Nice Article. My friends and I have been running with a larger guild called Favle on the Kirn Tor sever. We do this because our guild is still undersized for the big 25 man raids. So to fill the time we have been running the newly leveld 80's through all teh dungeons and even going back and running the lower level toons through some of the old dungeons just for the Acheivements. Soon we will start the 10 man raids with our guild and then next on to the 25 man stuff. We spent 2 hours the other night flying all our Outland to get all the exploring acheivements just for fun. The fun has been brought back to the game.

One of the best times I ever had in WoW was when 2 friends and I decided to 3-man Dire Maul North at 60 (in pre-MC gear - full Devout ftw!). It added a new way of looking at things - Can we sneak past this group here? Mind soothe, oh yeah, that's in my spellbook somewhere. Fear can be great CC, in an empty hallway..

We had similar to Tamathia's situation back in MC - our GM was always slow and careful with pulls, and our runs would take 4+ hours. Then one day, we got a server reset message just after Garr's room. The "safe" option would be to log off in the tunnel between Garr and Geddon; instead, we decided to push for the hall just below Majordomo. We made it with minimal casualties, had a TON of fun, and our runs after that were closer to 2 hour clears.

The sense of accomplishment at the end was amazing too - it's not just the same old, same old farming run.. Pushing beyond what you think is possible is amazing. :) I definitely want to play with players who always try to push the envelope, and have FUN doing it, not just plod through the same old mediocre raids week after week.

The epic achievement is making me want to spend my DKP for Envoy of Mortality on my warrior before all our hunters get it. :???:

Ah at last back to the old awesome DYS!

I know exactly what you're on about, although I experienced it before achievements hit. Plodding through Kara back in TBC and suddenly "Server restart in 15 minutes" comes up. Since it was a tuesday night, we knew there was no way the raid would reform after the restart, so we decided to stretch ourselves a little.

Curator was around the corner, and my guild back then tended to be pretty slow. But we thought we'd push our skills and gear to the limits while having a laugh, and try for Prince... Didn't get there, but we skipped Netherspite out and destroyed Chess, and I can honestly say I've never had a better 15 minutes in WoW or any other game.

Even the slowpoke GM who can't stand chain pulling tanks was laughing away in Vent... it was a really great atmosphere, and going for an achievement with a full guild run has the same effect; everyone squeezing every last dps out of their gear and just out to have a good time, regardless of whether you reach that goal.

I've always been of the opinion WoW is meant to be played hardcore. Even if, like me, you only have the time to commit as a casual raider, that's no reason not to act like you're tearing through endgame. Lowbie raids can be a whole lot of fun too, you just have to put the effort in and enjoy every last minute, and the achievement system makes that a lot less effort.

There is no achievement specificly for this, (though "Less is More" would if it hasen't been done) but a few weeks ago me and some friends of mine decided to 5 man regular OS. It has to be one of the most fun times I have had, and it is very exciting! To be honest, the mini-bosses were harder then Sarth! Achievements set goals to complete. If you have achievements on farm, there is no reason not to test yourself and see if you can go beyond it! I highly recomend turning your farmed achievements into something new and exciting again by incresing the dificulty of it. (time, # of players, allowing certian aspects of the fight to challenge you, exc.)
