Jewelcrafting is not our favorite profession at Dominate Your Server, but it can make a healthy profit at the higher levels. Gems are so hard to come by that this will be a difficult and expensive profession to level. You’re almost going to have to combine this with mining or you’ll spend a lot more on this profession than it will ever be worth. But if you simply must train this sucker all the way to 375 - here’s how to do it as fast (and with as little impact on your gold) as possible.
Because you will not always get a skill point for every one of these you make, we’ve given you the estimated number of mats needed in the bullet points.
1 - 30: Delicate Copper Wire x 30. (Mats required: 2 Copper Bar)
31 - 50: Malachite Pendant x 20. (Mats required: 1 Malachite, 1 Delicate Copper Wire)
51 - 80: Bronze Setting x 40. (Mats required: 1 Bronze Bar)
81 - 125: Ring of Silver Might x 60. Mats (2 Silver Bar)
126 - 145: Ring of Twilight Shadows x 35. (Mats required: 2 Shadowgem, 2 Bronze Bar)
146 - 150: Golden Dragon Ring x 5. (Mats required:1 Jade, 2 Gold Bar, 2 Delicate Copper Wire)
151 - 195: Mithril Filigree x 70. (Mats required: 2 Mithril Bar)
(you’ll hit 195 prior to making all 70, but you’ll need all 70 for the next step)
196 - 215: Engraved Truesilver Ring x 35. (Mats required: 1 Truesilver Bar, 2 Mithril Filligree)
216 - 225: Aquamarine Signet x 10. (Mats required: 3 Aquamarine, 4 Flask of Mojo)
226 - 255: Thorium Setting x 60. Mats (3 Thorium Bar)
256 - 275: Ruby Pendant of Fire x 35. Mats (1 Star Ruby, 1 Thorium Setting)
276 - 280: Simple Opal Ring x 5. Mats (2 Large Opal, 1 Thorium Setting, 2 Thorium Bar)
281 - 290: Glowing Thorium Band x 10. Mats (2 Azerothian Diamond, 1 Thorium Setting, 1 Thorium Bar)
291 - 300: Emerald Lion Ring x 10. Mats (2 Huge Emerald, 1 Thorium Setting, 1 Thorium Bar)
Past 300 it gets a lot more complicated to recommend a particular recipe since there are so many different gems you can cut. So what we are going to do is give you a list of possibilities for each range and you can make them according to the gems you are mining. Unless otherwise given, the mats for all cut gems are 1 of the gem type.
301 - 305: Cut Gems x 10 - 15.
306 - 310: Cut Gems x 10 - 15.
310 - 315: Fel Iron Blood Ring x 5. (Mats required: 1 Fel Iron Bar, 2 Blood Garnet)
316 - 320: Cut Gems x 10 - 15.
321 - 325: Azure Moonstone Ring x 5. (Mats required: 1 Fel Iron Bar, 2 Azure Moonstone, 1 Deep Peridot)
326 - 335: Cut Gems and/or Mercurial Adamantite x 15 - 20.
Since you will need the Mercurial Adamantite for the next step, you might as well make at least 15 of them. Cut gems for the rest of the skill points you need to hit 335.
336 - 350: Heavy Adamantite Ring = 15. Mats (1 Adamantite Bar, 1 Mercurial Adamantite)
351 - 355: Cut Gems x 10 - 15.
From 355 on you’re going to have to find some recipes either through drops, from the AuctionHouse, or from earning Outland Reputation with various factions. The most common are:
356 - 360: Living Ruby Pendants/Thick Felsteel Necklaces x 5
361 - 365:
366 - 370: Embrace of the Dawn x 5. Mats (2 Eternium Bar, 4 Mercurial Adamantite, 2 Golden Draenite)
371 - 375: Figurines x 5
Alternately from 365 - 375, if you are running Karazhan, you will find plenty of Alchemist Transmuting Diamonds. You can use this method to finish up, but you will have to be raiding quite a lot.
There are a lot more Jewelcrafting recipes, but they are very hard to find. Check out Thottbot’s Jewelcrafting page for a complete list, and then go Dominate!

