpressed. But it’s a cool little loophole that might save you an hour or two while leveling on a pvp server, or any time after that for that matter. It’s cheap, convenient and gives you an almost paladin-like bubble hearth that is pretty effective.

It’s not QUITE as good as a bubble, since you can’t just stand there with folks hammering away at your invulnerablness while you get your hearth cast off. So technically NOT a true bubblehearth, but it’s as close as you’re going to get without being a paladin.

We’ll call it the HideNhearth, and it will only work if you are out of combat. So it’s not going to save you from being one shot if you’ve already been targeted by that level 80, but it will certainly completely eliminate the chain ganking corpse camping scenario. You don’t even have to have blazing fast timing or reflexes, just a short stack of potions and your hearthstone on a hot key somewhere.

Here’s how it works:

Pop a Potion of Lesser Invisibility

Hearth

Get on with your day

Couldn’t be easier. You see, the lesser invisibility potion is not broken by the hearthstone cast, such as mage invisibility, Night elf Shadowmeld, or Rogue Vanish and Stealth. There is no other “hide and hearth while you are hiding” skill in the game. All you can do under other forms of stealth is – hide, and maybe run around a bit. Shadowmeld doesn’t even allow you to do that.

All the above skills WILL drop you out of combat, and that is important here. You can’t go under the effects of Lesser Invis potion in combat, so if you’re already targetted you’re left with the “run like a sissy” option and hope they just leave you alone. But if you are already dead, you can just hit the potion as you rez and hearth and leave your potential corpse camper sitting around or a while waiting on something that aint gonna happen. Which I like – you waste my time, I waste yours.

The really funny thing about this tip is that I took my banking toon – Auctionear – out to try to get a decent screenshot for this, but unfortunately being under the effects of invis make for a sorry screenshot. I was going to run over to a Horde hot spot and try to show this in action, and while I was on my way to Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula some level 80 guy named “Uwilldie” (undead rogue) flew over and dismounted right next to me. Level 68 DK vs T9/10 rogue, no way. I’m trying to MAKE gold on this guy not going for repair bills. So I pop a potion and hearth – doesn’t get more real and in-game relevant than that. I had to chuckle about how much I might have used it leveling my mage. You’ll forgive me for not having a crummy screenie.

The potions should be pretty cheap, and you probably won’t use this technique too often, which makes it an inexpensive way to buy back some time and less frustration. It’s not exactly what you might call Dominating, but it is a useful tip and thanks to Beastarro for sending it to us at editor@dominateyourserver.com At the very least it’s worth one slot in your bags and a “where the heck did so-and-so go” every now and then when you’re bored.

Win A Little Swag And See Your Toon Enshrined On DYS

You may have noticed that we are updating our class pages to link to all the specs we’ve been posting. In the interest of making things look a little better around here what we really need is a few good pictures of each class in action.

Now, Law could go and do them all (at least one level 80 of every class, except Lock and Rogue) but we know how picky you guys can be. It just wouldn’t do to have pics of, say, my pathetic little Paladin in crud gear posing as Dominating. But we know that not only do our regular readers have some seriously geared toons, they also have a good eye for the artistic.

A while back during the Midsummer festival event we had a little screenshot contest: Screenshot Contest, The Votes Are In. First place went to the lovely Fran Molina who submitted the fantastic shot below. Boy, does 18 months seem like a really long time ago. We’ve come a long way at DYS since then, but one thing hasn’t changed, our readers still Dominate.

It’s time to show off your skills once again. We need you to get on your mains and snag some killer screenies of your toon in action. We’ll all vote on the best of the best and your screenshot will be featured on our class pages. The grand prize will be a $50.00 gift certificate to J!nx, where you can get some killer swag for your sweetie (or yourself if you’re like that) for Valentine’s day (if everyone hurries). Second and third place will get WoW time cards so you can play free for a while.

Maybe it’s a pic of you doing the Captain Morgan leg-up on Arthas. Perhaps it’s your toon in Mimiron’s head or some other wicked flying mount you bagged. Anything and everything we’ll put up for a vote. But one thing is for sure, we need some truly Dominating pics for each class. Voting begins when we have at least one screenshot of each class (so hurry up) and then we’ll post them all for voting.

So get those screenshots submitted in the next few days and we’ll find out who gets to have their toon be the spokesperson for their class right here at DYS.

