Herbalism has got to be one of the SLOWEST professions to level!

You said "nothing is easier to level than herbalism." Well I have no idea how you can go from 1 to 350 in 2 - 4 hours? The only way to level herbalism is to pick flowers. Thats a lot of running around.

Mining is WAY easier to level. Simply goto the AH and buy ore then smelt it and gain profession points. What could be easier than that?

I can go from 1 to 350 in one hour or less!

About your having more than one account... In order for what you are saying to work, you would need to be constantly moving toons from one realm to another, every time you needed to supply your main. That's a lot of $25 character moves! You must be rich!

Just a clarification re JC Prismatic gems and your comments in this and last post. [example refers to SP for the toons that cares about SP, but the idea holds for others attributes] Yes the prismatics are 19 SP better than the red RSR (runed scarlet ruby) they replace. But the slightly less obvious advantage is the prismatic. If you have non-red sockets then you either have gems that are less than 19 SP or you put RSR but are losing the socket bonus. Putting the prismatic in place of a gem that is not a RSR will give you more than 19 SP increase; replacing a RSR in blue/yellow socket will give you the +19SP plus the socket bonus. Similarly, in the prismatic belt slot you always put RSR or whatever is your best gem.

@ Femorill
yes you can do that! better yet to save the transfer cost i applied the following trick (be aware wont always work but try it on a regular basis if it fails)

** mini guide **
1. on a server where your main (not a dk) is make a dk
2. level it to level 60 -lets call this one A-
3. delete this toon (be sure to write the name down)
4. create a new dk (can be either) -lets call this one B-
5. level toon to 60
6. now the tricky part: open a ticket on your main and request a character restoration of the first DK (A) be sure to state in the ticket that you had that DK transferred to that server -leave out paid transferred that will get you in trouble-
7. another tricky part: go offline and dont log on for a few hours (gm's will /w you serverwide and we do not want that)
8. if all went well when you log in again you have 2 dk's (A+B) on one server.
** end mini guide**

Actually i did this as my little experiment and ended up with 5(!) DK's on one server and since im a sucker for horde chars i now got them all leveling them faster the lightning and making tons of cash making use of all the available proffessions.

"By the way, JC dailies start at 375 JC skill at level 77! NOT level 70."

Actually, my level 71 paladin hasn't done anything except JC dailies (and the rare other quest in the area) since arriving in Northrend. She is 450 JC now too, but started the dailies at lower skill (over 375, but can't remember exactly). Almost all of them can be done in Howling Fjord; there's one that the lowest zone for is Dragonblight - but still doable at 70.

I've got at least one of every profession on my account (multiple 70+), and I love the interconnectedness and self-sufficiency. Inscription vellums were the perfect last piece of the puzzle in never having to rely on another player for anything.

Now I just need to get my second miner to 77 so she can efficiently farm Northrend ore, and I'll be all set to switch my main from mining/BS to BS/JC. Second miner is an engi too, so farming on her is doubly good for elemental stuff.

Just letting you know that, unless something has changed within the last couple of days, you can become a Grand Master in a profession at lvl 55 not 60. My lock just hit 55 and she's a Grand Master in both alchemy and herbalism.

Exactly what I'm doing. You made me realize to "waste" the DK. I don't really want them at 80 because I'm not a real fan of them, but the perk to ride 20% faster makes it a superior gatherer. This way I don't have to waste a slot to mining or herbing on my main, and I'm still having a nice income if I wish to farm. My main can get the professions that give raiding perks (alchemy, BS, enchanting, JC or inscription) + tailoring to provide bags for my alts (I leveled tailoring anyway, so I might just keep it).

By the way, JC dailies start at 375 JC skill at level 77! NOT level 70.

But otherwise the advice is sound, I use Mining and JC on my DK, so crafting epics through guildies, or my BS alt is really easy, plus I get so much ore flying around ice-crown for half hour that I never have to buy any gems (and Icy Prism sometimes drops Dragon's Eye too, which is nice).
I think as a Death Knight this is a great combo, as the amount of times I have to respec between DPS and Tanking, and with all the gear I have that i'm constantly regemming, mining helps to make this effortless, and free.

I am actually using all 10 character slots too, all 70 or higher; self-crafting from any professions saves you loads of time and gold, you just have to find the time to go herbing/skinning/mining in between raiding & heroics etc...