Hunters can be very picky about the pets they choose. If you’ve gotten your hands on our hunters guide we give you a full run-down of the best and not-so-good choices when it comes to actual pet abilities. Now some people may very well like pets that are not as effective statistically, and that’s fine. You should use what you like, but when you look at the numbers, there are simply some pets which really shine in certain areas.
Most hunters will use a cat. Cats are one of only two pets which get a 10% bonus to damage. Cats are also easy to feed and learn a most of the best pet skills. You can’t really go wrong with a cat, especially if you are a Beast Mastery specialization hunter. A cat will do more damage than any other pet you can have - except one.
We want to put up for your consideration the Ravager. Before the Burning Crusade expansion, cats ruled DPS, but now they have a serious rival. Ravagers look cool and have the potential to do more damage than cats. Possibly the only drawback to a Ravager instead of a cat is that they don’t get the prowl skill, but that may not be a big deal to you - especially on a PVE server.
Why are Ravagers at the top of the DPS pile? They get to use the really wicked ability Gore. Gore is an instant cast ability that uses 15 focus, and works a lot like claw (which we prefer over bite - check out our hunter guide for all the details). Even though Gore does similar base damage to claw, it has a 50% chance to do DOUBLE damage. When you average that out, it means that Gore will do 125 damage in the same amount of time as claw will do 100. When you stack the 50% chance at double damage with beast mastery hunter skills like frenzy for the critical hit bonuses, it can get seriously high.
Ravagers have a little more armor than cats, but lower health. They only eat meat and raw meat, and can learn Bite, cower, Growl, Dash, and Gore. Gore is a great skill only used by boars and ravagers. Unfortunately, for Horde players, a ravager can be a real challenge to tame before level 62 especially on PVP servers. The other problem with gore is that there are no known mobs from which to learn gore 5 or 6. So you’re stuck with Gore 4 until you get to blasted lands at level 48. Also Gore 3 is only learned from the named mob Bellygrub in Redridge Mountains; and he can be a load to handle at level 24. Overall, gore is the best offensive pet skill to have, but for horde characters, you might not want to consider a ravager until you get to outlands. Even for alliance, for 20-40 levels, your main pet attack skill is going to be way off the pace. Boosting stamina through pet training is also more expensive as far as training points than boosting armor. So we normally give pets with more stamina a better score than pets with higher armor stats.
All of that being said - it could be argued that ravagers have the ability to deal more damage than any other pet in the game. If you can be a little patient and wait for one until outlands, you might consider one if you go Beast Master. To save focus and use the really wicked DPS skill, gore, teach this guy Gore, Growl and Dash. Gore is instant cast with no cooldown, so if he gets a few double damage hits in a row, it can really be a killer. We’re not sure if giving up prowl is worth the added dps and extra points spent on stamina, but on PVE servers it may be a winner.

A trade mule is an extra character whose sole purpose in life is to craft things for your other characters.
For example, if your main character is a leatherworker/skinner, and you’re looking for a way to increase your profit margins on Toughened Leather Gloves, it would make sense to create a trade mule who has herbalism and alchemy as his professions.
With two characters working side-by-side, you can get all of your Elixirs of Defense for free, and greatly improve your profit margin on Toughened Leather Gloves.
In fact, you don’t even have to level your trade mule above level ten in order to get your alchemy skill high enough to make Elixir of Defense.

Don’t disregard low level patterns. Take for example [item]Toughened Leather Gloves[/item]. These Rare (blue) level 22 gloves sell really well on most servers.
The materials for these gloves are 4 medium leather, 2 cured medium hide, 2 spider silk, and 2 Elixir of Defense.
The leather and the hide will come very easy for you if you are also a skinner (as most leather workers are), the spider silk drops off spiders level 15-32. The Elixir of Defense is available from alchemist friends or guildmates, or off the Auction House.
Depending on your server, these gloves will fetch 2 - 10 gold apeice, and your materials costs should be about half that.
If you take the time to actually gather as much of the materials yourself instead of paying for them on the auction house, then you will be able to pocket a nice profit for a little time investment.
This is another occasion where the Auctioneer add-on really shines. Unless you’re in-game checking the auction house all the time, you may not know what crafted items are selling really well on your server. In fact, [item]Toughened Leather Gloves[/item] may not sell well at all on your server - Auctioneer will help you determine this, and help you find other crafted items to focus on instead.
Now, good business dictates that you do whatever you can to lower your expenses, and as a result, your profit margin will go up.
In this example, our profits will be limited by the cost of Elixir of Defense. Since a leatherworker/skinner cannot make them, and they are not available anywhere except through the auction house or from other players, you’re at the mercy of others if you wish to craft this item (I’ve seen a few servers where the cost of a single Elixir of Defense is higher than what Toughened Leather Gloves go for!)
How can we get around this limitation? With a Trade Mule (more on this tomorrow!)

This week I’m going to talk to you about using Trade Skills to fatten your virtual coin purse.
As you know from my previous emails, I’m not a big fan of doing trade skills before level 60, because it slows down your leveling time.
Remember that this is coming from a guy who wants to hit 60 with a character as fast as possible. If hitting 60 as fast as humanly possible is not your goal, then by all means go right ahead and work on the trade skills and professions of your choice.
However, I want to give you some tricks to make sure that you actually MAKE money from your trade skills, instead of losing
money.

