You may feel that way, but you realize that it's an age thing right? People older than you are saying the same thing with how you operate in the real world today.

"In my day, we had to do everything by hand with pencils and papers instead of all this computer mumbo jumbo."

Ya it sucks, but just deal with it, understand that the people coming up are not seasoned, and you will still destroy them in any kind of sense on a level playing field, since you know your class because you've been playing it for 5 years. Someone playing for 2 1/2 weeks will not know as much about their class unless they put actual EFFORT into learning how to play it. You will still have experience under your belt. I really wish people would stop complaining about this. I mean, it's not like just because they get 5 pieces of T8.5 level gear, that they can go clear Ulduar 25. They probably don't even know how to raid properly yet.

Absolutely, patches any major changes to any content in the game certainly lead to many one-time opportunities, as is the case here.

I am even adventuring into the gem market myself but have refused to put down any gold as starting capital in this short term venture. I had 220 emblems of Heroism and 55 emblems of Valor. With those I bought Red, Yellow and Blue epic gems only, I then went to the JC vendor and bought out 1-2 paterns that I knew would be in high demand:
Blue: Stamina
Yellow: Defense, Hit Rating
Red: Strength, Spell Power

Since patch day I have sold a few of each (cuts and raw gems) but the market is crashing ... fast. As I suspected, there was a quick bit of gold to make in the first 72-96 hours after the patch, but the real money-making opportunities are evaporating faster then water in Molten Core.

Just how profitable this particular patch is going to end up being is still up for debate but I'm at least up 250% pure profit

Shouldn't somebody mention how Benfrew used to have to walk uphill both ways through driving snow between Thunderbluff and the Orc city? Blizzard has made life sooo much easier for Benfrew over the years, and Benfrew doesn't mind at all.

That long grind to 40 to get your epic mount was changed to benifit those of us who have played this game for a very long time.

The number of new toons is on the rise, however the number of new accounts is not on pace with it. Blizz tried to accomplish two things; ONE make it more appealing to new players by removing the long grind to 40 for a mount (moving thru low level content faster keeps new accounts active and paying), TWO (because the number of new toons is outpacing accounts) Blizz has recognized that you have already been thru the mount grind and they are letting you get yours sooner. So you shed a litle more blood to pioneer thru the Pre-BC, at least you can reap the benefits as well. They coulda made it for new accounts only, OUCH!
Think of how much more benifit we all got out of running Pre-BC, all the content we have seen that folks new to WOW won't.

I do have the AH mastery e-book and I'm aware of the don't-buy-gems-for-resale rule. However I consider this a one-time opportunity due to the patch and the huge influx of supply that will not last. (considering that non-jc's can only buy them with heroism and most people wont be converting their conquest's for a while)

I'd appreciate a Lawbringer response :P

Gems and JC in general are not a very profitable venture. If you've been reading DYS for any length of time you'll quickly see that the HUGE (proportional) listing fees eat up directly into your profit.

The only way to truly profit from this is if you get the gems for free (with emblems of heroism for example) and re-sell them or the highly wanted cuts they can give: Strength, Spell Power, Stamina, Hit Rating, Defense ...

As far as long term goes the prices should level out and become reasonable again when the market gets saturated and the overanxious, hyperactive, instant gratification type have gotten their gems NOW! !

Usually however on most servers the raw materials will be a far safer bet the the crafted items/gems.

As to the best use of your stock pile that really depends on your server's economy ...

Nice article. I have a question that I would love to have answered regarding epic gems.

The huge influx of epic gems has seen the average price of them go from 500-600g apiece to 130-150g apiece in ONE DAY. (Patch day)
I'm attributing this to the large number of people burning their now-worthless Emblems of Heroism on gems to sell.

Would your eminence recommend buying a few of the cheapest gems anticipating a price rise in a month or so once the huge oversupply dries up?

I just dropped 2k on buying a few of each uncut epic gem. Should I put them back up tomorrow and cut my losses or wait it out and try to profit?

All of us who started playing pre-BC have been technically "screwed" by having to "run" instead of "ride" to 40, and every patch has brought more injustices. The fact is if you are still playing it must not be that bad. I think if all there was to do was run strat over and over I would have cancelled my account 2 years ago. Change is inevitable, let it goooooo, its actually good for your health. I feel your pain, sixsmith, but Lawbringer is trying to be positive, something I wholeheartedly promote. Maybe he was a little condescending, but considering the volume of thread comments he makes, I don't doubt that he is as sick of the negativity as the rest of us. Either take it in stride, or quit the game... if changes are causing you stomach cramps then you are wasting your money and time...you are supposed to have FUN... I can impress people with my epic style here in the real world, but they are never really impressed. This is even more true in WoW. If you're not enjoying it, and you know minority opinion will never budge the Bliz giant, move on.

Although i agree with both Law and six on some points, i would have to say that sixsmith - you are out of line.
If you're opinions are negative towards another person, keep them to yourself.. and especially don't do it on a website where he publishes articles to help people.. would you go into someones place of work and start abusing them because your opinion is conflicting with the person's
