How Much Gold Can This Guy Make You?

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building, World of Warcraft

You know that we give a lot of gold making tips at Dominate Your Server.  And most of the time we only talk about things that you can do NOW, or at the very least SOON.  But every now and then we come across something that’s going to require a bit of a wait, but you have to act NOW if it’s really going to make you any serious gold.

Most of the time, these gold-making opportunities are related to the holiday events.  For instance, Moneybaggins keeps a couple dozen stacks of snowballs around and small eggs to put on the AH the next year the week before the Christmas event begins.

This one is the same sort of thing, only you won’t have to wait that long.  But, you might actually choose to wait even longer than a year if you have that kind of patience.  All you can really say for a fact is that you need to hurry and grab some of these before the prices get silly, and get a bunch of them if you can.

The item in question is the Haunted Memento that drops from the mobs at the crystals during the scourge invasion event.  The mementos are unique, so you can’t carry more than one, but they don’t soul-bind, so you can transfer them around all you want one at a time.  The item even works a bit like the heavy leather ball in that you can throw it at other players to haunt them.  But you don’t want to give this one away.

Prices for the haunted memento are already climbing close to 100g on some servers.  In six months it will be 500g or more.  Since there may never be another chance for anyone to get their hands on these ever again, this is really a one-time opportunity to turn a basically worthless item into big gold later down the road.

It will be one of those vanity things that everyone wishes they had kept, and the ghost following you around is just pretty cool - IF you can get your hands on the haunted memento and keep the thing.

That’s where you come in.  Offer to buy these from anyone you can, buy them on the AH when possible, beg, borrow, cheat, steal to get as many as you can and then flip them back and forth between your mule and your banker in the mail for a long as you can stand it.

Pets And Profits

Posted by Nameless Demon Hunter in Auction House, Gold Building, World of Warcraft

Everyone is stoked with the new patch 3.0.2. Something new that blizzard specifically added was the achievements. The achievements is a new system that offers combined game content that players can earn by completing the selected field. This can range from doing a certain amount of quests to exploring the world of Azeroth, Outland, and soon Northrend.

What achievements offer is for players to get that complete feel of domination towards WoW, and it most certainly helps. What people really want to know is what does the achievement system have to offer?

Although most of the specific rewards are still unknown, the bounty of completing certain achievements will give each player the right to earn certain rewards and titles. For example, if you are rep’d (exalted) fully in all five major cities you will receive a special title for doing this. Another is if you collect 50 mounts you will receive a special mount.

We won’t know everything until the xpac comes out, but this is just a little taste of what to expect. What I want to tell you is a little secret I discovered with this new system.

One of the achievements available is to earn 50 pets. By doing this, players can earn a special pet when completed. Pets can be a pain to collect, but there are gamers out there that want to help their fellow man (what?), or profit themselves. Whatever you motive is this small guide will help!

High level players will pay anything to get what they want, when they want it and they want it right now. If it costs 50g for a pet, they will pay just that so they can complete their achievement list. Below are listed pets that you can obtain very easily, then turn around and sell them for a 1000% profit or more on the AH.

Ancona Chicken – This is sold by Magus Tirth in the shimmering flats. Not many people know about this guy and even more so, they don’t know he sells a pet. Both sides can obtain it easily. It costs 1g and I have sold them for 25g in the alliance ah. It may depend different on your server, no one may not be selling them at all. Take advantage and put it up for 50g, they will sell. Some may have already figured this out and the prices dropped to 10g. A 9g profit is still a big percentage and it adds up when you sell a lot of them.

This next strategy calls for having a toon on both horde and alliance sides. Saying this, pvp servers won’t be able to profit. Take your toon and buy up a bunch of the opposite server pets, such as cats in SW or dragonhawks at fairbreeze village. Then use the neutral AH and have your buddy buy them from your character. Check your ah and be prepared to make a lot of gold, chances are none will be listed allowing you to set the price.

On my server, the alliance AH are selling dragonhawks for 75g BO and there are not for sale yet at the AH. Even if people know how to obtain the opposite faction pets, they are still willing to pay a certain price just so they don’t have to hassle with the neutral AH exchange. So get those pets collected and dominate your AH with such a simple strategy yielding huge profits!

You can take a look at this page from Warcraftpets.com to see all 33 pets available from vendors. Stock up on these and sell them at the AH for a nice profit.