I’ve been doing a lot of farming lately. To be honest with you, I’ve never had a need to farm gold before level 50 or so, but lots of you have been asking for farming spots for lower levels.
So, my team and I have rolled some new lowbie toons and we’re scouring Azeroth for some great low-level gold farming spots.
Stay tuned for the results of this - we’re actively seeking out the best places, and I’ll report them to you as we find them.
For you higher level guys, today I’m going to discuss farming the Scarlet Monastery.
Lots of people farm SM, but we wanted to know is it worth it?
We ran a level 60 Mortal Strike warrior, with mostly Valor armor (this is the first dungeon set of armor that you get from places
like Scholomance, Stratholme, and Blackrock Spire.
His weapon was nothing particularly great: the [item]Obsidian Edged Blade[/item] from Molten Core.
In other words, this would be a standard level 60 character that has done some end game stuff, but not a fully decked out toon. This is important for you to know so that you can determine whether you’ll be able to farm the SM instances faster or slower than our test character.
The results below are based on a few rules:
1. ALL blues and greens were VENDORED. Nothing was placed on the auction house.
2. All cloth was made into bandages and then vendored.
3. Repair costs were removed from the total profit .
4. We ran each instance in SM 4 times, and what you see below are the averages.
5. Time shown was the time to kill every mob in the instance, and then any respawns on the way back out.
SM Graveyard:
Avg time to complete: 20 minutes
Total Profit: 6g 34s 51c
Profit per minute: 31s 73c
Profit per hour: 19g 3s 81c
SM Library:
Avg time to complete: 22 minutes
Total Profit: 7g 99s 43c
Profit per minute: 36s 33c
Profit per hour: 21g 79s 80c
SM Armory:
Avg time to complete: 31 minutes
Total Profit: 8g 54s 75c
Profit per minute: 27s 57c
Profit per hour: 16g 54s 20c
SM Cathedral:
Avg time to complete: 37 minutes
Total Profit: 10g 91s 02c
Profit per minute: 29s 49c
Profit per hour: 17g 69s 40c
Now you have some hard data to use during your farming sessions.
What can you do to improve these numbers? I have two suggestions for you.
First, because we did not put anything on the auction house, you would probably double these numbers if you auctioned the greens and blues that dropped for you. Use auctioneer to get the proper price, and rake in the extra gold.
Second, if you don’t want to pay the auction house deposits or you don’t want to risk your greens and blues not selling, pick up enchanting as one of your tradeskills and disenchant all the greens and blues that drop for you. You don’t have to pay deposits at the AH for selling enchanting materials, they are almost always in high demand, and since you can’t auction the Bind on Pickup items you get in these instances, you’ll almost certainly make more profit selling the disenchanted materials on the auction house than you’d get for vendoring the item.
Finally, don’t think that you have to be level 60 to farm SM. The mobs are around level 35, and although they are elite, they are not particularly tough.
Almost any character level 50 or higher should be able to clear out SM solo (although it will take longer that it would with a level 60 character.)
And don’t overlook the possibility of duoing SM with a friend. We were able to clear out SM with a 45 warrior and a 41 Shaman with no problems at all.

At higher levels, I really like grinding elite dragonkin. There are red ones in the wetlands, and blue ones in Winterspring. These guys drop up to 26 silver each, plus other loot. Note that the black ones in Dustwallow Marsh are no longer elite, nor are
the ones in Swamp of Sorrows.

If you decide to grind, whether for XP or for money, try to grind humanoids. Humanoids drop money, cloth, food, water, and green and grey items. Other mob types typically drop much less value per kill. So, even if you are grinding for XP, you’ll get much more cash along the way.
Also, now that the 40-45 dragonkin in the game are no longer elite (Swamp of Sorrows and Dustwallow Marsh), I’m including them in my grinding recommendations.
They drop around 3-5 silver each, but they also drop plenty of greens and blues (during a quick 20 minute grind on the ones in Swamp of Sorrows, I got 3 greens and a blue.)

So what do you do if you’re just not finding enough quests, or if questing just isn’t getting you XP fast enough?
In these cases, I like to double up on grind quests. For example, if you need to kill 12 Slobbering Maniacs to complete your quest, kill 24 instead.
If you need to collect 10 leather bandanas, kill 10 more mobs after getting enough bandanas to complete the quest.
In other words, simply incorporate grinding into your questing, and it’ll go by much faster and will be much less boring.
A small amount of extra kills beyond what is required for your quest, done many times on the way to level 70, will really add up.
