Don’t party up on kill quests. If you need to kill 15 raptors for a quest, and you solo them, you’ll get XP for killing all 15 raptors, plus the quest reward XP.

If you party with one other person, you’ll kill the raptors faster, but you’ll only get approximately half the XP.

The only time you should party up is on a slow spawning unique mob where other people are waiting to kill it (The Kolkar leaders in the Barrens, for example.)

Of course, if you have friends that you play with, don’t forsake them… Just don’t fall into the trap of letting other people leech off your efforts.

On the flip side, DO party up on farming quests (for example, collect 10 linen bandannas from the guys in Goldshire) - you’ll end up having to kill twice as many mobs in order for two people to get all of the needed items, which will cancel out the XP loss from grouping.

I’ve been getting a ton of emails from you guys! Thank you, and keep them coming! I won’t have a chance to reply to all of them
but whatever you ask for, I’ll try to get into these emails.

By far the most common question I’m being asked is “Where do I grind?”

For example:

“I’m a level 38 gnome mage - where should I grind?”

or

“I’m a level 42 Tauren druid - where should I grind?”

Let me start off by saying I am NOT a fan of grinding, and I avoid it whenever possible. I mean, come on - it’s BORING!

There is no reason to have to grind XP in order to level. You can do it entirely with quests. Remember, many quests are like “Kill 12 somethings” or “Collect 10 something off of some mob”

In other words, grinding is already built right into the quest system (thanks Blizz!)

But, I’m a firm believer in giving you what you want, so over the next couple days, I’ll post some of my best grinding tips.

Are you farming Silithus yet? Head on out there with your lvl 58-60 character, and farm the Twilight mobs. They drop plenty of Twilight Armor (which is used for quests) which can sell for 1-5g per piece (it’s currently averaging 2.5 gold per piece on my server.)

Also, check the price of Twilight Texts on your server - since they are dropped in the same place, you may be able to make some decent bank with them as well.

Also, since they are humanoid mobs, you’ll be getting runecloth, money, and green and blue drops… good stuff!

Did you know you can buff your alts with your main character?

Say you’ve got a mid-level priest, or druid, or mage… something that can cast buffs (the “buffer”). And let’s say you’ve got a low level rogue or hunter alt that you want to give a little help to (the “buffee”)…

Run your buffer and your buffee to the exact same location. Then log into your buffee, and exit the game with alt-F4. This Windows command will terminate your World of Warcraft client without sending a “logging out” message to the server, so your buffee character will remain logged in for another 30 seconds or so.

Then, log in with your buffer character - behold, your alt is right there! Now buff away, and log out.

Log back into your alt (buffee), and you’ve got your buffs…

Is this an exploit? Will it get you banned? Highly doubtful. If anything, you may just get a warning. But I’ve been doing this for a *long* time now, and no one has ever had a problem with it…

If you already have some gold to use as a seed investment, buy out all the items of a particular type from the auction house, and then relist them at higher prices.

The best items to corner the market with are trade supplies. Find something in high demand (you can use Auctioneer for this) and buy all of them that are available. Then, relist them a few at a time (if you relist too many at once, you’ll be competing with yourself, and you’ll clue everyone else in to what you are doing).

I routinely do this with illusion dust, small brilliant shards, large glimmering shards, and arcane crystals.

The only drawback to this method is that, in order to be as effective as possible, you need to hang out at the auction house to buy out anyone that tries to come in and undercut you.

However, if you’re starting with a large enough bankroll, you can easily make 30 gold per hour doing nothing.

If you’re going to be playing the auction house, timing is everything. Buy items on weekdays (during the day, if possible) and sell them on the weekends. Prices tend to go down during the week (when there are fewer people playing, and therefore less demand), and rise over the weekend (when most people play.)

Many players pride themselves in having items that no one else has. This emotional attachment to their “stuff” is something that extends to pets as well!

As alliance, you’ll find that you can sell kittens (obtained from the cat lady in Goldshire) to horde players for 2-4 gold each on the neutral auction houses.

As horde, you can buy snakes from the snake vendor in Orgrimmar and sell them to alliance players for the same amount.

When you find these pets for sale at neutral auction houses, buy them and resell them on your main faction auction house. You’ll be able to sell them for a lot more there.

If you’re lucky enough to have two accounts, or if you have a “friend” in the opposite faction, you can work together by feeding each other pets through the neutral auction house and reselling them on the faction auction house.

Don’t bother with battlegrounds. If your goal is to become an awesome PvPer, hold off on battlegrounds until level 59. Doing
battlegrounds before level 59 will just slow you down.

If your goal is to earn a high PvP rank, do the majority of your honor grinding at level 59, not 60. Since level 60s have their own battlegrounds, you’ll be a brand new 60 with inferior gear playing against other 60s who potentially have full dungeon gear sets from Molten Core, BWL, or higher.

It’s true that gear does not matter much before level 50 or so, but at level 60, gear is EVERYTHING. Chances are, you’re simply
not going to be able to compete in level 60 battlegrounds when you first get to 60, so try to grind as much honor as possible
before then.

I alluded to this yesterday, but I’ve gotten some questions about this since then, so I wanted to clear this up.

Don’t even bother going to the auction house until you’re level 60. Period.

The auction house can be highly addictive, and you’ll more likely than not end up spending countless hours there every time you gain a level looking for better gear.

If you want the absolute fastest /played time possible (which is the exact count of days, hours, minutes, and seconds you’ve played a character), just make a mule character for yourself to handle all of your auction house work.

Mail items back and forth between your “main” and your “mule” to minimize your /played time to level 60.

Today, I’m going to share with you some overall tips and tricks. I don’t know what your exact situation is (whether you’re looking for ways to level faster or whether you’re trying to build up a huge stash of cash.)

First of all, let me put it to rest once and for all: questing will level you much faster than just grinding, as long as you quest the right way (and let’s face it, questing is SO much more enjoyable than grinding anyways!)

Don’t just do one quest and then go turn it in for the quest reward or money. Your goal is to go out and do 3,4, 5 or more quests all in one shot (I’ll be giving you some exact questing routes in later emails.)

Inventory management is key! DON’T go back to town when your bags are full - you’ll waste precious time traveling back and forth. Simply get rid of low value vendor trash to make room for more valuable (and stackable!) items.

Always favor stackable vendor trash over non-stackable trash if you’re going to be working on the same mobs for awhile. For example, at level 6-10 (when you don’t have a lot of bag space) [item]dry scorpid eye[/item]s in Durotar sell for 95 copper each, and you can fit 5 in one stack. All of the grey armor pieces you pick up in Durotar can’t be stacked, and only sell for 10-30 copper each. Why take up a valuable bag slot with a 20 copper [item]Worn Leather Pants[/item]?

Loot everything until your bags are full, and then systematically destroy items which are less valuable when you need more space.

If you’re just starting a new character, and don’t know what class to choose, go with a Hunter. Of all the classes, they have the absolute least amount of down time (time spent in-between killing and questing) and pack quite a punch.

If I’m starting on a brand new server, I’ll make a hunter first, level him up very quickly to 20 (which can be done in about 12 hours of play time), and take Tailoring. I can then feed my “real” character on that server with bags and cash, allowing me to level up my “real” character as fast as possible.

Well, that’s it for today - I’ll be back tomorrow with a lot more tips for you. As I said, if you start using my techniques, you’ll see for yourself how much faster you level, and how much more gold you start having.
