Argent Tournament

The Argent Tournament is just one of the mountains of new changes in patch 3.1. On the surface, it looks like just another time sink, but could they really be worth your time and effort. It certainly looks as though they might, but you’ll have to judge that for yourself.
So here’s a quick walk through about how to get the whole thing started. It’s not tough, but you might be able to shave a few minutes off the start if you know exactly where to go and what to do. After that it’s just all grabbing dailies from the same spots, and you’re on your own at that point.
First, run up to the FP in Dalaran and talk to either Officer Van Rossem or Sky-Reaver Klum and get a flight to one of the big Icecrown blimps. From the blimp, fly to Far northeast Icecrown to the Argent Grounds at (71.2,24.26)
Pick up the Quests “The Argent Tournament” and “The Blastbolt Brothers from Justicar Mariel Trueheart in the big tent at the far west side of the grounds at (69.7,22.9). Grab the FP from Helidan Lightwing at (72.57,22.63) and then it’s over to turn in “The Blastbolt Brothers” to Mr. Bezzle Blastbolt. Pick up both the daily quests here from the Blastbolt guys: “Jack Me Some Lumber,” and “A Chip Off the Ulduar Block.”
Now we’ll turn in “The Argent Tournament” either to Magister Edien Sunhollow (for Horde) at (76.27,24.36) or Arcanist Taelis (for Ally) in the Ally tent at (76,20). Then Accept Mastery Of Melee,” “Mastery Of The Charge,” and “Mastery Of The Shield-Breaker.”
Now that you know where the two major NPC locations are, we can move on to questing locations. First complete the three mastery quests on the North side of the grounds around (72.8,19.3) where you will find the three practice target types. If you’re doing this on more than one toon don’t forget that you have to talk to the NPC’s on each toon – its part of the quest objectives. Once complete; run back, turn them in and accept the three new dallies.
Two of the quests are the same, for the first few days at least. As we progress and things change later, we’ll let you know. So grab four quests the first time including “Up To The Challenge,” “Training In The Field,” Learning The Reigns,” and the other rotating quest – one of “A Worthy Weapon,” ” A Blade Fit For A King” or “A Blade Fit For A Champion.”
Go back to the north side of the grounds where you learned to whack all the target dummies and do that again. Then you can fly down to () just south of the Argent grounds to kill the scourge. Make your way to Dalaran (or close-by anyway) and then west to (15,34) and use the Lumberjack’s Axe on the Crystalsong Oaks in the area around the huge tree. Every time you chop a tree a level 80 angry oak spirit will attack you, not tough though.
Next, use the Crystal at (15.75,42.48) to Teleport back up to Dalaran and take the FP to whichever zone is needed for the rotating quests. Once that one is complete; fly to Storm Peaks to finish up by using the Goblin Chisel (the bomb) in your inventory on Ulduar Blocks of Stone. The best location seems to be around the engine of the Makers at (40.47,56.38).
Now you can just fly from Storm Peaks to Tournament Grounds and turn them all in. Pretty easy gold since the whole thing won’t take you more than 20 minutes max every day. Now, this only takes you through the first 3 days, and we’ll post on the next portion again in a few days once we run through it a time or two.
There are some pretty nice weapons as rewards for all of this as well as various mounts and pets and other goop, we’ll get to all of that later since you can’t even get them until much later down the line. Good luck on the tournament and as always, Dominate.

Tip:
You can get as many planks as you want.(Don’t have to stop at 12)
I recommend stocking up to save you time on future times doing this quest.
What is the purpose of doing the lumber and stones dailies? I’ve never done dailies that don’t give rep because they don’t pay the hourly minimum of 600g per hour. Since you normally use a similar method of deciding how to spend your time, I’m curious why you would waste time doing these? Am I missing something?
There is Rep associated with these daily’s, The Sliver Covenant for Alliance, not sure for horde.
Makes it worth it for me, need all the achievements i can get
Balduun, Ravencrest USPVE
Couple comments on this post.
I flew out to the grounds on my mount the first time, just to see if there were herbs on the way, but after I got back in Dalaran I noticed there was a new npc there at the flight point that offered to take me directly to the tournament grounds but only once (just like the one that took you to the Basin back during leveling). So if you’re going out there for the very first time I would suggest checking that first to save time, the npc was on the white hippogryph? mount that the faction seems to use though I don’t remember the name.
Second thing… is there much reason other than the cash reward, to do the brother’s quests? I realize the “purpose” is to supply the raw materials to build the tournament grounds but can they just be skipped over?
Thanks for the info, good for those who haven’t made it up to the grounds yet.
edit:
The npc is Jean Pierre Poulain.
Yes, no one on the server has to do the material gathering dailies in order to move onto the seccond stage of the event. The seccond stage will come in 3.2, no matter how many times your server has completed the dailies.
Awesome, thanks
If you do the killing of the scourge along with the banner guest from the ebon blade daily works real well.
In patch 3.2 there is a rumour that we start to build the building in the middle of the tournament, hence the lumber and stone dailies.
The more you do these dailies the easier they seem to get, remember to look for vyragosa and the time lost proto drake while your in storm peaks and you could get yourself a sweet mount =)
have fun all
For Druids the Lumber collection is even easier, as you can switch to flightform and be off before the angry tree spirit spawns.
Cuts the time for the daily down alot, especially for solely Resto druids.
For the stone chips…remember to get back, its ~7k of damage to anyone too close as it explodes!
WTF you can FLY to the blimps? I never knew that. I’ve been flying there with Failform.
You don’t have to fight the angry tree that spawns, just run off and it disappears, much quicker than killing it unless you are imba dps (I’m a resto shammy and a prot warrior)
the only problem with that is they don’t always despawn before you get to the next tree.
i never have a problem as i am a DPS pally and they die in 2-3 shots
Thanks for the info on Argent Tourney. I got one question though, I love your articles Lawbringer, but where the hell is Gavin? I haven’t seen his name on an article in forever. Just wondering. Keep up the dominating work!
