Easier Leveling With Flying Mounts

We knew that it would make leveling easier, but until we tried it out in Outlands we just didn’t know how much easier it would be. And you can complain all you want, but we love the way flying to quest means a whole new level of domination at level 60 and beyond.
We arrived in Hellfire on a fine hot afternoon about 2 weeks ago. Since Law and his crew always have extra cash lying around, buying the flying mounts was no problem. Hopping from one quest to another in Hellfire is so good it’s almost scary. Remember how the stupid pigs have an aggro radius of like 4 miles? No more of that crap, and Fel Reaver be danged. It’s an experience like nothing else we’ve ever had.
Even in Northrend, the places you had to fly to were so freakin far apart that part of the fun was lost. You can only really appreciate how much better the whole process is when you go back and see just how much different Borean Tundra is with a flying mount compared to running around on a ground mount. Plus, when you DID get your flying mount in Northrend, most of us had to live with the regular version (at least those of us with a bazillion alts) and it was painfully slow. But now that even regular flyers are fairly fast, you might just skip the epic flyer on a true alt since the basic Kmart mount is actually quite livable.
But perhaps the best part of being able to use the new, faster regular mount in Outlands and Northrend is that is will shave oodles of time off you leveling runs. So much time, as a matter of fact, that it’s giving us problems with the guide. People are leveling up so fast that they get ahead of the guide and run out of levels before they riun out of zones. Not that it’s a bad thing, mind you, just stating the facts.
Petitepowerhouse and the all girl review crew went from 58-68 in Outlands and never even really got into Nagrand. I mean, 10 levels in Hellfire, Zangarmarsh and Terokkar? It’s ridiculous, ridiculously delicious. Now, Petite didn’t have a level 80 main to send her the BoA cold weather flying book at level 68, so they are grounded again and hating it. But for all the rest of you who are sitting on a level 55 alt, you just might consider running them up to 80 now. Flying mounts in Outlands – now that’s Dominating!

I couldn’t agree more. i had 4 80’s and 4 70’s i couldn’t stand the thought of getting to 80. after the boa book i only have 2 70’s.
Northrend flying @ 70 is a breeze.
Complete agreement! There was nothing like getting a character to Outlands and suddenly feeling like you’re pwning the whole world (compared to the first times you did it, at least). Want to get to the boss at the end of the Pools of Aggromar, but hate having to wade through all those slimes on the way there? No problem, mon! You can just land your wyvern right on the ramp leading up to the demon’s lair. Need to kill off Blacktalon the Savage, but are annoyed by how many flayers aggro you while running through the valley? Try just flying right into Blacktalon’s cave. It even helps with getting the exploration acheivements before the previously high level, since you can now fly to anywhere you want.
What else can one say? Getting a flying mount at lvl 60 as soon as you enter Outlands? That dominates!
flying mounts at lvl 60 is definantly fun, but it makes the game too easy. where is the balance at? what can blizz do to make up for the hand outs they are giving these days. i, like many other players want to see some difficulty come back into the game. but it is something i can live with.
Flying really owns, and I noticed that with Cataclysm there will be zone revamp + flying in old zones.
I also heard from the blizzcon streams that they might have a passenger flying mount as goldsink next xp.
combine the above: you can get 1-58 having a friend using passenger flying making this incredibly fast lvl’ing
I agree totally. I bought the BOA book for my Shammy. I was llevel 73 when the patch hit but flying in North Rend 4 levels early made it way easier those 3 levels.
The difficulty as always is in the end game dungeons. As the level caps get raised they have to make it easier to level toons. If they did not new players would be hard to attract and no one would want to level from 1 to 80. I leveled my Shammy to 80 without any leveling guides in about 9 days play time. I had both BOA armor pieces with the 10% increase to XP on each piece and all I did was quest, rest, and heal dungeons. My guild needed another healer and now we have one.
Derisaan lvl 80 Hunter SV
Leemo lvl 80 Shaman Enhance/Resto
lvling is all in the head. blizz can make it 100 lvls and make xp be a whole lot more than what you get per quest now. with all the boa, buddy package stuff its faster gettin to 80 then when 70 was cap. my first char like most other first chars took a long time but my 2nd took about 14 days play time. you must see that the funnest part of the game to some people is lvling. i enjoy the things you do when lvling. i like pvp while lvling because not every mage or whatever u come across has the same t7 gear. they have different gear at lower lvls. its not all about being lvl 80 to me.
Oddly enough I only fly when in a hurry when first in OL on my alts. I just can’t pass up the extra exp an money I get from grinding mobs between quest objectives.
If they are grounded again why not just get a port to Dalaran? I have my alts there and their level 13 and 25 lol.
The thing i notice about some of the changes they have made to make it easier to level are only accessible if u already have a level 80 toon, you cant fly in NR or get boa gear unless you have already done it once. I think it is great to not have to go through all the same grind that I already have done. I took a DK from 60 to 70 in about half the time as it took me with my other toons and most of it was because i could fly to where i need to go and not have to kill the same group of mobs 4 different times on chain quest. I personally dont care for questing enough to level alot of toons but since i can ride at 20 and fast ride at 40 then fly through outlands and northrend I am more willing to use time I was just messing around to level classes I have always wanted to try.
Meh… Leveling was half the fun, my acc just ran out of game time and im not sure if i want to buy more.
I agree completely! I got the “Nothing boring about Borean” achievement on my alt in about half the time it took me to get to a level where I could go on to dragonblight. Being able to do extra quests quicker makes up for not having the XP from mobs you aggro while traveling.
Bit late with this one aint ya!
I have a buddy who got his flyer at 60 and KILLED Outlands. Now that he’s in Northrend he’s in the same predicament as the all girl review crew; has to run around on a ground while my Druid is gliding on the air currents above him. I love the freedom but I also feel his pain. I guess he’ll really appreciate the freedom flying brings when he gets his rogue to Northrend next and buys a Tome of Cold Weather flying.
Not really, we reported on it well before it actually happened – in this post on July 30th:

This is what is called an “update.” Gratz!