Inscription Guide

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building, World of Warcraft

Inscription went live on October 15th with patch 3.0.2, and a lot of our subscribers who have been paying attention to our advice made thousands of gold in a matter of a few hours.

We’ve leveled Inscription with every beta and PTR patch, and we know it like the back of our hands. We’ve done it more than 20 times through all the crazy changes, and farmed who knows how many herbs in the process. In a previous post, I reported that in just a little over 4 days I hit the gold cap of 214,000 gold selling glyphs in the Beta.

I’ve been telling you for a while that Inscription is going to be a huge gold-making machine. I’ve spent the last four years playing this game, and I look at World of Warcraft a bit differently than most players. I know how to spot tidbits in patch notes and see gold hidden between the lines. I know how to take advantage of special events and how to get prepared ahead of time. Inscription has the potential to make you more gold than anything else, ever. Period.

When I sat down to write this guide, I didn’t want some low-rent list of what to craft and in what order – those things are all over the internet (and already outdated, and most are dead wrong to boot!)

So we put our heads together and our noses to the grindstone, and when the smoke had cleared, we had a monster 40 page Inscription guide that teaches you what to make, when to make it, how to sell it, and how to squeeze every last gold coin out of the other players on your server.

Here Are Some Of The Things I Teach in my Inscription Guide:
·

  • Inscription Basics - I’ll talk you through exactly how Inscription works for the scribe from start to finish. If you know how it works before you try to work it you’ll be a master of the profession before you even hit 375
  • Why You Should Do Inscription - Learn how big this market is really going to be, and why it’s worth THOUSANDS of gold to you
  • Selling Glyphs - Understand exactly how to sell everything you make with Inscription
  • Mods you simply must have - Grab the tools you will need to make sure you stay on top of all the noob scribes and nutballs out there
  • Pricing Strategies - Learn how to price your glyphs to sell like mad and still make maximum profits
  • Maximizing Your Profits - Where you’ll learn how to position Major and Minor glyphs on the market to bury yourself in piles of gold and why Minor glyphs may be the best money maker in the game
  • Mastering Inscription - A step by step process where you will learn what herbs to buy, how to use herbalism the right way to farm specifically for Inscription, and how to hit skill level 375 in the shortest possible period of time
  • Printable Action Plan - Once you’ve read the report you can print out our action plan as a quick reference. Armed with all that information and a solid plan you can attack Inscription today knowing exactly what you need to do next to fill your bank with massive piles of gold.

This beauty is not just a profession leveling guide; It’s a personal tutorial that will teach you how to completely crush the Inscription market. With this guide by your side, it won’t matter how many other people on your server are Scribes – you’ll constantly be one step ahead of them.

You’ll learn:

  • Which herbs to really stock up on, it will surprise you (page 22)
  • Which Glyphs to sell for almost 300 gold the very first day (page 19)
  • A method of selling that will have people begging to send you their gold (page 15)
  • An herb farming location often overlooked for one of the hardest pigments to create (page 26)
  • When To Stop Right In The Middle Of Leveling To Run Straight To The AH And Sell (page 37)

I know there are lots of free Inscription guides out there. I’ve already seen most of them and you know what? They suck. They are outdated and poorly written, and NONE of them go beyond the basics. We have a saying here at the DYS office – “you can do the best you can, or you can be the best there is.” My Inscription Guide is the best there is…

Guaranteed
I’m so positive that you’ll absolutely LOVE this guide that I’m willing to guarantee it. Try my Inscription Guide out for a full 30 days. If you’re not happy with the guide, just email us here at DYS and I’ll happily give you a full refund.

Free Updates
Inscription is going to change significantly over the next few months. As those changes come, we’ll be updating the Inscription Guide regularly. You’ll receive each of these updates completely free of charge.

Instant Download
My Inscription Guide is a downloadable PDF file - you’ll have it on your hard drive in under 2 minutes.

Here’s the bottom line. This guide is your step-by-step battle plan for dominating your server when it comes to Inscription. Take a look at all the comments on this post from people who bought the guide and used it.

Mageblade wrote:

WOOT, bought the guide, logged in on patch day 4 hours after the server went live and was the first person on the server to hit 355. lvled in 3 1/2 hours and posted 1/2 on AH and sold other half in Org. I MADE 2,876g in 3 hours. THANK YOU!!!!

