Gavin Garrett’s 1-80 In-Game Leveling Guide
Posted on November 8th, 2008 by Lawbringer under Faster Leveling, Gold Farming, World of Warcraft, WotLK
WotLK goes live on November 13th and a lot of our subscribers who have been paying attention to our advice have been waiting for this post for weeks.
We’ve been leveling in the beta from the very beginning, and we know it backwards and forwards now. We’ve run through virtually every quest in Northrend, and tested and re-tested routes and completion order many times in the process.
We’ve been telling you for a while that WotLK is almost like a whole new game. I’ve spent the last four years playing this game, and we’ve never seen a content expansion like this, the Burning Crusade doesn’t even come close. Northrend is massive, and the leap in the amount of experience you need to go from one level to another is monstrous. With thousands of new quests, and the new way Blizz designed the quest hubs, it can be mind-boggling if you don’t know what to do.
I know how to level fast, so fast that I now hold the world record time from 1-70, and I want to give all of our readers the same paths I took all the way to level 80 so you can be prepared ahead of time. Leveling to 80 is much harder than anything we’ve ever done solo, bar none.
When I sat down to write this guide, I didn’t want just another also-ran guide like all of the other ones out there. Leveling guides are everywhere and they just aren’t that good for a number of reasons. How can you even follow a guide that has you picking up more than 25 quests at a time? There is one very popular guide that does that more than once - and that is way below our standards at DYS.
So we put our heads together and our noses to the grindstone, and after more than 6 months and hundreds of hours of work, we have the very best leveling guide you will ever see. Not only that, it works right in the game! Gavin Garrett’s in-game leveling guide mod shows you exactly what to do, where to do it, and guides your through the exact same paths Gavin himself used so you can squeeze every last second out of your played time all the way to 80.
Here Are A Few Of The Things You Get In Gavin Garrett’s Leveling Guide:
·
- In-Game Mod - This makes the guide worth more than the price all by itself. You’ll never have to alt-tab to look at some other page or print out a guide again.
- Floating Way-point Arrow - The arrow points you to the precise location you need to go next. You never have to run around looking for a single mob or NPC ever again.
- Back Doors - I did every quest so many times that I can show you paths and ways to get to many locations that will help you avoid dozens of mobs so you can grab the quest item or named mob in record time.
- Fastest Quest Order - It’s one thing to do a guide with a bunch of quests, but there has never been a guide that can lead you through hundreds of quests in the most efficient order possible.
- Traveling Strategies - I’ve even included my unique hearthstone points so that you can cut down on a ton of travel time. This one set of things can shave hours off your time to 80.
- Class Quests - The guide even ‘reads’ your toon class and rockets you through every class quest you really need to do, and skips the ones you don’t
- Quest Tips and Tricks - Every single step has the very best tips I use to complete each quest in record time. Just mouseover the step to see what I do to Dominate every single one.
- All The Way To 80 - As bad as some of the other guides are when it comes to old content just to 70 - can you really believe that they will be worth anything for the new 70-80 content? Gavin’s Leveling guide will take you from 70-80 in the same Dominating way it took you from 1-70.
This beauty is that this is not just a leveling guide; It’s an in-game personal tutorial that will guide you all the way through the game so you can completely Dominate in /played time. With this guide by your side, it won’t matter how many other people on your server are vying for the fastest time to 80 – you’ll constantly be one step ahead of them.
Gavin’s Guide Shows You:
- Every quest you should accept, and every one you shouldn’t; you will never waste time on low drop rates again.
- When to run to a new zone and ditch the last few things in your current zone. Don’t spend four hours finishing up a zone when you can get more experience in one hour by moving on.
- How to navigate the enormous Northrend zones. Northrend zones are massive, Gavin’s guide will have you clearing them in record time with no wasted traveling.
- How to beat the hardest quests in WotLK. I’ll show you back-doors, hard-to-find quest hubs, and strategies for soloing 2 player quests that will get you even more xp per hour and some awesome blue quest reward items to rocket you past the competition.
I know there are lots of other leveling guides out there. I’ve already seen most of them and you know what? They suck. They use poor traveling routes, spend too much time in the wrong zones, waste time on bad quests and are just flat out poorly written, and NONE of them are faster. We have a saying here at the DYS office – “you can do the best you can, or you can be the best there is.” My leveling Guide is the best there is…

Even though we played the Beta diligently, there will be some changes with coming patches. Gavin I Would Like to thank you guys for the excellent guide and the advice given around the AH. . .and am waiting expectantly for the more general gold making guide and levelling guide!!!