Send your screenshots to editor@dominateyourserver.com with the subject line “class screenshot”

How To Meet All Your Meta Gem Requirements With One Stone

For the min/max guy this is going to just make you mad so you can go read something else. But if you’re a normal person and sometimes wonder exactly what gem to put in every single slot you have you may just appreciate this tip. It’s a neat trick because it’s a pretty cheap way of getting your meta gem activated without having to put something goofy in a yellow socket just because you need something yellow.

For almost every class, you are going to end up with a piece of gear with a strange socket color. And that means you have to start doing all the math over again or maybe you’ve just given up (like Fury warriors and some Shaman healers) and just chosen the best gem and it goes in every single slot no matter what – socket bonuses be danged. Or maybe you just go cross-eyed wondering where in the heck you’re going to get a blue gem to activate your Meta gem in your helm when you’ve got zero blue sockets in sight. (don’t forget about Eternal Belt Buckles by the way).

Only problem with saying bye-bye to your socket bonuses is that you probably don’t have all of the right color gems in place to activate your meta gem. We’re not going to go into picking meta gems for class and spec, that’s an argument waiting to happen (and it can happen somewhere else).

But there is one little gem that should be easy to get your hands on no matter what server you’re on that will activate any meta gem no matter what the requirements are with a single socket. That gem is the Nightmare Tear.

Not terribly long ago this was a JC only gem, but patch 3.2 made it available to everyone as a unique equipped item. That means you can only use one of them, but at least you don’t have to be a Jewelcrafter any more. The price on some servers may be a little higher than you would like, since making one requires a Dragon’s eye, but you should be able to peg the price for getting this cut from the price of Dragon’s eyes on your AH (if there are any). The only other mats required are 5 infinite dust, and there is probably more of that on most servers now than there is real dust in your house.

The cool thing about the nightmare tear is that since it will fit any socket color it also acts for some odd reason as every socket color once you put it in. So for frustrating Meta gems like the Relentless Earthseige Diamond which requires three different gem colors to activate, you can throw a Nightmare Tear in your helm with this and get on with your day.

Granted, for some classes, like mages, this isn’t the greatest choice. And for the mage there are plenty of good gem choices that make the use of the Nightmare Tear to activate a Meta completely unnecessary. But even for Mages if you just want to throw a meta in a level 219 hood or something while you are gearing up and don’t feel like spending another few hundred gold activating it, a single nightmare tear isn’t a bad idea.

It’s a hassle free way to get around not having to use a Yellow gem if you really don’t want to waste another socket on a Yellow gem when there aren’t any decent yellow gems for your class or spec; or any other color for that matter. It’s a pretty easy way to activate any meta gem no matter what the requirements might be. It’s not even lazy, but it is easy – and Dominating.

One Simple Macro Is A Big Help

Everyone is looking for things that will make playing the game simpler. Unfortunately, simple isn’t always better. But every now and then you run across something that really changes the way you play. We don’t always do simple (because the pros gripe at us), but it’s a pretty good bet that not everyone knows about this little gem.

If you’re a healer, you already know about this one, although you might not even know it. Anyone who uses Clique, Healbot or Vuhdo use it all the time, it’s just built into those mods. But recently I ran across a situation where I needed to extend the capability of clicking on something to cast a spell.

Every time we do a post about gear we get hecklers. When we do product reviews it really is because we like the thing, not because we’re paid to talk about them. The Razer Naga mouse is a great example, the G13 from Logitech is another. Yes, you can do well with a two dollar mouse and the keyboard, but the G13 and the Naga really make the game easier to play at a much faster pace.

The problem is that not every product interfaces well with the game UI and all your mods. In other words, getting the G13 and the Naga to do everything I wanted them to do wasn’t just a matter of plugging them in. The G13 really needs bartender and the Naga . . . is a story all it’s own. The Naga has a product specific in-game mod, but it overrides Bartender, so I had to find another way to get those 12 extra buttons to work.

The issue there was that I wanted to be able to use those buttons by clicking on the Vuhdo bars. That turned out to be tricky. But the neat thing is that once I found the solution it made a LOT of things easier on all my toons – and not just for healing. The solution is also so easy that even a complete newbie can figure out ways to use it without having to know everything about the game or being a master at making macros. And you will even find plenty of ways to use it even if you don’t use stuff like the G13 and Naga.