Go take a look at the gold sellers websites around the net - how much would 2,876 gold cost you? About $60. That doesn’t even take into account the hours of frustration you’ll save by knowing exactly how to level up Inscription - Mageblade started 4 hours after everyone else, and still beat them all to 355.

Even though my Inscription Guide will teach you how to earn thousands upon thousands of gold, we’re not charging an arm and a leg for it. In fact, the price is only $14. Remember, that price includes free updates, and your purchase is covered by our 30-day, 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Go read the reviews below this post - our customers LOVE our guides, and there’s a reason… they’re the best available.

Herb Prices Jump

Posted by Lawbringer in Auction House, Gold Building, World of Warcraft

Word Finally got around about Inscription it seems.  I was doing a few final preparations for completely Dominating the inscription market last night (this morning, whenever - I’m not getting nearly enough sleep) on my banker.

Moneybaggins was browsing through the herb market just like he has been for weeks looking to pick up another couple dozen stacks of herbs, but the market has already gone rock hard.  It may just be an anomaly, but that is highly unlikely considering the hubbub that’s been taking place in every single forum you can think of.

You can see in the screen shot above that prices have gone even higher already than I expected.  I predicted a 300% increase, but six pages of herbs are averaging well over 500% increase in the last 24 hours alone.  Who can say what’s going to happen after the patch goes live?

What does this mean for you?  While Gavin and I put the finishing touches on Inscription the only thing we can all do is really sit back and wait a few more days.  Unconfirmed sources on the PTR say that patch 3.0.2 will go live with Tuesday updates on the 14th, although it could be just next Tuesday on the 7th.  Frankly we are hoping for an extra week.

But I have a couple of tips for all of you in the meantime.  First, for those of you who have been savagely hoarding herbs for weeks, be sure to run scans with AADV every day.  This is a must.  (And don’t make me get on my soapbox AGAIN about that one :)  )  Next, return to the article we did about LilSparky’s workshop if you haven’t already and get familiar with the interface and using that one.

Personally, if you don’t plan on doing Inscription (which is a HUGE mistake) you might start to trickle herbs onto the market now a few 5 stacks at a time at ridiculous prices.  This will help inflate things a bit even before the patch goes in and demand goes nutsoid.

Save the vast majority of your herbs until Thursday if you can stand it, and don’t flood them all into the ah at the same time.  If you’ve got 200 stacks of herbs, put about 5 a day into the market now at something like 5 to 10 times more than you bought them for.  They probably wont sell yet, but it will cause the lift you’re looking for.  People are Lemmings for the most part, and they like to play follow the leader.

Wait at least 24 hours after the patch and then start popping the rest of your flowers on the AH no more than 20 stacks at a time.  Try to stay at about 95% of the AADV market value if you can.  This may mean wiping your data and starting fresh (although it hurts my teeth to say that).  It would be better to keep your historical data, however, and just do a little manual browsing to look at the market rates as they go up.

If you can average a 300% markup and sell out everything you’ve got it would turn 5,000 gold worth of herbs into 15,000 gold.  Plus, you should be able to make that run in about a week.  To date, I’ve bought and/or farmed roughly 550 full stacks of herbs of all the various levels.

But not a single leaf is going on the AH.  I got plans for those little piles of plants, and selling them isn’t one of them.  But if you’re just about feeding your herbs back into the market for a good profit that’s just fine.  It’s not the best way to go, but you WILL make a lot of gold that way.  I just thought I would let you all know that the herb rush is on in my main server, and I expect it’s that way on almost all the others.  If not, it will be very soon.

And don’t worry, we’ll tell you what to REALLY do with all that stuff very soon.  Until then, grab every herb that any noob is selling for a decent price and get ready to Dominate!

Making Gold Grow On Trees

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building, WotLK

News Flash!

Inscription is gold Making Machine

We’ve never seen anything like what inscription is about to do to the WoW marketplace.  Every single toon on every single realm is going to want glyphs.  They will want them the minute the patch goes live.  They will want them for every alt.  They will want the very best glyphs.  They will want minor glyphs.  They will want them, and they will want them so badly they will pay almost anything a high level scribe will charge.

We’ve been working with inscription for more than a month now.  When Blizz added the glyphs to the profession, we did some serious herb farming and started over from scratch in inscription so that we could begin working on a guide for leveling the profession.  What we found will shock you.