Gavin, i just got done reading your inscription guide and ive never paid for a guide for warcraft before but i have to say, this is awesome!!!!! Thanks for everything you do!
Daryl Says:
Hey Gavin, I just bought the Guide and I tell you this thing must have taken you forever! I hope you don’t have another job because I don’t think there is ANY way for you to get any sleep otherwise. I appriciate all the hard work.

Without a doubt this guide is essential! In addition to Gavin’s and Lawbringer’s words of wisdom I have been doing some additonal research on my own (referance inscription) and the info they put out today isn’t common knowledge on the street at all. Its packed with all kinds of little gems of info that will ensure you maximize your profits. Without it you might make some serious errors come patch-day! This is the most if not the ONLY comprehensive guide out there. On a scale of 1 to 10 this is a definitive 10! Worth every penny!
“Nobody” Commented:
This guide is nothing short of amazing. It consists of where you need to train, what to train, where to pick herbs, and what/how to sell for the best profits. It may be really in-depth, but that is because these guys have put together every little detail you need to know and more. I can’t imagine the time spent on this.
Koyote Said:
Just got the guide and I’m blown away by the step by step details. Also, great for planning what herbs I need. I had a lot of misconceptions based on other guides, such as the WoW forums etc…I found that I overstocked herbs on some and had at least one type of pigment that I didn’t have enough of. Huge surprise as I thought for sure I had enough. I would have been caught out paying through the nose to stock up on that ink to level further. Time to hit the farming again before patch to get what I need. Great guide, would recommend to anyone not on Dath’Remar (that’s the server I am going to dominate lol). 2 Thumbs up on $7 well spent. Thanks.

I have been subscribed to your articles for months now, and I have always found that they come very handy. Im Ashamed to admit that i used to think you were a scammer, it wasnt untill you recently posted this article that I decided to test drive your guides. I was preparing myself for a scam, untill i received and read your Inscription leveling guide. And I never thought i would actually be replying with good comments about it, I seriously had the impression that you wrote all of these comments about your guide to yourself to make you look more legit. But this has got to be the best guide i have ever seen, and i am very impressed, i thought i was prepared for inscription bit i was wrong, not untill this guide have i really been ready for inscription. I am also much more confident on using the AH. To anyone that is considering buying this guide, i highly reccomend it. It is only foolish to miss this oppurtunity, this window into lots of gold. And gavin and his team have showed us how to take full advantage of it. Thank you so much.

I found the guide I purchased to be invaluable really. Saved me a lot of time (and it took a good 3 hours to go from 1-368 and I had all the herbs in stock) The sweet spot herbs as predicted by DYS where indeed the ones. Countless people in trade chat WTB Fadeleaf/Khadgars/Gold Thorn. I chuckled to myself as I looked at my lovely 50 or so stacks (double what i originally had saved before reading the guide) Total from all Glyph sales after about 60 hours is about 8k and i still have about half of my herbs left.
There is simply no serious competition for a Gavin Garrett Guide - how many other guys hold the World leveling record? Only one. I went out there and blew them all away, and now it’s your turn to follow me all the way to 80. No other guide makes it this smooth and easy. And you don’t have to be a pro. Even someone with limited experience and below average gear will be able to level faster than almost everyone else because you will know exactly where to go and what to do in the very best order to run off and leave even the T6 guys - IF you let Gavin show you the way.
Even though my leveling Guide will be the one mod you will never want to live without, we’re not charging a fortune for it. We are going to make the same deal for all of our DYS readers just like we did for the Inscription Guide.
You can get Gavin Garrett’s 1-80 Leveling Guide right now for only Half Price. A FULL 50% off - only for DYS readers! The regular price for this can’t-do-without guide is $47. But for the next few days, you can get the best leveling guide available at any price for just $23.50. Remember, that price includes free updates, and your purchase is covered by our 30-day, 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Got the guide the other day thought it was just another one of those ones that don’t live up……but man was i wrong….this would have to be the easiest guide that i have used and trust me i have used a few….some quests co-ords need looking into but overall would reccomend this to all…
in the process of getting our whole guild involved with this…..job well done guys……
Hi bought the guide, downloaded to proper file but doesnt work! said something about enabling tom tom and guide in addons screen. where exactly is this screen? how do I access it? have emailed gavins twice in past 2 weeks -no reply yet. help, anyone?
