Eye Of The Storm World Of Warcraft WotLK

The first of these is from Belisarius. Enjoy, and let us know in the thread what you think. And cut him some slack, it’s his first DYS BG!)
Belisárius’ Journal.
Level 67.
Draenei Protection Paladin
You are now eligible to enter Eye of the Storm.
Zone in, buffs all around. 1 minute until the battle begins. Spam Consecration, talk some premature trash about the enemy, and hit space bar as rapidly as you can. Wait for the countdown. 30 seconds.
Check your buffs Blessing of Sanctuary, Seal of Wisdom, Righteous Fury.
Time’s up! I pop my knuckles. Let’s do this.
Mounted on my Black War Tiger, I speed towards the nearest Tower. A Retribution Paladin and an Unholy Death Knight stand with me to hold the Tower, which is a formidable combination to even the most seasoned PvPers. The scale shifts towards the Alliance. We look out over the battlefield and wait.
They come all at once. Three, maybe four of them. I always lose track with all the pets. First target; Avenger’s Shield, Hammer of the Righteous, Consecration, Holy Shield, Hammer of Justice, Flash of Light, Gift of the Naaru, HotR again, Judgement of Wisdom, Holy Shield, Consecration. Somewhere I had killed the first and found a new target. Hammer of Justice- then gg for the second victim. I utilize my Holy Light casting timer to take note of the battlefield. The Death Knight is gone, dead probably. I exhale. The other Paladin is still alive. We got this.
We mana up, heal up, prepare for the next wave.
The first one up is an enemy Death Knight. Three for four allies show up and finish what we start. The Horde Death Knight dies, stun-locked by the Paladin duo. But then the rest of the the Horde DK’s friends arrive. At least five of them. I pick out a Warlock and stun. Avenger’s Shield! 3.5k crit! I try to pry my eyes off the pretty floating number and back to the action. Consecrate the ground, Hammer of the Righteous, Holy Shield, heal a comrade, stun, heal myself, retreat, Holy Shield, Avenger’s Shield. Dead Horde. Hammer of Wrath finishes off a straggler.
Again, we have held the Tower. We’re winning the battle, but not by much. We haven’t been able to push to the middle, to control the flag, and somehow, the Horde as pushed to our side and assaulted the other Tower.
I take a quick survey of our hilltop Tower, mount up, and leave the Ret Paladin and another defender to help the others. Switch to Crusader Aura, getting closer annnnd back to to Retribution Aura. Dismount, stun, consecrate, Holy Shield, silenced! Hop away, oh no. Four on one. I’m doomed. Avenger’s Shield, pop bubble. /dance. Stun, Hammer of Wrath. Got one, consecrate, bubble times out.
There are more of them now. Blows reign down on me from all sides. Poison seeps out of my body as my stunned self takes blow after blow from an angry Horde. I block some, but more and more get through. As my health drops to a flatline, I manage one last Consecration. A mediocre parting blow, but a parting blow nonetheless.
I’m dead. 30 seconds to Resurrection.
I quickly run my eyes over the statistics. Top KBs, second or first in everything else. First death.
10 seconds.
The Light fills my eyes. I am alive. Buffing up, I smile. Let’s do this.

Well written. Dramatic effect. Appeals to emotion.
On the downside – not the type of dominating information I have come to expect from this site. There are no real tips here.
I am not sure this is the appropriate place to ask, but awhile ago, (like months and months, maybe a year or so) there was a post that talked of an in game browser addon. Is there a way I could see that post again?
While not poorly written by any means, this story does not answer the question I would expect every post on this blog to answer: So what?
It’s not funny, it didn’t spark any memories like the deadmines “i’m a dos tank” stories, and I didn’t learn anything new amidst all the “this ability comma that ability comma hammer of justice” except that you’re specced into it’s reduced cooldown.
maybe if you created a section of the site for articles like this… short stories and what-not… but yeah, the no tips thing is kind of a bummer…. still good though.
this is a freakin story, not an article…
I dont think it was intended to be “informational,” hence “Belisárius’ Journal,” BUT you know what..I liked it! I think it was the first article in a few weeks that wasnt already known (I know some, or most, don’t know how to rape gold from the ah) or I had to skim the filler.