You know we’re not given to exaggeration.  Shock is one of those words thrown around pretty lightly these days, but in this case it may actually not be strong enough.  If you’ve ever had problems making gold, this is your shot.  If you know how to make decent gold and want to take the quantum leap to dragon size piles of it, this is your chance.  There simply is not enough hyperbole to describe just how big a money-maker this one is going to be, and it’s coming very soon.

Just to prove a point about this whole gold thing - I’m going to show you something.  Last Thursday (when we heard that inscription was going to go live in the next patch) I hopped on the Beta realm right away and got to work farming herbs like a wildman.  I actually started by copying a pre-made toon to the Beta.  The pre-mades are wicked.  I chose a level 80 druid so that I could use flight form to farm herbs.  This guy came with every piece of high end PvP gear (for all three specs) a flying mount, an epic land mount, every flight path and 5,000 gold to boot.  It was the perfect setup for running through this profession in record time.

Well, I spent about 1,000 of that 5,000 gold while I worked inscription through the first 100 skill points.  There were no herbs on the AH, so I had to farm every single one.  I learned a LOT about how to farm for inscription specifically, it’s very different from farming for alchemy.  As I leveled inscription, I made sure to make a variety of glyphs for each class when I was creating them for skill points.  Then I started selling them at the AH.

Now, every single toon in the Beta has the opportunity to do exactly what I did.  But they didn’t, so I was about the only dude with glyphs on the ah most of the time.  Other people have been working on their inscription for weeks and were way ahead of me.  It didn’t matter.  I just know more about how to work a market, and I beat them all silly.  I mean I crushed them, pwned them, Dominated.

When you really know how to work a market and not just sell stuff, it makes a big difference.  We’ve been telling you for weeks to save up all your herbs for sale - the prices are going to be insane for them when inscription comes out - that’s still true, but don’t you dare sell a single herb.  If you’ve never taken my advice, listen this one time, just this once.  Send all those herbs to a level 70 toon and get ready to make some real gold.  Big gold, huge gold, enormous/mountains/piles/heaps/avalanches of the stuff.

I started selling those glyphs I was making. They sold so fast I couldn’t believe it.  So I made some more, marked up the prices and they sold even faster.  I couldn’t keep up with the demand, not even close.  So I marked up my prices again, and still didn’t have an auction end.  In just four days.  Let me repeat that, just 4 days I made so much gold I couldn’t carry any more.

There are some rumors that float around that are basically nearly impossible to confirm.  There is supposed to be some sort of cap on how much gold you can carry on a single toon.  Some crazy number that only a few of us know about.  Well, I was opening up all those piles of gold in the beta and suddenly I couldn’t open them any more.  I tried logging out - no help.  Then I took a peek at my gold total, and there it was.

You feeling me now?  When I tell you how to make gold, you already know that I know what I’m talking about.  At least I hope you do.  I will grant you that this was in the beta and everyone had some gold to throw around, but to hit the gold cap in just 4 days?

When we post things at DYS we mean business (even if that business is just fun stuff like the motorcycles).  Lawbringer and the rest of our writers are good at what they do.  You simply will not find another site that has a team of people that can give you better information on every aspect of the game.

If you only got one tip like this a YEAR it could make all the difference in the world to the way you play the game.  Once a month and you could very well get a lot better.  But we post articles every few days and every single one of them has to reach a high standard.

You may not always agree with everything we say.  Every single article may not apply to what you like to do.  But when we say we are experts we can back it up.  The screenshot above is not a mock-up.  I will actually mail one person on the Murmur Beta realm 100,000 gold to prove it.  There is probably that much waiting for me in the mailbox anyway that I can’t even take out right now.

Now, I’m not saying you will every hit the gold cap on a live server, although I hear Lawbringer is making a serious run at it.  But if I can hit 215,000+ gold on the test server in less than a week - you might want to consider listening to me when I talk about - well anything.  It’s sort of like those old EF Hutton commercials.  When Gavin talks, you should listen.

We are going to keep on posting the tips, tools and information you need to completely Dominate the next patch, the WotLK expansion, and beyond.  In the next few days we have some really exciting tools for you - I just wanted you to understand when I say exciting - you should probably look at the word in a whole new light.

Stick with me, and take my tips as though they were worth 215,000 gold and I WILL help you learn to Dominate!

Stack Sizes at the AH

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building, World of Warcraft

One of the many ways to maximize your profits at the AH is carefully regulating your stack sizes.  Although it can be tempting to put everything up in maximum lots to save a little time, or to split everything into singles, you could be robbing yourself of some serious cash in the long run.  So I’m going to give you some pointers to use that will really help you know exactly what to do that should cover you in almost any situation, and really boost your gold-making.