When you first log on (before you ‘Enter Realm’ with your toon), there’ll be an “Add Ons” button on the lower right of your screen. Click the button and enable Tom Tom and the Guide (and anything else you need). You may need to check the box for ‘loading out of date add-ons’ as well…
Is this guide for either alliance and horde or is it horde only? The picture at the top says Gavins Horde Guide, so just wanted to be sure. Thanks, Daryl
yea it horde only i bought it cause it a great deal. also i thought that it might have some alliance stuff but it does not. i have a few horde char none are level 20 yet but with this guide it might make we level them up. But if Gavin decides to make an alliance leveling guide he just make it an update.
Wow, the guide is amazing. I have been trying to level up my warlock to 70 and he was about 5 bars into 69 today before I bought the guide. A couple hours later I hit 70. He is my 4th 70 and I was kind of having trouble staying motivated levelling him, but with the guide I was able to get it done easily. Thanks for all the effort you put into the guide, and thanks for giving DYS readers a discount again!
I like it overall, I love the setup and the general idea behind it and I know you guys put a lot of hours overtime to get it out for us when you did, overall its excellent, very user friendly and such. Needs some work on certain quests coordinates (which I will email to you) thanks for getting the guide out! Will see you guys online next week.
On this issue - the map coordinates are not wrong. There seems to be a conflict between TomTom and certain map mods such as Cartographer. Normally, you can open your world map, then close it and the coords will reset from TomTom to the right spot. Of course, the best thing to do is disable any other map mods you have running until this gets worked out in a later release.
Gavin,
I got the Guide (don’t I always) last night and have two “install” questions.
1. The TomTom in your package is listed as version 176. All the versions for Tom Tom on the download sites are listed as version r176. Do I need to be using yours or can I let WoW Matrix update TomTom to r176?
2. Are you going to just publish your updates individually to subscribers, use your web site, or use some add-on web sites or tools?
Thanks
Those are the same version (unless he modified it).
“176″ is the same as “r176″; the “r” mean “release”, that’s all.
wow.. 23 bucks.. i was going to get it since i got the inscription one. too bad its horde only. ill get it when there is an ally version..
Sounds excellent, but I have one teeny question.
I’m levelling a horde pally with a friend, so obviously I won’t be questing solo, which means my experience from killing mobs gets drastically cut. And since we’re both already level 21, we won’t be starting from the beginning.
Does the guide account for this? Will it pick me up with a few areas clear or half-clear, work out what to do, and guide me on? Or will I end up being asked to do red group quests just because I haven’t kept up to the expected level (because I lose experience from killing mobs)?
I’d love to invest in a decent levelling guide, but I’m reluctant to splash out (even with the money back guarantee), so if you can reassure me that I can pick up my character as he stands and 2-man it all the way to 80 without ever getting stuck for something to do, I’m in!
(I know, I should be RAFing it, but I’m way too dirt cheap)
Hi Tamathia,
The guide cannot detect what you’ve already done (there’s no way we’ve found to access that info through the addon system), so you’ll need to load up the appropriate guide for your level, and manually check off what you’ve already done. However, from that point on, it’s really a breeze.
As for 2-manning it, you should be just fine. Lawbringer and I will be duoing Northrend together using the guide. As long as Blizz doesn’t significantly change mob XP or quest XP from what they were in the beta, it should be smooth sailing.
-Gavin
is ther gonna be an ally one? I am a rlly slow lvler partly because i find lvling boring but i know more about alli than horde, too much to change faction, so will ther ever be an allly one?
ty
Elfofdark (Jack) Quel Tha’las
Um, i’d like to get this guide but i have no horde characters, and leveling one from scratch for the sake of the guide seems silly. any plans on an alliance version for the same price? i’d like to get them to 80 ASAP.
are you gonna make a ally one cos for 23 bucks thats amazing. so hurry up with ally one please and would be an update for the horde one or a new stand alone guide?
I’m a die-hard Alliance player, cmon Gavin, 3 days till Wrath and you’re giving Horde a jumpstart like this? I just want to QQ a bit about it :*(
Anaraya - NE Druid Frostmane
Mwahaha! I’ve been telling you guys for 2 years that I’m a die-hard Hordie… I even got Lawbringer to switch!
Because of the QQ from all you alliance guys, I’m pretty sure that we’re going to go ahead and do an alliance leveling guide… but it would be awhile before it’s ready.
Is there anyone that could post up a screen shot somewhere of what this mod looks like in-game? If so; thanks in advance.
I bought the leveling guide for inscription and have to say it has been a huge helper in my money making. I’ve made about 18k since the patch. All on Inscription. I’m definitly set for whatever I need to purchase as I level to 80 on both my toons. I am disappointed there is no Alliance guide, was psyched when I read that you had the leveling guide and disappointed when I read Horde only. *sigh* Hopefully you will get the Alliance one done before LK is release. Am looking forward to it.
