PTR Patch Notes – WoW

We recently put up a page for the Patch WoW links at Blizz. But we also want to give you some more insights incase you don’t go into patch notes like some folks (and you know who you are). So here are the more interesting tidbits coming from the current PTR notes.
Titansteel bars will no longer have a cooldown, expect prices to drop a bit since supply will be able to more adequetly match demand. The same thing applies to Moonshroud, Spellweave and Ebonweave – no more cooldowns on those.
Random dungeons have been such a hit that the concept is moving into the Battlegrounds. Using this system will give you extra honor equivalent to 30 kills the first time through each day and an extra 15 for further BG’s the same day. Since honor per kill is being doubled, that’s going to mean a lot more honor in random BG’s than queueing for specific battles. Marks of honor for specific battles are also being removed, we can only assume that those items which required marks will now be purchased with honor instead.
the deserter debuff for bailing on a random dungeon has been increased to 30 minutes. leaving a random party for any reason will trigger this debuff, which overwrites the usual 15 minute debuff. This will prevent some of the goonery for instances like Occulus, where people leave the second they see where they are. Honestly, just make the run mon.
For holiday bosses, you can now queue for the encounter without having to do the prequel quests each year. As long as you’ve done the boss before at least once you can just queue up random and go spank them.
But the big one is that those worthless Frozen orbs will now actually be useful for more than just vendoring. A new NPC is being added in Dalaran that will convert your Frozen orbs to other items. Here is the list of what he sells in exchange for frozen orbs (consider this to be currently accurate but Blizz has been knows to change their mind at the last minute). You can see the (current) list of items Frozo is selling at the link below.
Items you can get from Frozo the Renowned
Frost Lotus for a Runed Orb – that’s going to help some. It’s also going to raise the value of the orbs a bit and lower values for certain eternals. Since only one orb drops per heroic, there shouldn’t be a huge change in Ah prices for the items above, but beware the first week or two while everyone blows through all their extra orbs they might have sitting around.
I’m kicking myself now for finally vendoring about 60 of them, but you might be able to snag a few cheap stack off the AH before this change goes live. There are also some class changes you’ll want to take a look at. Once again DK’s are getting the most fiddling while most other classes remain fairly static.
It’s not what we would call a Dominating patch, but Frozo and the random battlegrounds will be a nice couple of changes.

Frozo wanted Benfrew’s frozen orbs, not runed orbs!
Because of this upcoming change, lots of ninjas have shown up in groups with Benfrew lately; mean ninjas wait until after everybody takes GREED and sneak in a NEED for the frozen orb.
Now Benfrew always announces at the start of a random dungeon (and right before the last boss) that EVERYBODY should take NEED for frozen orbs to outsmart the ninjas.
I have done tanking, healing and dps in the LFD systems since it was released, done hundreds of Heroics and never once did anyone hit greed, its always been need for the orbs, ALWAYS
lol – you can buy a Runed Orb with 4 Runed Orbs! Wow! What a deal!
I would assume that it was meant to be one FROZEN Orb for 4 Runed Orbs.
It’s 4 Frozen Orbs for 1 Runed orb.
As for the Frost Lotus I have seen them for 1 Orb or for 3.2G!

We will have to wait to see what the final price is.
And you forgot: Pattern: Frosty Flying Carpet [Tailors Only] (6)
You guys really need to edit your articles before blasting them out!
Been real rough lately with accuracy!
Heck send them to me to look at first LOL I’m home all day!
There are threads about frozen orb needing in the wow
forums. Go read them.
As for the cooldowns, it’s about freaking time. It’s really annoying when you need to make soulbags for your alt(s) and guildies, but it takes forever just because of the dumb cooldowns.