There are three classes of things we’re dealing with here.  First are those items that simply stack into lots of 5, 10 or 20.  Next come items that convert, such as motes (from stacks of 10) and essences (from stacks of 3).  And finally are those oddball items that stack up to 250.

For the most part you will hardly ever want to post in maximum stack sizes for several reasons.  The biggest one is that there are still a lot of people who do not use Auctioneer.  I know it’s hard to believe, but because of this, there are a ton of folks playing this game that only see the final price and not the price per unit.  Smaller stacks are going to look cheaper than larger ones to them.  It’s just human nature to want to spend less (even if you are really spending more in the long run).

You can see per item prices in the WoW tooltip, (see posts by Ren and Trevor) but that doesn’t mean everybody will.

Don’t believe me?  Go to the grocery store and see how many things are being sold in smaller and smaller units in real life.  If multi-billion dollar companies use this little trick, then it’s safe to say it’s a good bet in WoW.  You can buy the ginormous bag of chips for 5 bucks, but people still buy gobs of the snack packs for $3.50 - even though the total weight of the the chips in the snack pack bags is less than 25% as much as is in the big bag.

Use this on things like cloth, especially wool.  If you split into stacks of 5, you can actually raise your price a touch over everyone else and still sell a ton of whatever it is you are selling.  People will see the 20 stacks of wool selling for 5g 50s (a price of 27s 50c each) and will often opt for your five stack at 1g 50s (a price of 30s each).  This works best when there are is a lot of price variation among the competition.  Without Auctioneer, it makes it very hard to tell what is really cheaper if the prices are all over the map.

Another area that this really comes in handy is on ore.  You also need to learn this now before WotLK when herbs go through the roof.  By this time you know that if you pay close attention to the AADV stats on metals, you can often make more money selling ore for prospecting than you can smelting the stuff and selling it that way.

Prospecting uses a LOT of ore.  Although most high end Jewelcrafters are not burning through the ore like they were at the beginning of the year, it is still a lucrative part of my weekly AH routine.  It’s not going to be any different with WotLK.

You see, Inscription has a skill called milling that is exactly like prospecting.  So far, it doesn’t seem that Inscription is going to use a lot of herbs directly, but it will be using even MORE herbs in the long run because of the milling process.  Milling uses five of any herb and turns it into a Pomace for the various Inscription recipes.  There are different Pomaces made from different level herbs, so herbs of all types will be in high demand, regardless of how rare they are, unlike alchemy which requires specific herbs.

We’ll do an article on Inscription when we know more.  Lawbringer is working on an Inscription guide, but since there are only about 10 recipes functioning now in the Beta, he hasn’t been able to test past about level 125.  But it is obvious from our initial look at Inscription that herbs are going to be a huge market.

We already told you to buy up all the herbs you can find of all levels.  Initial testing in inscription took us about 10 stacks of level 5 and 10 herbs just to get through the first few recipes.  So those stacks of peacebloom that go for next to nothing now will be worth well over 1g or more when WotLK goes live.  Expect even more profit increases from the higher level stuff.

Here’s how to capitalize on this with stack sizes. Since Milling requires 5 herbs, don’t post your lots in stacks of five, force them to buy more.  Since it’s going to take a LOT of herbs for the milling process, they need stacks of 20 and probably multiple stacks, but don’t give it to them that way.  Then as the power levelers pass you by, there will be stragglers that do only need five just to round out a skill point or two, and you can take advantage of both types of folks by splitting into stacks of 3 or 4.

Stacks of 4 requires them to buy at least 5 stacks from you.  Since milling takes 5, and only 5 will do, a stack of four is not enough.  8 is not enough, neither is 12, and 16 is still a mess.  The only way they can get a multiple of 5 for 4 milling runs is to buy 5 stacks of 4 for 20 herbs.  The other size, a 3 stack, also requires 5 purchases to get to a multiple of 5 at 15, but may be too frustrating for the dude who needs 200 herbs and doesn’t want to hit buyout 67 times.

This example of how to take advantage of stack sizes in this one area should open you mind to a lot of other areas at the AH you can do the exact same thing to really maximize you profits.  Just by splitting to smaller stacks, and raising your unit price a bit, you can still APPEAR to have lower prices, and yet price your stuff over everyone else.

