If you’re making less money in the AH than you’re looting off mobs, you must be the worst seller in WoW history.

I make dozens of times over more money in AH than loot/vendor trash on every character I play.

Having recently levelled a warrior to 80 exactly how you describe here; i’m going to disagree that it’s faster. He was my 5th toon to max level, and darned if the /played time on that toon wasn’t almost exactly the same as the toon I levelled before him, almost entirely solo the whole time. I think the error here is thinking that you’re always going to have a good group with people you can rely on to be competent, which is not remotely guaranteed, and extends the time in instances exponentially.

As far as gold goes, I don’t see how leveling in instances makes you more gold than soloing. Yes, mobs drop more money, but the vast majority of gold made outside the AH (because the AH doesn’t give xp!) is done from questing, and a tiny minority of quests can be done inside instances. That’s aside from the incidental stuff you pick up while questing that can be sold, which vastly out-moneys the few blue BoEs you get to /roll on in instances.

Lastly, leveling in instances teaches you bad habits just as much as leveling solo does, particularly when it comes to CC. Unless you are leveling with guildies and using vent, you will never, at any level, use CC while leveling. It is inevitably pointless, because someone will always break it with a thunderclap or a blizzard or an explosive shot. CC is a waste of time in instances. At least while levelling, you may find a use for a Frost Trap or a Repentance when you have control over whether or not it gets broken.

I’m not going to call anything in this article bad advice, but it is biased advice, and should be taken with a heavy grain of salt.

I lvled a pally from lvl 1 to 70 as prot with no clue on gear or anything when I first started. Went ret for a few lvl on my way to 80 but respect back to prot to tank instances. The thing even though I have ret gear, my dps is sub par compared to people who are mostly dps. I have told guildies before that I can tank any thing on my pally and heal anything on my shammy, but I cant dps hardly at all on either one. So right now that is my nitch; tanking and healing. Good thing I like doing both of them. Good write up guys