I am hoping that the bg random system is going to make xp gains semi on par with dungeons, but less than questing. Maybey rogue will get somewhere… I hate questing.
its not said here but I heard from fairly reliable source that they are halfing the exp gains in random BG’s (source: the Instance Podcast)
Dang dude, I left out the flying carpet on purpose because who gives a crap? Really though, we’re talking about PTR here, I can only put in what I can find. It will be accurate when the patch goes live, and by then it’s too late to help people be prepared. Do you really think anyone is going to be upset when Frozo comes out with a list that includes the flying carpet? I’m sure the rush will be on for all those tailors out there who were just waiting for the perfect opportunity to make the carpet they never made – even though they will ride their green proto drake instead.
Another reason for leaving out the flying carpet is that it didn’t look right to me. It turns out I was right. As of today the flying carpet has become a Pattern: Frosty Flying Carpet which may or may not be a placeholder. So it really is just one of those odd novelty items Blizz throws in and is of little importance in term of economic awareness. You can’t even look up the Frosty Carpet on wowhead yet so we have no clue what that is all about.
At some point folks are just going to have to trust us when we don’t report every tiny detail about some things. There are times that what you think you want to know isn’t really what you need to know. We have spent four years learning what we need to know and what things are just tidbits. There are other sites where almost unreadable word conglomerators hammer around about all the tidbits. Go ye therefore and feast. At DYS we will focus on what we feel like focusing on. It has served us, and will serve you – well.
I think this is a little harsh. Remember, DYS is about dominating in every way, and saving time.
I know at least 3 people, close friends on my server who leveled tailing to learn the mounts, and then dropped it to go back to their old profession. It takes almost no work to gather the cloth, especially runecloth, netherweave and frostweave and now you can get 3 mount from this(the mounts are not unlearned when the profession is unlearned, you just cant use them any longer); this would save you the equivalent time of doing 6 weeks of Argent Tourney dailies to get 3 of those mounts while working up to the 100 mounts achievement.
I dont know if you really did purposefully leave it out(your choice), or whether you made an honest mistake and forgot about it(no biggie just coulda admitted it). Whats funnier is you got all mad and defensive about the carpet, but the way i see it is that it just pushed you over the edge because everyone jumped on you about you writing “runed orbs” instead of “frozen orb”.
Sit back and relax, dominate, even if we noticed a rare mistake on your part we’re still reading your material. Take solace in having us hooked lol.
On a side note, im not sure whether you read other wow blogs, but Wow.com(formerly wow insider) just hired a money tips blogger who i swear is like gavin, all over the AH, a hunter guru, wondered what you thought of his work and the like. Cheerio!
This is true, but since the experience in battlegrounds is also based on honor gained at the end and not just XP per kill, the results are a push. In other words, you get half as much XP per kill, but twice as much honor per kill, so the bonus XP at the end makes it the same as before. Basically the change in honor points per kill were made to incentivize using the random battleground feature. Thirty extra honorable kills in your first random each day at double the honor per kill is a load.
There were some significant rogue changes too- but it’s probably a whole article’s worth of info and theorycrafting
Rupture: The damage-over-time component of this ability can now produce critical strikes. This will be huge. Look to see the “ruptureless” rotations go down.
Talents
o Subtlety
Filthy Tricks: Now Reduces the cooldown by 5/10 seconds and energy cost by 5/10 of Tricks of the Trade, Distract and Shadowstep abilities, and reduces the cooldown of Preparation by 1.5/3 minutes. These shouldn’t have a huge play on sublety dps. The tricks energy component is negated by t10 and the CD is unchanged.
Ghostly Strike: If the rogue has a dagger equipped, this ability now deals 180% weapon damage instead of 125%. Nice little pvp buff.
Hemorrhage: If the rogue has a dagger equipped, this ability now deals 160% weapon damage instead of 110%. Very nice, hemo on the rise?
Serrated Blades: This talent now allows the rogue to ignore up to 3/6/9% of the target’s armor, rather than a fixed amount of armor ignored per level of the rogue. This is just a stabilizer. It makes things a bit easier for the “average” player to figure out
Slaughter from the Shadows: Now adds 1/2/3/4/5% damage to all attacks and reduces the energy cost of Backstab and Ambush by 4/8/12/16/20, up from 3/6/9/12/15. Look for this talent alone to change how people look at deep sub.