Remember, people have the attention span of gnats.  They want to get in, get what they need and get out fast.  Post your stack items consistently in reasonable stacks and you can take advantage of their rush to get what they need and get on with whatever else it is they would rather be doing.

Next, there are those monster stack items.  I have found that weird stack sizes do best with these.  If you have 100 green power crystals, post a stack of 29, one of 41, and the last one at 24.  Just vary it up a lot, and make the unit price for each stack a little different.  If they need a whole bunch of them, they will be forced to buy your higher priced stack to go with the other two.

Finally, comes the ones I always harp on here at DYS - the enchanting mats.  These have the greatest stack separation potential for making even more gold above what you already do with DE.  Please tell me you buy things with the help of AADV for DE!  Don’t make me lecture you again on this.  OK, off my soapbox now - on with the show.

For enchanting mats as well as the mote conversions there are no real hard and fast rules, but I’ll give you the general things to look for.  With essences, the conversion rate is 3 to 1.  One greater splits to 3 lesser, 3 lesser to 1 greater.  MOST, but not all, of the time, you should be selling lessers.  This is one place you’ll have to check the conversion suggestion in the AADV tooltip to make sure.

When selling Greaters, split to a stack of 2.  Lessers go in a stack of 4.  We sell 2 greaters because not many recipes require an even number of greaters to create, and we don’t want to sell just one.  If they only need one, they have to buy two to get it from me.  As for the lessers, if they need greaters, they have to buy three sets of four to convert them all cleanly, and again, I always want them to buy more than they need.  If they only needed one greater and bought my 4 lessers to make it, they ended up having to buy one more lesser than they needed.

This also applies to motes.  I normally sell motes and hardly ever convert to primals.  This is because if I am selling primals I use a 2 stack (make them buy more than one), but since many primals are pretty steeply priced, it’s tough to buff your unit price on those since it’s going to look a lot more expensive than a single.  Remember, we want them to THINK they are getting a better price, and never KNOW they just got hammered.  For motes, use a stack of 6.  Again, a 6 stack requires 5 to convert cleanly to primals (5 stacks of 6 is 30 for 3 primals).

Finally, also apply the stack of 2 to any large shards.  There’s just no helping this one.  remember, make them buy more from you.  A few things we didn’t mention so far are dusts, which I will normally put in a stack of 5.  That sounds odd, since I’ve been preaching other oddball stack sizes and 5 seems like a nice round number.  This is because I did a survey of the different enchants, and very few enchants use a multiple of five, so the 5 stack maximizes over-purchases the vast majority of the time.

You can see, there are a LOT of little things you can do to boost your sales and gold potential at the AH, and we’re putting every single one of them in our gold guide.  But you’re going to have to wait for that one.  Until then, split your stacks right and Dominate the auction house on your server!

WotLK - Inscription

Posted by Lithanial in Auction House, General Tips

Wrath of the Lich King will be introducing a new profession to the game upon release that stands to have a very large impact upon the game economy.  There is currently little in the way of comprehensive information available about Inscription but what little we do know puts you in a position to exploit the changes that Inscription implementation will have on the game as a whole.

So what do we know about Inscription?

To begin with, we know Inscription is a crafting style profession that is fueled by the gathering profession herbalism.  All inscriptions seem to be created by a mixture of inks and parchments; parchment is bought from a vendor while inks are created either directly from raw herbs, or from a pommace.

A pommace is created by the process of milling herbs; this works in a similar fashion to a jewelcrafter’s prospecting ability but renders down stacks of 5 herbs rather than ore.

Once an ink is made an inscriber can create a variety of items with them, all of which have the potential for resale. The first items that are created by an inscriber are scrolls such as a scroll of intellect.  Previously these were only found randomly throughout the world to give yourself temporary buffs to your raw stats but will now also be created by an inscriber.  By utilizing scrolls, a player can ensure they remain fully buffed even when soloing.

The second important creation from an inscriber is the combination of Bleached Parchment and Treated Vellum. These two items can be utilized by enchanters to store enchants within.  With an enchant stored within, an enchanter can then place the item on the auction house for use by others to use on their own equipment without needing to directly trade with an enchanter.

Finally an Inscriber can create Glyphs.  Each character in the game will be given 6 Glyph slots of varying power.  A Glyph will act to change the properties of certain spells either cosmetically or through significant increases in power; as such Glyphs will be in demand from all high level players capable of utilizing them.