Let me introduce you to the mouseover macro

The mouseover macro lets you cast any spell you like on any target without having to target them first. OK, that sounds wierd, so let’s go at it another way. There are several ways to “target” a friendly player or mob. One way is to click on their toon, lots of folks target this way, clicking on the boss or mob directly instead of tab targeting. Tab targeting is another way to do this. The only problem is that tabbing may or may not select the mob you want to actually target, so you’re looking for the red aura around their feet to see what you are nuking. Another method is to click on a character portrait. You can click on a bar in your group or raid in any UI to target a friendly player. There are other ways to target with hot keys, but we won’t review them all.

As you can see, each method has certain drawbacks. If you tab target you can’t target friendly players and don’t have complete control and may have to tab several times to get the right target. If you are trying to target friendly units, you have to click a portrait or the player’s toon directly. There isn’t really one targeting method that does everything – but the mouseover macro fixes all of that.

All you have to do is open the macro screen and type this:

/cast [target=mouseover] Spellname

Now, the spell name needs to be whatever spell you want to cast exactly as it appears in the tooltip. For instance, if you want a macro for something you rarely use but need to cast quickly in an emergency, such as Lay On Hands, you would make the macro read like this:

/cast [target=mouseover] Lay on Hands

Notice that the words ‘Lay’ and ‘Hands’ have a capital letter, but ‘on’ does not. You have to type the spell name in exactly the way it appears in the tooltip.

It comes in handy for a lot of spells for every class. And what it does is reduce your reaction times by a click or two. Instead of having to target something with a tab or a click, all you have to do is hover your mouse over the toon, the portrait, or any other bar on your UI and hit the button for the macro. You don’t have to hit a button to target and then hit the one for the macro.

Warriors can use it for things like intervene, intercept and interrupts. Paladins might want lay on hands and divine intervention. Mages might like it for something like slow fall and priests for levitate. I use it on my druid for innervate. Anything you want to cast where it’s just easier to hover your mouse and hit a single button that helps you play faster is fair game.

So for my Naga mouse, I have up to six mouseover skills on the bar assigned to the mouse, and then Vuhdo for the standard stuff on left and right click and the scroll wheel. This little macro has opened up a whole new level of versatility and I just didn’t know about it until I needed to find a solution. It’s nothing new, but it just might help you Dominate like never before.

We’re a big fan of nifty peripherals here at DYS, just in case you hadn’t noticed, but every now and then even we get blown away. Every month or two we test a new product in the market to see if it offers something more for our readers. In order to get a review at this site, the thing really has to add something to the wow experience for the novice and pro alike. Not making our cut doesn’t mean it’s a bad product, just that it doesn’t meet our Dominating and demanding flavor.

But every now and again we come across something that actually changes the way we play. The Sennheiser headphones are great, but won’t really make you a terrific player. The G13 game pad will – I still use both of them every single time I play. But the Razer Naga blows away everything we’ve ever reviewed by such a huge margin that it’s a little hard to know where to start saying just how good it really is.

First things first, then. It’s a standard size mouse (even though the button field looks pretty intimidating in the pic above) with 12 extra keys on the thumb side (for righties anyway). That is the big difference between the Naga and every other mouse on the planet. It has the standard left, right, scroll, scroll click, four and five buttons as most gaming mice – but adds twelve more keys for your thumb. One look and we KNEW we had to give it a spin.

How Does It Feel?

In just ten seconds it was apparent it was the most comfortable mouse ever. It’s like holding hands with your sweetheart. The texture is just smooth enough to be soft, just matte enough to be completely slip free. Not only do your index and middle finger glide into the perfect rest position, but there is a little shelf for your ring finger and a cup for your pinky that actually make it more relaxing to have your hand on your mouse than anywhere else. You hate to let go of the thing to type. So in the tactile area the Naga gets a 10+ out of 10.