Waylay: The debuff from this talent can now be caused by Backstab in addition to Ambush and can be triggered by all hits from these abilities rather than just critical strikes, but the snare component is now 50%, down from 70%. A nice pvp buff. This means that sub rogues can go w/o crippling poison.
All this combined shows an honest attempt by blizzard to balance out the 3 talent trees, but I still don’t think the changes/rebalancing is done. I’ll do some testing once patch goes life. (no PTR for me, sry)
I wish you guys were a bit faster. A few weeks ago a kept seeing people spamming “wtb all frozen orbs” so I checked notes and now have 100+ in the bank, but like I said, that was a few weeks ago. Now they are 30g + in the Auction House. I was wondering why you guys had not told people about that, guess it was coming just slowly.
@Advantus
You know, the guys that run this website aren’t REQUIRED to do anything. They do this for fun. They do have jobs and families outside of WoW… I know this because I played with them for over a year. Before you start criticizing what they do and do not put on this website (At no cost to you btw) think about how much time they take of there own free time to do this for YOU. and think about how much time YOU put into this website……….that’s what i thought….. If you don’t like the information they post… don’t freakin read it.
Out.
Since Schwarzertod made the point, I wanted to express my appreciation to the DYS team, I have been in Iraq for the past year, and having extremely limited opportunities to play WoW myself, DYS has been my link to my beloved game. So until I can return and even thereafter, Thank You Gavin, Lawbringer, and Team! For providing me with this life-line.
I would like to add what Schwarzertod and Van have posted. This site has been a tremendous benefit to the WoW community at large. Gavin, and Lawbringer created this site out of a passion for the game and a wish to share their knowledge with others. Because of DYS I was able to master many aspects of this game that previsouly I struggled with. Not to mention the relationships with so many the truly cherish.
Not to be outdone Agorg/Dindrane has assumed the reigns as editor and along with Anibow taken this site to the next level. Not only are all of these guys great players they are great people as well.
As was stated above , remember that we all have lives outside of WOW including the contributors to this site, remember that the next time you want to complain.
Keep up the great work DYS and thank you for what you do.
sigh – I didn’t “Write” runed orbs, it was from WoWhead. If you guys want to get all bent – go talk to them. And, now that I look at the post today, it has already changed again.
Frankly, no one actually knows what is going to be in the list, I just chose to publish the most reasonable facsimile that had already been published elsewhere. However, I will say that I do regret not linking back to such a source since it makes me look less than competent. If anyone had taken the time to look up the information themselves they would have found the same general lack of information I did.
The real story is not WHAT Frozo is selling, but the fact that he even exists. The key here is to save the orbs – that’s it. If you find that on your server it will mean you can get a crapload of Eternal Water because it’s the cat’s meow of high priced eternals, then great. For Kalecgos it will be Frost Lotus, but as you can see there is now a price attached to that one as well.
So, thank you all for the brow beating. From now on you will get links instead of easy to read if we are going to be held accountable to a level of accuracy that is virtually impossible regarding a future patch.
I didn’t put that in because they are also doubling the honor per kill (which is part of how you gain bg xp) so the net effect is zero. I thought it would be a waste of everyone’s time to spend 250 words trying to explain the halving/doubling thing when, in the end, it will not impact bg xp in a noticeable way. Yes, it is correct, but it makes no difference because they rebalanced it somewhere else.
ALL of the changes to BG honor and xp are related to incentivizing participation in the random BG feature. You will get the most honor – so much you will hardly want to do a BG directly any more. Just like what the Random dungeon system has done to dungeon runs. Random dungeons made us all not only WANT to do heroics again (something I handn’t done in months) but with the exception of maybe five or six runs in the new dungeons in a specific queue to get one trinket or another I will probably never do UP unless the random dungeon thing sends me there.
The same is going to be true with random BG’s. I don’t do a lot of BG’s, and I think that is the case with most people. But if Blizz wants a lot of people doing BG’s all they have to do is hand out a boatload of honor for doing so. It will get all of the BG’s filled to capacity because they will actually be worth doing again.
