This is going to be pretty short and sweet. We’re going to give you the best areas for major Herb farming. This will be especially helpful if you’ve picked up herbalism as a higher level character and need to rush back through the lower levels or newbie zones as you pick your herbalism skill up by the boot straps.
As you go through this guide, remember that when doing circuits of an area, try to travel in a zigzag pattern. The more of an area you cover, the better your farming will be overall. Also, when you get to the higher level herbs, don’t skip the lower level stuff just because you don’t get skill ups for it. Part of the way nodes spawn is related to how many empty nodes there are in the area. The more nodes you pick, the more new nodes will spawn in the general area. You can actually speed things up by picking everything that pops up on your map. Besides, you can either sell the mats you don’t need at ah or turn them into potions to use or sell if you are doing Alchemy.
Some time ago we posted a terrific article from Fran Molina, our Brazilian correspondent, about farming Terrokar Forrest. That was back in BC days when such a thing was profitable, but she has some good tips there as well that we won’t repeat – but her article is definitely worth another read. You can get to it using this link.
1 – 50: Silverleaf and Peacebloom
Alliance:
- Dolanaar
- Dun Murogh
- Elwynn Forrest
- Azuremyst Isle
Horde:
- Mulgore
- Tirisfal Glades
- Eversong Woods
- Durotar
51 – 70: Mageroyal & Earthroot
Alliance
- Westfall Coast
- Gol’Bolar Quarry, Dun Morogh
- Darkshore
- Silverpine Forest
Horde
- Northwest Badlands
- Barrens
71 – 100: Briarthorn
Alliance
- Darkshore
- Twilight Grove, Duskwood
- Eastern shore of Loch Modan
- Lakeshire, Redridge Mountains
Horde
- All of Northern Barrens
- Southern Silverpine Forrest
101 – 115: Bruiseweed
Alliance
- Western Ashenvale
- East of Loch Modan
- Stonewatch Keep, Redridge Mountains
Horde
- Ramparts North to Splintertree post in Ashenvale
- Stonetalon Mountains
- Southern Barrens
116 – 125: Wild Steelbloom
Alliance
- Stonetalon Peak
Horde
- Southern Barrens
- From Great Lift to Highperch in Thousand Needles
Both
- Stranglethorn Vale
- Outer edges of Arathi Highlands
- Nek’mani Wellspring in Stranglethorn Vale
- Zuuldaia Ruins, Stranglethorn Vale
By this time, both Alliance and Horde will be farming similar areas, so we’ll just lump them all together and you can look for herbs as you travel. Also, the higher levels have more scattered spawn points, so you’ll need to do complete circuits of each of these areas to find all the nodes.
126 – 160: Kingsblood
- Ashenvale
- Charred Vale, Stonetalon Mountains
- Wetlands
- Hillsbrad Foothills
- Misty Reed Swamp, Swamp of Sorrows
161 – 185: Fadeleaf
- Swamp of Sorrows
- Stranglethorn Vale
186 – 205: Khadgar’s Whisker
- Stranglethorn Vale
- Hinterlands
- Eastern Arathi Highlands
- Swamp of Sorrows
206 – 230: Firebloom
- Searing Gorge
- Blasted Lands
- Tanaris
231 – 250: Sungrass
- Felwood
- Feralas
- Forlorn Ridge, Azshara
251 – 270: Gromsblood
- Felwood
- Mannoroc Coven, Desolace
- Blasted Lands
271 – 290: Dreamfoil
- Un’Goro Crater
- Azshara
290 – 300: Plaguebloom
- Western Plaguelands
- Eastern Plaguelands
300 – 330: Felwood, Blasted Lands
331 – 350+: Zangarmarsh
350 – 375: Shadowmoon, Zangarmarsh or hop to Northrend
350 – 420: Goldclover
- Howling Fjord
- Borean Tundra
400 – 450: Frozen Herb
- Dragonblight
- Zul Drak
As a level 80, you could easily do this in just a few hours. Also, if you are power leveling, be sure to watch where the herbs overlap, you can go from 225 – 350 in Felwood alone, and maybe pick up a few Felcloth while you’re at it. Zangarmarsh is also just packed with herbs, so once you get there, there’s no real reason to leave, unless you just get bored of looking at giant mushrooms and would rather head out to Northrend where there are far more Dominating profits to be made.

A good thing to note is that if you are leveling up while herbing, you will probably come across the Herbalism Trainer at these towns:
Training 1-300(requires 50, 125, 200 and level 25)
-Any Allience or Horde major city
Training 300-375(requires 275 and level 40)
-Honor Hold, Hellfire (Allience)
-Thrallmar, Hellfire (Horde)
Training 375-450(requires 350 and level 55)
-Valiance Keep, Borean Tundra (Allience)
-Valgarde, Howling Fjord (Allience)
-Warsong Hold, Borean Tundra (Horde)
-Vengeance Landing, Howling Fjord (Horde)
*Dalaran has a Herbalism trainer that teaches every level, 1-450
Assuming you have a flying mount, Terokkar is less frustrating than Zangarmarsh, in my opinion. Zangarmarsh spawns way too much Golden Sansam, Blindweed, and Dreamfoil to be useful for powerleveling for long.
Also, I’m not a fan of Felwood. You can’t zigzag easily because everything is closed in and hard to get to. You can be 30 yards from an herb and have to spend a full minute walking around to it. And unless you’re either very familiar with the area, you have to mouse over every dot on your minimap to make sure it isn’t one of the Corrupted plants for the cenarion salve quest, since they show up no matter how much you don’t care about them.
My favorite place to level up from about 200-300 is Hinterlands. There’s Khadgar’s Whisker in the west, but you can farm Purple Lotus almost exclusively in Jintha’Alor, and Ghost Mushrooms in Skull Rock, and Golden Sansam and Sungrass in quantity on the eastern end of the zone. You get access to some of the more valuable herbs to sell at that level, and even though Golden Sansam sucks to sell, it’ll carry you all the way to 300, and it’s everywhere. If you get bored towards 290 with everything turning grey, move on to zangarmarsh and the low level herbs there actually benefit you then, for a couple minutes.
Additionally, there are a Lot of nodes in Sholazar Basin. But Great resource as always guys…
I remember this article from last year! And I was in Myrtle Beach on vacation. *Sigh* Oh, the memories. And still very helpful info! Thanks for bringing it back Lawbringer.