Cursor Response

The drivers are super easy to install both on Mac and PC. The interface is clean and offers a degree of movement control that is nothing short of outstanding. It supports Dpi ranges from 100 to 5600 – which is a range from nearly dead turtle to fighter jet speed. You can also adjust the acceleration factor and frequency response over broad ranges. But the really slick part is that you can set it to control the X and Y axis Dpi independently. That is a real WoW factor. If you use a wide screen setup it is so nice to have the cursor move faster from left to right than up and down. Cursor response and setup = 10 of 10

Movement and Function

Most mice have a few little slip pads on the bottom and a big bright lazer or whatever. This beauty has a slip ring around the entire perimeter of the bottom, which makes it glide like butter. It even has an extra slip ring that completely surrounds the invisible lazer orifice. One thing is for certain, if your mousing surface isn’t completely clean, you’ll know it in about half a second. (we also prefer the Lazer exact mat for all our mice, but it’s especially nice with the Naga). I prefer a free-wheeling mouse, but since very few have that option I can’t deduct too much for the incremental scroll. The four and five buttons are right up at the very front and absolutely WILL give your a hand cramp if you try to use them very often, but we’ll get to why this makes almost no difference later. And, finally the button clicks are easy enough to make without much force, but firm enough to avoid lots of accidental clicks – pretty much perfect. Movement and function = 9 of 10

Extra Juice

Now we get to the good stuff. Those 12 extra buttons are so good it’s not even fair to rate this thing against other mice. It turns all those other mice into meece. There’s everything else – and then there’s the Naga. I pitched my G3 in a drawer for good and didn’t have a qualm in the world about doing so – and I loved that mouse. Even apart from the extended functionality, the Naga is just a much better overall mouse, but those extra keys are WAY past incredible. And then I played with them.

I fully intended to try to use as little hyperbole as possible, but that’s completely impossible in this situation. Compared to every other mouse I’ve ever used – and I go through mice like a tomcat, the Naga would have no peer, leaving even the G3 completely in the dust. But those extra buttons make it so different that it becomes completely unfair to all the other mice in the world. If the G3 (a really good mouse) rated a 45 out of 50, the Naga (even without the buttons) would have raised the bar to 60, and that’s no kidding. Those 12 new buttons put the bar at 100, and we’ll put the Naga right there 95 out of 100, which means there really isn’t any way to compare apples to apples. everything else just got pwned.

That extra button pad automatically binds to either the: 1 through = keys on your keyboard or the number pad keys, whichever you prefer. I already had bar one and two in Bartender assigned to those suckers as it is, so with the flip of a switch I can use my one mouse to toggle 24 keys – it’s so slick you have to use it to believe it. And then comes Vuhdo – yikes.

Plug this thing into Vuhdo and you are one little macro command away from complete and total healing Domination. And, in reality, it could almost make the choice between Healbot, Grid/Clique and Vuhdo closer to meaningless than ever before. We’ll discuss that macro in the next article since it’s so slick and useful for so many other situations, but just know that you probably would never use it nearly as much without the Naga.

You’re Wasting Time Here!

All there is left to say is get one. Get one right this minute. Do not pass go, do not argue, just get it and Dominate. Ask for it for Thanksgiving, your birthday, Christmas and New Years. Beg, borrow, cheat, lie, steal or work like a fiend until you can get one. Get up from your chair right now and go to the store – yes, it’s THAT good. Once you plug this dude in, you’ll find 50 new ways it can improve your WoW life in about 5 minutes. I am seriously excited about this thing, as if you couldn’t tell, but it really is the single best gaming peripheral I have ever seen.

If you can’t stand it, and we’ve done our job, you can click on the pic at the top of this article (or below) to go directly to Amazon and get one for yourself. You don’t have to use our link, of course, but honestly, once you use the Naga you’ll never know how you played with anything else. Go get one, and bring your Domination to a whole new level of pwn.

Dominate Your Server Launches Alliance Faction Guild In Two Flavors

You’ve been asking about it for a while now, and Dominate Your Server is always listening. Last October we launched the Dominate Horde guild on the Fenris realm, and now it’s time we did the same for Alliance.

We’ve been getting ready in advance this time, and have a couple of options for all of you ally freaks out there. First of all, we took a little flak for the horde guild being on a pansy-wansy PvE server. None of that this time. Our Alliance guild is on a full out warfare PvP server.

Our experience with the Horde guild also taught us that we needed to be pretty certain that we picked the right time zone so that both late night and early raiders can all get in on the action, so the new server is Pacific Time to ensure that those folks on the East Coast have a good shot at getting their fill of raiding at peak server pop times.

Next, we also wanted to make sure that everyone got the experience they needed from the guild. We have a lot of casual players in Dominate, but also a group of pretty serious folks who really want to kick some butt and take some names. To make sure that everyone has a place without rubbing each other the wrong way, we’re not just announcing one Alliance guild – but two.

