Yes, you are correct, most professions combinations are relatively equivalent.

That being said, I am currently in the process of learning to heal since the guild needs a MT Healer more than a Tank ATM. I must say that mining, as profitable as it may be gives NOTHING to a Holy paly :(

JC/BC combo for the win (versatility) even more so if you plan on dual-spec in end game content.

You might be thinking BS is better than JC because all you see is 51 stam gems.

In a game where balancing the defence cap means everything for a tank, having the ability to craft a yellow gem worth virtually double the defence of a standard yellow gem is very handy. It allows you to wear gear that has no defence on it - but has superior stats - that you would have not been able to wear otherwise. The level 219 bread cutter tanking sword in 5 man HToC for example. For those that are still using Red Sword of courage or a naxx25 tanking sword, this is a fairly big upgrade.

The JC tanking trinket (although a blue item) is still one of the best tanking trinkets. Ive seen lvl232+ geared tanks still using it due to the 2 gem slots and the dodge bonus. Two dragons eye gems in that trinket and it shines.

Theres more to JC than stam gems.

To the author, it sounds like you have done your research. Doesnt mean we can't still learn things from others. I wouldnt take comments like the one I'm replying to personally.

Blood draining is not the best tanking enchant for paladins. Since its a heal when you drop below 35% hp, it ruins the 30% dmg reduction from ardent defender.

I'm not a paladin, but in about a year all this will go out the window when Cataclysm hits and they streamline attributes. Nice to know though just in case I level up a Pally with my new RAF.

Meso, I really do appreciate any and all feed-back and I'm usually open to criticism, I may have undervalued Leatherworking as a profession to a Plate Wearing Tank, and I'm willing to raise my evaluation to "That's nice", one notch above Useless.

You are correct that Leatherworking does give a 102 Stam to Bracers and not 90 as I said in the article (Updated in 3.2 I assume).

However: Before you tell someone to "Seriously do some research" ... you may want to do yours, sir:

A) Jewelers' Gems are 51 Stam (since 3.2 ... did you even read the article?)

B) There is no such thing as a 75 Stam to legs ... you may be referring to http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=60584 that gives 75 Crit strike or possibly http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=60583 which gives the Leather Worker a self-only upgrade that is directly equivalent to http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=50965 but only cheaper.

C) Just to clarify: Black Smith won't give you 60 Stamina, it gives you 2 prismatic sockets that can fit any color gem (2x30Stam gems in this case)

D) If we're on the subject of Bracers: Non-LW will get a 40 Stam enchant, JCers can add 3x51 Stam gems (that's 3x21 more then non-JC = 63 Stam "upgrade"). Last time I checked 63 is > then 62.

E) What can LW do that JC can't do better or faster and with more flexibility? How will LW help me if one day Blizzard decides that the new "must have" stat for tanks is Strength? I pity you every time you get a new piece of Gear that brings you under the Def Cap (540).

That being said I stand by my original conclusion :
Top 3 Professions for the Plate-Wearing Protection Paladin are
1) Jewel Crafting
2) Mining (Same Stamina value as BS but makes money instead)
3) Black Smith (Adds versatility if you want to do something other then Tank)

 Seriously do some research. This article is seriously flawed. J/C certainly isn't a good choice over B/Sing. I'd choose L/W over J/C any day. 102 stam, 75 stam to legs is far greater than 3x41 stam gems which is just a gain of 33 stam total over regular gems. If you gem unlimited j/c gems then fair enough but with the 3 limit. Yeah, not a good choice. BSing alone will give you +60 stam over the 33 stam offered by J/C.

I would like to add a comment about the weapon enchant comment posted above. This is my first time posting! Not trying to be elitist either, just offering another perspective.

Although a free 2k heal is fantastic when you drop below 35%, it is not a constant effect - and not worth ~200stam.

A straight up 200stam buff to a weapon would be over the top. So much so that, in fact, our friends at Blizzard have removed the Titanguard enchant from the game, as they beleived that to be too OP (and that's only 50 stam)!

Stamina for paladins currently do a few things - other than provide more HP.

1.) Touched by the light talent converts 30% of stam into spellpower if all 3 points are allocated. This is a direct conversion to threat.

2.) A higher stamina value means that the Ardent Defender talent will kick in within a wider range of HP. For example, if a tank has 10k hp (to make it easier on the maths for me!), the ardent defender talent will reduce all damage taken by 30% if the tanks current HP sits between 1 and 3500hp (or if damage taken brings the HP down that far). Add another 200 stam and the tank has 12k HP. Ardent defender will now activate between 1hp and 4200hp.

So with a 200 stamina boost, the tank not only has ~2000 more HP, but his effective HP also increases due to ardent defender.

Blood draining doesnt do either of these effects so therefore is nowhere near as useful as 200 stam. I would personally say that Bladeward is superior as it provides constant benefit (meaning it can proc at any time) as opposed to an ability that will only activate when you go below a certain point in HP.

Also, in the next patch, blizzard are changing threat mechanics for paladins. Reducing Righteous Fury's effects by 10% and changing the Touched by the Light talent to convert 60% of strength into spellpower, as opposed to 30% of stamina. This will change the gem preference very shortly, and opens a gold earning opportunity!

Keep up the good work guys!

Love reading your work.