Good post, hope you stick around
i think that what the others are trying to say (none to well i may add) is that i dont believe that we come here to hear about how a BG went for somebody. we are mostly here to learn some new tricks to help us dominate.. wethere it be in PvP, PvE, AH or just playing our class.. if this would have been more informative and less “story telling” i think that it would have gone down better. for instance. telling us easier ways to help out in BG’s. better playing styles. and so on.. sorry. but we want information overload… things that will help us all out in the game..
sorry for the wall of text also.. im doing 5 things at once
However, Gav et. al.
If your looking for feedback if we like the guy’s Stlye – it’s a yes.
But the article is more story than help. aside from the array of actions that would only really help a Pally in BG’s
Nice work tho. I read an encounter much like this on wowhead a few weeks ago.
being a holy pally, and always a holy pally, I found the choice of spells quite informative. Been thinking of going prot but wouldnt even know where to begin as far as talents and what spells to use and when.
This article is no different on information than a lot of them posted here, not every article will help everyone all the time. And as we pallys say…if you help at least one person, youve done your job. Thanks Bel.
Maybe this whole exercise was to see what this person’s writing style is like…not to give out tips on how to dominate, but to see if this person has what it takes to become a new contributor. Cut the guy some slack…I think he did really well.
I thought it was kewl to read something a little out of the norm. Dominate is about the players. It’s not just a site for freeloaders to get tips that are already in several guides, books, and online services. Friggin gimme gimme gimme. It’s a public site. Don’t like the content, don’t read it.
I thought it was great. Well-written, detailed where exactly needed. Nice work Belisarius.
I don’t give a flying toss whether it contains useful information or not. I read every DYS article and enjoy the vast majority…the others are ok…very few are not useful in some way.
This is a refreshing change from the usual “stuff-I-already-knew” and an entertaining little story.
So lets look at the story itself.
The ending is good and there are pockets of good writing in there but there are also quite a few parts where the writing loses its passion and abruptly sounds very matter-of-fact. This piece drifts in between passionate and mundane which is a common signature of inexperienced authors. I did enjoy it though.
This little gem produced some good imagery:
“3.5k crit! I try to pry my eyes off the pretty floating number and back to the action.”
In my minds eye the fast-paced action dragged down to slow motion as the camera followed that number…then whipped back to the scene of the fight. Very good.
I think with a few (even basic level) creative writing classes this guy could be very good. Lets see some of his other work and we might know if he’s DYS material.
And Belisarius, feel free to drop some samples in my email: canicula_1@hotmail.com I’m no expert but I’ve studied creative writing and could give you a few pointers if you like.
For anyone interested, Belisarius emailed me a link to his wordpress profile. This is some more works by the guy who wrote this.
http://bcas.wordpress.com/
There is actually some very good material there. (I’m sure he won’t complain about me directing more traffic to his stuff … would he?)
I wouldn’t say there aren’t any useful tips in this story, it gives a very good description of his hit rotations that he feels are best for pvp. Its good information for any pallys that are looking to see what other pallys out there rely on.
Other than that though, it is a story, quite well written, and even though not an article, it could be added into a new section.
He has a black war tiger. That means he’s ally. FAIL!
Just kidding.
Good writing style. Topic, unclear.
More paragrphs to break up text please.
Look forward to more writings.

mention’s he’s a space goat too in the 5th word.
Which of course is the most superior race of all. Not metrosexual whatever those elves that statistically acount for 50%+ of the entire horde population….
Hey man…playing a BE chick > metrosexual BE male >_>
Oh yeah. Didn’t read the intro. Just like in HS. Haha. Dranei males creep me out. I like the females. No really, have NEVER been able to choose a dranei male that didn’t look like had birth defects. And don’t get me started on the looks of child molesters I mean Night Elf Males
-Matt
i always see dreni males and think of the scene in pirates of the caribbean where will is stealing the key from davy jones and has to navigate through the maze of tentacles
/yawn
Not what I expect from dominate.
