Critter Gitter And Friend or Fowl Achievements
Posted on May 18th, 2009 by Lawbringer under Achievements, Alliance, Efficiency Tips, Funny, General Tips, Horde, Humor, World of Warcraft, WotLKGoofy, fun and fast – just the way we like our achievements. This is a really easy one to do as well and it’s certainly a break from raiding. It’s a break from anything else for that matter since it has virtually nothing to do with anything we can think of.
There is a tiny bit of preparation involved. You’ll need a half a stack of Critter Bites. If you’re making the recipe yourself that means you’ll need a stack of chilled meat (20) and 10 northern spices. If you don’t feel like blowing the spices on these, just get the critter bites from the AH, they are usually super cheap.
Next, get on a flight to Howling Fjord and then travel out to 69,64 right where the roads form a “Y” on the map south of Nifflevar and west of the Explorer’s League Outpost. You’ll see the turkeys running around all over the place.
Now, there is a slightly better spot to do this, but we’ve got a good reason for sending you here. You can double up on two achievements at one time in this spot. After you’ve befriended all the turkeys with the critter bites, you can give them all a good smack down for the second achievement.
To complete Critter Gitter
- Hotkey the Critter Bites
- Target a Turkey
- Hit your Critter Bite Hotkey
It’s pretty funny to see the small flock following you around for a minute or so. Sadly, they are all about to end up as supper. Once your bird army de-spawn (takes about a minute) set up for the next part.
To complete Friend or Fowl just use the following macro:
/target Fjord Turkey
/cast Ice Lance (insert your favorite instant cast spell or ability here)
/cleartarget
Roasted turkey bodies all over the ground, and be prepared for the mass turkey attack that follows. About 10 seconds after you do this one you’ll be swarmed by about 20 Angry Turkeys wanting a little payback for the Fowl Fricassee you just made. It’s good for a chuckle and 20 points in your log in about 5 minutes. Go Dominate those turkeys.

Heh, I did the Friend or Fowl one there as well and it was worth a good laugh when they all rush you at the end. I happened to do the Critter Gitter one on the back cliffs of Icecrown where there are tons of penguins just sittin around in groups of 10+ just waiting to be tamed. Also heard of people going to Moonglade for all the different critters there but your suggestion would of course save time and get two turkeys with one stone
It’s probably worth mentioning that going after the turkeys and their subsequent backlash is probably a nod toward the Zelda series, in which there are chickens scattered across the world. Repeatedly beating these up will eventually launch a debilitating attack by fowl spawning off-screen and swooping down on you, which will last until death, or zoning.
Another fast way to do this is while your in Icecrown grinding daily’s head north along the ridge that leads to Stormpeaks. You will find huge flocks of penguins that work just as well and may save you some travel time.
Personally I had a flash of inspiration just before a Grobbulus pull in 25 man Naxxramas; noticed that there were a bunch of rats and maggots, and I had a stack of Critter Bites in my bag, so I thought “why not?” and did it. I think the other raid members were quite amused. XD
self correction… follow the north ridge towards shadowvault for the penguins
I hope you don’t mind if I elaborate on your macro
#showtooltip
/target [nodead] Fjord Turkey
/cast Ice Lance (insert your favorite instant cast spell or ability here)
Just spam it to death. It should just target the next living turkey, and ignore the dead ones.
WTB edit button.
For the critter bites part
/target [harm,nodead] Fjord Turkey
/use Critter Bites
This will target only turkeys that a) can have a damaging abilities affect them, and b) are alive.
That way, you don’t have to worry about critter bites being sent to turkeys you already control.
seeing those lovely macro’s, is everyone aware you can copy and paste straight into wow from any text, saves a lot of time and most people don’t seem to realise you can do it.
