Another nice change that wasn’t mentioned in the podcast is that the regular flyers speed is being increased to 150%.
WOW thanks for the update I was just about to buy my epic flyer at 5000gp now will wait till patch for the discount.
Not exactly wow related, but why are your podcasts limited to 10mins, but then there is a song at the end that goes on for another 5mins? Not a complaint, and I love the podcasts, but just a question why the backround theme of your podcasts is to hurry right along. Is it to cover the good stuff fast?
This is one of my fav podcasts so far, btw! Keep it up.
One other last question about the gold tip. How does this speed up the selling for stuff that does not sell too well in the first place? When I leveled my main toon, a skinner, to 80, I had a thing for skinning everything I could and then sending bags full of leather to my bank. After a while of having a entire guild bank tab full of Borean Leather, I turned it all into Heavy Borean Leather. I had a good 20 stacks of this stuff. It costs a TON to post in the AH, and the price on my server was 60-70g per stack. It also vendored for 27g per stack. Auctioneer recomended I vendor them to save a very expensive low selling auction. Would this price tip have helped in this situation?
Thanks,
Superglue @ Cenarius
Loved it guys, and to resound Superglue’s thoughts- could we get longs, more tip filled podcasts?
And as far as gold and 3.2 go- are you guys planning on clearing out the rogue-type 1h axes on your servers(since rogues finally get 1h axes)? I remember a similar post back in BC when shammies got dual wield. You made some obsene profit from simply buying out existing weps and reposting at 200%
Stylth @ Malorne
The answer to the podcast length has to do with time to produce each episode. It takes a certain amount of time to script each podcast. And we pretty much have to script it because you just can’t pull off the character voices without one. Then there is all the production work on every single second to get all the voices modulated and spaced properly to make it sound smooth. Then there is music and post production and uploading and ten or fifteen other things.
Since the podcast is intended as a treat and not our primary offering we had to come up with an amount of time we can spend on making each podcast that doesn’t take away from our being able to continue to develop great articles, spend some time with the wife and kids and still play the game some. I’m sure no one will begrudge us a little fun on our own or some RL stuff.
So while the 30 minute podcasts are nice, they also take more than 4 times as long. Every minute of script you have to write and voice and produce costs about 18 minutes. So we can reasonably spend 3 hours to do a ten minute podcast but it’s hard to find 8 or 9 hours to do the longer ones. That’s the long answer. The short one is that it just takes too much time away from other things we are trying to get done for the site to do a long episode every week. So we decided a short one can make everyone reasonably happy.
On the gold tip –
There is really no way of knowing if price capping will help until you do it in each situation. If AADV gives you a vendor recommendation it would be hard for me to buck that. But what you can do is price cap with say 5 stacks, vendor the rest, roll the price cap for a while and see if it brings the market back from the dead.
I would say your primary problem is just Leatherworking in general. I make far more gold from lower level LW mats than the Borean items. I suppose this has to do with the fact that while people still level LW, the end products aren’t in much demand. So you will probably make better cash on Medium Leather than Heavy Borean unless LW gets some killer new items with ridiculously high mat costs.
The same thing is true for Tailoring. I make more from wool than Frostweave. Plus, many LW’s go with skinning anyway and are probably drowning in their own mat supply, just like you were. Most of the time I “guess” on a market by projecting my situation to apply to most people. If I’m long on gathered mats for a profession it’s a good bet that most people in that profession are too. If I’m having trouble getting enough Thorium it’s a good bet most other people are as well. If you really need/want something it’s reasonable to assume that that is where the market is. So when I find myself needing 20 stacks of something and only 10 are available THATS when the time is ripe to set a price cap and drive a market up (or maybe even farm a little (gulp)). But if I’m stuck with something that isn’t selling I will raise a price cap and let it ride for a bit to gauge the results. If the increased price cap doesn’t put any upward pressure on the market and give me any traction I’ll bail out or park the stuff in a bank for a few months until I see a change in the market – leaving the price cap in place isn’t a bad idea (but only if the listing fees are reasonable).
In your specific situation I would say trust auctioneer and vendor the leather. Remember you want the best return on your TIME, not just a good return on your gold. Gold per unit of time is the key. You could spend 12 hours squeezing every last copper out of that leather and only make about 30 more gold than you would if you had just vendored it. Your time is more valuable than that since there are so many other market plays you can make that will give you far more gold with almost no extra effort.
Oh, and it’s also easier to just let the last song end on its own instead of clipping it. Plus, there are times on radio shows where I would like to have heard whole songs the engineer puts under the voices, but advertising gets in the way. Since we’re not on the radio we can do what we want, so we let the song play. You can always hit stop if you like.
personally i enjoy the ending songs its something different, like you said they sometimes play only parts of songs and they sound really good but you dont know how the rest goes.
the reason you would trade down your conquest emblems is because epic level gems will be sold for 15 EoH’s. So to purchase them, you will have to convert them down.