Minor Glyphs will largely only be cosmetic changes to add more character to spells or slightly increase usability without any real change in a spells’ power; effects will include increasing the duration of buffs or changing of a spells’ graphics.

Lesser Glyphs provide small game play changes to a spell by reducing its costs or providing minor power boosts without massive changes to the ability; examples would be reducing the rage cost of debuffs or increasing the chance of certain attacks hitting.

Greater Glyphs will significantly improve the way in which an ability works and will be the most sought after glyphs.  An inscriber will get an additional Greater Glyph slot compared to other players as a profession advantage.  Examples of Greater Glyph effects will be to improve your spell damage or add secondary effects such as snares or knockback resistance to them.

So, how can you exploit this profession to the fullest?  The answer is simple; when inscription is implemented the demand for herbs is going to skyrocket.  Not only will people need low level herbs to raise their skill level in inscription, but in the long term, Inscription demand for herbs will continue to be high as other players demand Scrolls and Glyphs.

Those who are prepared will be able to stock up on a large variety of herbs and sell them for a fortune on release of the expansion; you won’t even need to be an herbalist to benefit.  Simply scour the auction house to build up a stockpile and seek to dominate the market.

(Keep in mind that the last time Lithanial gave a gold-making tip Lawbringer tested the information on several servers - and made more than 15,000 gold on one toon in less than two weeks.  You have several months before the xpac comes out, if I were you I would follow Lithanial’s advice and buy every herb you can get your hands on for the next couple of months.  The release of the expansion will mean massive profits as demand rises through the roof if you can control the supply of herbs of all levels to the ah!)

Arcane Tomes - They Aint What They Used To Be

Posted by Raknathal in Auction House, Gold Building

(This is the first post by our contest winner Marco, to be known henceforth as Raknathal! I think you’ll see why Raknathal was our winner. Enjoy, you can look forward to posts by Raknathal about four times each week. Happy Reading!)

Before patch 2.4.0, the arcane tome was the jewel of the Scryers. Now, it’s only a dusty old book sitting on the shelves of the Auction House. Patch 2.4.0, unleashed the Isle of Quel’Danas along with Kael’thas’ private army, the Dawnblade, creating a massive surplus of Arcane Tomes to be had. Also, to fight Kael’thas, Shattrath City has dispatched the Shattered Sun Offensive, which rewards players who are also exalted with the Aldor or the Scryers. An unforeseen opportunity arises out of these events.

What exactly happened to the Arcane Tomes and Fel Armaments? The new private army of Kael’thas, the Dawnblade, drops Arcane tomes like any other Blood Elf mob in the world, but also at greater rates. Due to the increased chance of getting an Arcane Tome and the increased activity in the Isle of Quel’Danas (Daily Quests Galore), a massive surplus of Arcane tomes has been pouring in. Due to decreased activity in other areas, Fel Armaments have become scarce, but the demand has stayed the same. Prices for Fel armaments have shot upwards, and Arcane Tomes have plummeted as a result.

After conducting some research on four realms, Medivh (Normal), Warsong (PVP), Thorium Brotherhood (RP), and Emerald Dream (RPPVP) I found conclusive information on the prices of Arcane Tomes and Fel Armaments. First, a fact from all the servers, Arcane Tomes had numerous pages of the item on sale. Fel Armaments had two or less.

On the Normal server that I researched, the average price for Alliance and Horde for an Arcane Tome was 15 gold 33 silver whereas for Fel Armaments, the average price was 24 gold 85 silver. The difference is 9 gold 52 silver.

On the PVP server, the average price for an Arcane Tome was 11 gold 37 silver and 17 gold 14 silver for a Fel Armament. That is a 5 gold 77 silver difference.

As for the RP server - I don’t know if it’s just this realm, but the numbers are extreme. The average price for an Arcane Tome was 14 gold 85 silver and for Fel Armaments it was 41 gold 27 silver! That’s a 26 gold 42 silver difference!

On the RPPVP realm, the average price for an Arcane Tome was 16 gold 16 silver and 23 gold 37 silver for Fel Armaments. The overall average price for Alliance is 11 gold 31 silver for Arcane Tomes and 23 gold 59 silver for Fel Armaments. And For the Horde (no pun intended) 17 gold 55 silver for Arcane Tomes, and 29 gold 78 silver for Fel Armaments.