For the casual player who just wants to hang out with folks and have a good time with people who have their WoW screwed on straight, thee is the DYS guild. DYS will be the nub and learning friendly place to come hang out and get geared up or hone your skills until you are ready to join a much more elite group of raiding folks.

From the very top of the Dominate guild, a group of our senior officers have agreed to defect to Alliance and have formed a sister guild – Dyssention. Dyssention is a hard core raiding team with one goal in mind – clear content now and let Arthas beware. These guys will be raiding all the time, I kid you not, and will have some of the best players we’ve ever seen. You’ll need to apply for Dyssention and you can get details for that during the first live DYS guild meeting.

The meeting will be this Friday at 6pm server time, which (in case you missed it) is pacific. That means 9pm on the east coast. If you’re out of the country you’ll need to figure it out on your own, but I’m sure you’re used to that by now. We’ll meet right outside the front gate of Stormwind to sign everyone up. So come and join the fun, or come to find out more about Dyssention. Either way, DYS wants to give fair and equal treatment to both sides in the Horde vs. Alliance debate.

And even though Law and Gavin are snowed under with an exciting new project these days, you’ll be able to catch them sneaking about the Ally guilds in the coming weeks as Dyssention clears content like a bunch of crazed dogs. So come meet the crew, and make some new friends with DYS and Dyssention this Friday at 6pm server time on the Kalecgos realm. Whether you already DOminate, or want to learn how, you’re sure to find a place in DYS. See everyone Friday!

Belisárius’ Journal.

Level 67.

Draenei Protection Paladin

You are now eligible to enter Eye of the Storm.

Zone in, buffs all around. 1 minute until the battle begins. Spam Consecration, talk some premature trash about the enemy, and hit space bar as rapidly as you can. Wait for the countdown. 30 seconds.

Check your buffs Blessing of Sanctuary, Seal of Wisdom, Righteous Fury.

Time’s up! I pop my knuckles. Let’s do this.

Mounted on my Black War Tiger, I speed towards the nearest Tower. A Retribution Paladin and an Unholy Death Knight stand with me to hold the Tower, which is a formidable combination to even the most seasoned PvPers. The scale shifts towards the Alliance. We look out over the battlefield and wait.

They come all at once. Three, maybe four of them. I always lose track with all the pets. First target; Avenger’s Shield, Hammer of the Righteous, Consecration, Holy Shield, Hammer of Justice, Flash of Light, Gift of the Naaru, HotR again, Judgement of Wisdom, Holy Shield, Consecration. Somewhere I had killed the first and found a new target. Hammer of Justice- then gg for the second victim. I utilize my Holy Light casting timer to take note of the battlefield. The Death Knight is gone, dead probably. I exhale. The other Paladin is still alive. We got this.

We mana up, heal up, prepare for the next wave.

The first one up is an enemy Death Knight. Three for four allies show up and finish what we start. The Horde Death Knight dies, stun-locked by the Paladin duo. But then the rest of the the Horde DK’s friends arrive. At least five of them. I pick out a Warlock and stun. Avenger’s Shield! 3.5k crit! I try to pry my eyes off the pretty floating number and back to the action. Consecrate the ground, Hammer of the Righteous, Holy Shield, heal a comrade, stun, heal myself, retreat, Holy Shield, Avenger’s Shield. Dead Horde. Hammer of Wrath finishes off a straggler.

Again, we have held the Tower. We’re winning the battle, but not by much. We haven’t been able to push to the middle, to control the flag, and somehow, the Horde as pushed to our side and assaulted the other Tower.

I take a quick survey of our hilltop Tower, mount up, and leave the Ret Paladin and another defender to help the others. Switch to Crusader Aura, getting closer annnnd back to to Retribution Aura. Dismount, stun, consecrate, Holy Shield, silenced! Hop away, oh no. Four on one. I’m doomed. Avenger’s Shield, pop bubble. /dance. Stun, Hammer of Wrath. Got one, consecrate, bubble times out.

There are more of them now. Blows reign down on me from all sides. Poison seeps out of my body as my stunned self takes blow after blow from an angry Horde. I block some, but more and more get through. As my health drops to a flatline, I manage one last Consecration. A mediocre parting blow, but a parting blow nonetheless.

I’m dead. 30 seconds to Resurrection.

I quickly run my eyes over the statistics. Top KBs, second or first in everything else. First death.

10 seconds.

The Light fills my eyes. I am alive. Buffing up, I smile. Let’s do this.