Nice story, but I can live my own everyday.
Was hopeing for more tips on Eye of the Storm, like the Protection Pally, Retri Pally, Unholy DK being a better defence grp as that would apply to other bg’s as well.
There was going to be a follow-up section/intro thing that would have made this more than just a story, but there was a miscommunication on my side, so my apologies on that.
Thanks for the feedback, all of it. Even you, Grima!
I thought the article was quite entertaining. He held my attention, so that is a plus. He’s Alliance so that gets him at least 5 pluses:). His story was very good in that I had a visualization of the entire fight, his flight across to the other tower, and his ultimate sacrifice trying to hold a tower on his own.
All around VERY good story and look forward to more. I don’t have a Pallie, didn’t help me a lick as far as trying to dominate; I enjoy being entertained and this story did that. I don’t think he meant it as a “dominating” article; it was fun, entertaining, and for some pallies, was informative as to his hit/spell rotation.
I like stories like this, very entertaining AND informative. Good one, keep it up!
Well done.
I Really like your style. It’s not what we’d normaly find on DYS and to be honest, I found it quite refreshing, the article had some great ‘mind’s eye’ visuals.
I really wouldn’t mind seeing some more of your work.
This type of article would fit in nicely with the casual corner.
I think it was a nice break from the norm. As others have said, it would make good content for a ‘casual corner’ or something of the like. Most of the articles on here are informative and entertaining. I like the writing styles of pretty much everyone on this site. As a paladin who doesn’t BG much, I will re read the spell rotations (in the particular instances he describes) and use/adapt them to my own. I will refer to this article again when/if I decide to BG as Prot.
Now, had he had a holy paladin healing him (only because you get more mana back from Spiritual Attunement with a dual pally combo), and maybe just a tad more help than he did… it would have been gg, hordies.
Also, am I the only one that was envisioning Mage Tower?
If you had sections in your site that were dedicated to articles by class then I’m sure this could help some Pallys.
There was nothing about Rogue’s in there…..
Piss off alliance scum!
We want Horde stories!
slack given.
Well written
Overall, not too bad. Entertaining in places, informative in others (for prot pallies in a pvp environment).
Only a couple of errors, one typo, (”Three for four allies” – should be “Three or four allies”) and one definite mistake: “There are more of them now. Blows reign down on me from all sides.” That should be rain down on me, not reign, unless the blows have suddenly developed a predilection for kingsmanship…
Aside from that, it should be a case of making sure this type of story is identified as such, i.e. as an entertaining experience-based account of a place or situation. It could also be turned easily into a more “helpful” account by taking away the narrative character of the text and concentrating on what is happening. At which point it could easily be seen as a guide on what prot pallies can do in a BG (I know, limited, but not necessarily uninteresting).
Don’t try to give him credit by ascribing that any part of this can be taken as informative. Even so, just because they had their keystrokes put onto a blog doesn’t make them correct. “What to do in a BG” as a prot pally shouldn’t include Seal of Wisdom. But of course, he’s writing from a level 67 point of view. No Shield of Righteousness (read: all potatoes, no meat without this ability
). How about Sacred Shield, or Divine Plea? Not yet. Avenging Wrath? Level 70. And if he does have Seal of Corruption/Vengeance in his arsenal from about 1 level earlier, he hasn’t put it to use yet. Don’t defend this with the “I learned something because I knew nothing of it and hadn’t yet bothered to look for reliable information yet” excuse. (long, I know
)
It’s pretty well written (especially the crit part, was was cited by another comment earlier), even entertaining at a couple points, but beyond that, don’t create value that isn’t there. Give him the credit he deserves, which in my opinion would be better saved for an anecdote section of articles, and not the main blog of this site.
wow cool ! excellent, i like it b