WoW this sounds good. I haev bought a few guides, including sum very respectable ones and frankly I was disgusted at their lack of enjoyment. I bought a lvling guide to focus my fun a little more. I actually hated lvling using the best known ones for alliance and Horde. I am holding off though since I am an Ally. I recon ill do well though ^^. I have a natural talent for doing this kidna lvling pve stuff.
my workload atm has just sjkyrocketed which is good and also bad. I’m going to haev maybe a few hours at weekends now
I sense I will be lagging behind everyone)
o and QQ from me
i would Like to Say at this point that it seems to be horde who always go die hard hardcore and ally who go for soft casual play. Seems the case on my server. Raids are just entertainment really. No sweat lol
I will be looking foward to the allience leveling guide!
This guide is AMAZING!!
It’s tells you where to go, every step of the way. The instructions are detailed, and you can never go wrong, really. So glad I bought it. £15 well spent!
Bendy Walkers last blog post..Episode 12 - Necrophiliac Xylophone Comity
Well, I bought it, downloaded it, it looks awesome to be honest ^^
Buttt couldn’t help noticing there’s nothing between level 20 and 26 - is this a mistake? Only it’s advertised as 1-80 horde levelling guide, not 1-20 and 26-80…
I wouldn’t mind, only I’ve got a belf pally at level 21 who’s looking for somewhere to go level.
There is a guide segment for 20-26, just check the list again. We wouldn’t leave a big hole like this after 6 months of work!
I bought your guide and I noticed the same thing. the guide I downloaded does not have a lvl 20-26 segment. I have gone through it 4 times and it skips that section of the lvling process. maybe a error?
You’re both right. The guides are there in the package, but a typo in one of the mod files prevented them from showing up on the guide selection screen. Redownload from the link in the email and you should be good to go.
ya i bought and downloaded the in game guide aswell and mine has nothing between levels 20 and 26 also. is this maybe a bug or glitch?
Oh, boooooo on this being Horde-only. I had my credit card ready-to-go even. Please show us Ally folks some love?
dang i wish i had a way t pay for this but i am not old enough to have a credit card or paypal or anything
If you go to like a safeway or something they have Pre-paid debit cards. its lik $8 bucks to activate them plus however much. thats how i get this stuff done. i think they go as low as $25
I was really excited when i was reading this! then i read it was only for the horde
now when the expansion comes out the alli will be struggling while the horde are way beyond us!
We don’t ever do anything if we can’t do it better than anyone else. we only want our readers to have something they can say was well worth the time to read or the money to get.
So when we decided to begin leveling guides it took a while to get the Horde version to 70 with all the speed runs and test runs we needed to do to make sure it was perfect. Then there was the Beta, which took way longer than the regular content because of bugs, server downtime, etc., etc. etc.
We do have some major sections of an Ally version already in the works, but we simply will not release it until it is jsut as good as the Horde guide. But you can look forward to seeing this one from us possibly around the first of the year. It just takes time to get it just right.
I am having the same problem as Tamathia, my guide does not have a lvl 20-26 segment. maybe another error or glitch?
First let me say I like the look of the guide and the config is easy enough. However I do not find anything for the Tauren starting area. I have a Druid that has been stuck at 8 for some time and was looking forward to leveling him… am I missing something ?
Gotta admit I’m an ally guy who has played off and on, and when I say off and on I mean off and on, since preBC but have just dinged 70 two weeks ago. See what I mean by really off and on, college and other priorities over WoW for me. And I was just wondering since an ally version of the walkthrough isn’t going to come out for a while if there were some tips or anything that you can give us ally guys to dominate our server and atleast stay in the dust behind the horde guys.
Possible Bug/Error:
Levels 21-25 and 29-30 are completely missing. I tried reinstalling, and tried reloading my UI. They’re definitely not there.
Yes, there was a typo that prevented a couple of the guides from showing up in the guide selection window. This has now been fixed. You can redownload the guide to get the update.
WOW WOW WOW i decided to test this guide eairler and you out did yourselves i lvled a warr 1-20 in 5 hours with no problems though theres no 21-26 or 28-31
Redownload the guide - we’ve fixed the typos that caused the 21-26 and 28-31 sections to not show up.
-Gavin
Looks like nothing for the Tauren starting area at all. Looks like the same things missing as everyone else too. Great package though.
Looks like I’m going to have to dig out the old paypal account.. haha
You can pay with a credit card and forgo using PayPal.
