Assassination Rogue – WoW Rogue Best DPS Builds

Capable of sneaking up on to their victims and dealing massive amounts of damage in a very short time, a well geared and played Rogue can compete with the best of the DPS classes. Today we will talk about the highest damage output build for a Mutilate (assassination) rogue using the best in slot gear from prior to patch 3.3. Disclaimer: This is a build from patch 3.22, in 3.3 with the new rupture-less cycle this is subject to change. Ok, seeing as this is 3.3 and all this spec is slightly dated, however it is still more than capable of pumping out some completely dominating dps.

The Build:
Assassination Rogue Build
Glyphs
Major
- Hunger For Blood
- Rupture (the build shows tricks of the trade glyph – your choice)
- Mutilate
Minor
- Your choice in the minor glyph category; whatever floats your boat baby.
Priorities:
Make sure hunger for blood doesn’t drop off and Slice and dice is maintained by envenom. Poisons: main-hand Instant Poison, Offhand Deadly Poison.
The rotation:
1. Garrote
2. Start Hunger for blood
3. Start Slice and Dice
4. Mutilate to 4 or 5 combo points
5. Envenom
6. Mutilate to 4 or 5 combo points
7. Rupture
8 Go to step 4
Being that this example is for a target that’s not moving, ie your not chasing it around or moving constantly to avoid those nasty void zones, etc. You simply sneak up behind your target, Garrote for the initial bleed and first Combo point, start up Hunger for blood and slice and dice. After that its Mutilate to 4 or 5 combo points (Depending on how much time is left on your slice and dice you may want to envenom before rupture in order to get a full 20 sec duration), Rupture, Mutilate some more, Envenom which also conveniently refreshes your slice and dice, and back to Mutilate. Be sure to refresh Hunger for Blood before it drops off, and don’t let rupture drop off. In a Raid scenario where you have multiple classes with bleeds on the target you may opt to skip garrote. Mutilate for some quick combo points, start up slice and dice, and Hunger for blood, then jump right into the rotation.
With the best in slot gear the dps for this build can turn out a whopping 10,204 avg dps, or a theoretical maximum dps of 11,052! Take that mages.

Even with the changes to rupture being able to crit, envenom is always the superior finisher to use because of the envenom debuff i.e the increased chance to apply instant and deadly poison. This is the single strongest part of the mutilate spec. Throwing rupture and lowering your envenom debuff uptime will lower your dps. Please give accurate information before you post, there are a lot of people who probably come here looking for advice, and honestly what you’re giving them is terrible.
While this holds true for rogues that are at ICC level gear, there are still plenty of rogues out there that haven’t obtained all their T10 and equivalent, at which point including rupture in your rotation can still net more DPS than straight envenom. Still, though, both rotations should be presented. With respect to the gear presented, however, I am under the impression that a ruptureless rotation would net more DPS

I wrote this article months ago and didn’t even realize it was going to be published until i got the emails from all the responses. I was intending to to update it, but its here now.
In any case the current rotation goes more like.
1. Garrote
2. Start Hunger for blood
3. Start Slice and Dice
4. Mutilate to 4 or 5 combo points
5. Envenom
6. Go to step 4
Hopefully you’ve got another source of bleeds for your hunger for blood if not you will have to rupture on occasion to maintain it.

Feral druids already love us Arms warriors for trauma, now Assassination rogues can love us for Deep Wounds.

Nice article Mogor, any thoughts on how Goblins will do as Rogues? From what I have read so far, we should all expect a mass invasion of Goblin Rogue/engineers.

From what I’ve read so far it’s nothing game breaking dps wise, but it will probably be pretty fun in pvp. It’s about time Horde finally get a pesky Gnome sized target for the Alliance to deal with. =)

Ruptureless?This means no rupture AT ALL. To do this, you would need a druid or warrior to have a bleed on the target, and that may or may not be there every time you go raiding. You should use rupture at least once a minute to get Hunger for Blood back up to max time.
1.Garrote
2. Hunger for blood
3. Mut to 4-5 cp
4. Slice n Dice
5. Mut to 4-5 cp
6. Envenom OR rupture, depending on time for Hunger for blood.

Assa spec rules for raid
i was doing Nice dps before the new 4.0 patch like 9-10k average raid dps.. After patch i gemmed agi and haste instead of full ap and reforged the crit ón my gear to mastery cus now with agi gemmed that is giving mé my crit. Ive entered icc25 and i stunned my whole guild..i was top dps in the guild before with my 6,1 ret pally but this was so massive dps All was like wtf is happening even mages had to kneel in the dust of my rogues massive 15k dps and ive dont have full sanc shadow gear yet irl friend of mine is setting hes 6,3 rogue to just same spec and gemming like i made mine and then gon a see what happen.. Ive wanted to firstemmig lvl my pally to 85 bit thats changed now i’m going rogue and i believe too we Will get a mass invasion of rogues in thr beginning of cata cus it’s like one of the only classes who actually been made Nice instead of running the chas and say thats it firstemmig is ón lvl 85 All chas are at same power if u get mé :p noot good to english sorry