So, what’s the point? Farm Fel Armaments; you can undercut the price and still make a lot of gold off the ridiculous prices. Fel Armaments is where the money is at, also it’s just good to have them because now if you want them, you can’t go to the Auction House and get a good deal like you normally would.

Where? As they say in the famous Youtube movie, Ni Hao, “Go farm some in Shadowmoon Valley.”

Easy Money

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building

There are a lot of ways to turn an easy profit and make decent gold in WoW. We live in an information age, and that also applies to WoW. What you know can be very valuable. We apply this to limited supply recipes all the time.

Limited supply recipes are those recipes you can only get from certain vendors and they usually only carry one at a time. Once you buy the recipe, you have to wait for the thing to respawn in their inventory before you can buy another one. The spawn timers for limited supply items ranges from 5 minutes to more than 24 hours. One of our favorite limited supply recipes is one for engineers – the Mithril Mechanical Dragonling.

The MMD recipe can be purchased from Ruppo Zipcoil in the Hinterlands. That means you need to be about level 50 before you can survive the run to his shop. He’s a little tricky to find, but we’re going to show you exactly where he is. The MMD recipe also has a short timer. Most of the time this recipe will respawn within 15-25 minutes. So when you are running around doing the hinterlands grind, it’s a pretty easy thing to grab 5-10 of these. For alliance, he’s an easier run from the FP, so you might want to drop by the Hinterlands from time to time if you happen to be flying nearby to plaguelands and chillwind point.

The recipe sells for a mere 40 silver and can fetch as much as 4-10 gold on most servers. Talk about markup! Check out the map below to see how to find this dude and turn some silver into gold double quick.

The yellow circle indicates the location of the little hut where Ruppo hangs out. For alliance, follow the blue path from Aerie Peak, Horde toons run the Red path from Revantusk Village. What you are looking for is a big rock just northeast of Quel’Danil Lodge.

Facing north from the rock take a slight turn to the right and follow a narrow path up the hill.  When you get to a dead-end, just hook a sharp left, and you’ll be right on top of the hut.  When you see the gears sticking up out of the ground, you’re there.

Once inside talk to Ruppo and open a buy screen from him and turn to page 2 - you can see the plans in the top left.

That’s all there is to it. Go mess around farming some Mithril or questing for a bit and come grab another one. You should be able to pick up enough of these schematics to make a good 8-40 gold in a little over and hour and a half. Not bad for spending a few silver. This recipe tends to sell pretty quickly as well since it is not only limited supply but in a really out of the way place that only level 50+ toons can reach. That makes it pretty rare - only those in the know - like you - sell this one.

The Sheep Are Getting Away

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building

One of the biggest secret money-makers in WoW is wool. It’s weird that everyone seems to know that wool always costs about as much or more than silk, everyone needs it to level up first aid, but no one seems to know why. Well you’re about to find out, and how to cash in as a low level toon or even farm a bit from time to time on your main.

Wool is expensive because it’s one of the harder cloths to get in the whole game. It’s actually surprising it doesn’t sell for more than Runecloth, since it actually drops a lot less often. To explain why, let’s look at the levels cloth drops from mobs.

wool drop rates world of warcraft

Analyzing the chart shows us why wool is so hard to get. Although all cloths drop for about 20 levels, take a look at the 30% drop rates. When we look at the levels of mobs that drop the individual cloth at a 30% chance, we can see that you only have at least a 30% chance to get wool for a mere 5 levels. Another interesting fact is that for the two highest level cloths Runecloth and Netherweave, about 90% of the mobs that drop these cloths do so at a 30% or higher rate. This means it’s much easier to collect Runecloth than it is to get wool.

Wool is even more difficult to farm for Horde characters than Alliance since the best drop rates are in the Deadmines and the Stockades. Since you would have a really hard time getting into the stockades instance in the middle of Stormwind, which leaves Horde toons with only one really good farming run and that in contested territory.

You may get your hands on a ton of silk, and it sells well, but it is just as profitable to run for wool. The best spot is definitely the Deadmines. But you can also grind through the Foulweald Furbolgs in Ashenvale forest. The Furbolgs are easy to get to for both Horde and Alliance and drop enough wool to get about 5 stacks an hour if you can kill them fast enough.

Also watch the wool prices on the AH. If someone is selling too low, be sure to scoop it up and repost it for sale at high market value.