Hi DYS,
Is there any more news of whats happening with the downloadable WoTLK file for those of us who bought CD keys via you guys/offgamers? Dont think ive seen it mentioned for almost a month.
thanks!
I already bought your 1-70 Alliance leveling guide, and I have really enjoyed using it. It came with guarantee that I would get updates forever. Does that include the “update” to level 80 whenever you get around to doing the Alliance 1-80 guide?
Hi Explicity,
I’ve never made an Alliance guide. I’ve recommended a couple over the years, but they were made by other people. You’ll need to get in touch with the creator of the guide that you have to see when their 70-80 update will be coming out.
QQQQ…. I can’t wait for the alliance version! I enjoyed your perfectly written incription guide. I wanted to join your guild, but the lag was intolerable on that server to me, unfortunately.
Bought mine just for leveling up my little tauren ranger in the Domination clan on Fenris.
Cordially,
Phidelt
You should release the ally leveling guide at the same time you get the ally guild going that would be nice.
i have already purchased you leveling guide 1-70 for the alliance and inscription guide, when you do come out with the leveling guide 1-80 for the alliance, will i have to repurchase the guide or is it part of the free updates
Hi John,
We’ve never made an Alliance guide. We have recommended a couple over the years, but we’ve never made one ourselves. You’ll need to get in touch with the creator of the guide you purchased to see when his 1-80 guide will be available.
-Gavin
I am really irritated–I assumed that the guide was for both factions–wrong again. How do I get my money back?
Do not misunderstand–I am not irritated at ya’ll–I am irritated at myself because I didn’t check it before I bought it. Since the payment has already gone through, and I haven’t received the email with the download information, how do I get a refund on a guide that clearly is not going to help me since I am Alliance?
This is a Horde leveling guide, and it’s clearly marked at the top of the thread post. I can understand people missing that and accidentally purchasing it thinking it covered both factions, but for crying out loud - Can people stop posting the same question over and over again?
Scroll through the comments, and you’ll see that the question was answered multiple times. Dys MAY make an Alliance guide and it MIGHT be out around January 1. There are other free Alliance guides out there for 70-80, and you’ll just have to make do with those for the time being. Gavin is a Hordie through and through. Can we get on with the discussion now, sheesh.
Hey Gavin, just a quick question. Roughly how long in /played time are we looking at to get from 70-80? I’m sure it will vary significantly from person to person, but can you give an estimate on the time it will take when using your guide?
The Beta was so buggy that we actually have a little trouble deciding how long this is going to take for everyone. But here’s my educated guess:
The average player without a guide will probably take around 10 hours to complete a level, which means something like 4 days /played time from 70-80. Yes, it’s really going to take most people as long to go from 70-80 as it took them to do 1-70.
A good player with great gear should be able to nearly shave a day off of that time and get it done in about 80 hours, or 8 hours a level. From there, it’s a little hard to tell just HOW fast a good player with good gear can get it done WITH our guide. Our speed run was hampered by server downtime, quests that were bugged, mobs that were bugged, mobs that didn’t exist and should have, new quests appearing, changes in how quests worked, you name it.
But, I imagine that we should be able to get the total time to 80 under 3 days played using this quest order. We will even be able to make any efficiency modifications we need to as we run several toons to 80 when the game goes live and everything is working the way it should. Some things in the Beta never worked right, and so it was hard to know whether to add them or not since we could not even complete them because they were broken.
We are actually a little surprised that they feel like they can release WotLK now, since there seemed to be still so many things wrong when the Beta closed last week. It’s going to be interesting to say the least.
So the short answer is that with the guide and some skill you should be able to complete 70-80 in about 72 hours fairly easily, the true test is going to come on Friday morning when Gavin and I set the mark for you, so stay tuned for our report on the live leveling time the first of next week!
Not sure if you want errors reported here or elsewhere…
The quest “Yerokkar Forest” says to go to 32.7, 5.5. The proper coordinates are 82,92.
Also, I had the direction arrow when I started, but it is not showing now. Any idea how to get it back? (I turned off the world map cursor stuff since it overlapped other map displays, and might have done something I don’t see at that time?)
When in doubt, RTFM. Check out ReadMe.pdf, you can get a waypoint arrow by typing in chat window… /WAY 82 92
HTH
The coords are correct in the guide. The (32.7,5.5) coord is the coord inside Terokkar Forest. When you get that step, you’re in Zangarmarsh, so you are thinking in Zangarmarsh coords.
If your arrow were working, you’d see it pointing to 32.7,5.5 in Terokkar
-Gavin
There is a simple solution to most of the problems i’ve read about this guide. Roll a horde char.
FOR THE HORDE!
