Gavin Garrett’s 1-80 In-Game Leveling Guide
Posted on November 8th, 2008 by Lawbringer under Faster Leveling, Gold Farming, World of Warcraft, WotLK
WotLK goes live on November 13th and a lot of our subscribers who have been paying attention to our advice have been waiting for this post for weeks.
We’ve been leveling in the beta from the very beginning, and we know it backwards and forwards now. We’ve run through virtually every quest in Northrend, and tested and re-tested routes and completion order many times in the process.
We’ve been telling you for a while that WotLK is almost like a whole new game. I’ve spent the last four years playing this game, and we’ve never seen a content expansion like this, the Burning Crusade doesn’t even come close. Northrend is massive, and the leap in the amount of experience you need to go from one level to another is monstrous. With thousands of new quests, and the new way Blizz designed the quest hubs, it can be mind-boggling if you don’t know what to do.
I know how to level fast, so fast that I now hold the world record time from 1-70, and I want to give all of our readers the same paths I took all the way to level 80 so you can be prepared ahead of time. Leveling to 80 is much harder than anything we’ve ever done solo, bar none.
When I sat down to write this guide, I didn’t want just another also-ran guide like all of the other ones out there. Leveling guides are everywhere and they just aren’t that good for a number of reasons. How can you even follow a guide that has you picking up more than 25 quests at a time? There is one very popular guide that does that more than once – and that is way below our standards at DYS.
So we put our heads together and our noses to the grindstone, and after more than 6 months and hundreds of hours of work, we have the very best leveling guide you will ever see. Not only that, it works right in the game! Gavin Garrett’s in-game leveling guide mod shows you exactly what to do, where to do it, and guides your through the exact same paths Gavin himself used so you can squeeze every last second out of your played time all the way to 80.
Here Are A Few Of The Things You Get In Gavin Garrett’s Leveling Guide:
·
- In-Game Mod – This makes the guide worth more than the price all by itself. You’ll never have to alt-tab to look at some other page or print out a guide again.
- Floating Way-point Arrow – The arrow points you to the precise location you need to go next. You never have to run around looking for a single mob or NPC ever again.
- Back Doors – I did every quest so many times that I can show you paths and ways to get to many locations that will help you avoid dozens of mobs so you can grab the quest item or named mob in record time.
- Fastest Quest Order – It’s one thing to do a guide with a bunch of quests, but there has never been a guide that can lead you through hundreds of quests in the most efficient order possible.
- Traveling Strategies – I’ve even included my unique hearthstone points so that you can cut down on a ton of travel time. This one set of things can shave hours off your time to 80.
- Class Quests – The guide even ‘reads’ your toon class and rockets you through every class quest you really need to do, and skips the ones you don’t
- Quest Tips and Tricks – Every single step has the very best tips I use to complete each quest in record time. Just mouseover the step to see what I do to Dominate every single one.
- All The Way To 80 – As bad as some of the other guides are when it comes to old content just to 70 – can you really believe that they will be worth anything for the new 70-80 content? Gavin’s Leveling guide will take you from 70-80 in the same Dominating way it took you from 1-70.
This beauty is that this is not just a leveling guide; It’s an in-game personal tutorial that will guide you all the way through the game so you can completely Dominate in /played time. With this guide by your side, it won’t matter how many other people on your server are vying for the fastest time to 80 – you’ll constantly be one step ahead of them.
Gavin’s Guide Shows You:
- Every quest you should accept, and every one you shouldn’t; you will never waste time on low drop rates again.
- When to run to a new zone and ditch the last few things in your current zone. Don’t spend four hours finishing up a zone when you can get more experience in one hour by moving on.
- How to navigate the enormous Northrend zones. Northrend zones are massive, Gavin’s guide will have you clearing them in record time with no wasted traveling.
- How to beat the hardest quests in WotLK. I’ll show you back-doors, hard-to-find quest hubs, and strategies for soloing 2 player quests that will get you even more xp per hour and some awesome blue quest reward items to rocket you past the competition.
I know there are lots of other leveling guides out there. I’ve already seen most of them and you know what? They suck. They use poor traveling routes, spend too much time in the wrong zones, waste time on bad quests and are just flat out poorly written, and NONE of them are faster. We have a saying here at the DYS office – “you can do the best you can, or you can be the best there is.” My leveling Guide is the best there is…

Even though we played the Beta diligently, there will be some changes with coming patches. The Beta was still incredibly buggy when it finally closed and as a result we may add some things when they are proven to work well so we’ll update the Guide regularly. Gavin I Would Like to thank you guys for the excellent guide and the advice given around the AH. . .and am waiting expectantly for the more general gold making guide and levelling guide!!!

Gavin, i just got done reading your inscription guide and ive never paid for a guide for warcraft before but i have to say, this is awesome!!!!! Thanks for everything you do!
Daryl Says:
Hey Gavin, I just bought the Guide and I tell you this thing must have taken you forever! I hope you don’t have another job because I don’t think there is ANY way for you to get any sleep otherwise. I appriciate all the hard work.

Without a doubt this guide is essential! In addition to Gavin’s and Lawbringer’s words of wisdom I have been doing some additonal research on my own (referance inscription) and the info they put out today isn’t common knowledge on the street at all. Its packed with all kinds of little gems of info that will ensure you maximize your profits. Without it you might make some serious errors come patch-day! This is the most if not the ONLY comprehensive guide out there. On a scale of 1 to 10 this is a definitive 10! Worth every penny!
“Nobody” Commented:
This guide is nothing short of amazing. It consists of where you need to train, what to train, where to pick herbs, and what/how to sell for the best profits. It may be really in-depth, but that is because these guys have put together every little detail you need to know and more. I can’t imagine the time spent on this.
Koyote Said:
Just got the guide and I’m blown away by the step by step details. Also, great for planning what herbs I need. I had a lot of misconceptions based on other guides, such as the WoW forums etc…I found that I overstocked herbs on some and had at least one type of pigment that I didn’t have enough of. Huge surprise as I thought for sure I had enough. I would have been caught out paying through the nose to stock up on that ink to level further. Time to hit the farming again before patch to get what I need. Great guide, would recommend to anyone not on Dath’Remar (that’s the server I am going to dominate lol). 2 Thumbs up on $7 well spent. Thanks.

I have been subscribed to your articles for months now, and I have always found that they come very handy. Im Ashamed to admit that i used to think you were a scammer, it wasnt untill you recently posted this article that I decided to test drive your guides. I was preparing myself for a scam, untill i received and read your Inscription leveling guide. And I never thought i would actually be replying with good comments about it, I seriously had the impression that you wrote all of these comments about your guide to yourself to make you look more legit. But this has got to be the best guide i have ever seen, and i am very impressed, i thought i was prepared for inscription bit i was wrong, not untill this guide have i really been ready for inscription. I am also much more confident on using the AH. To anyone that is considering buying this guide, i highly reccomend it. It is only foolish to miss this oppurtunity, this window into lots of gold. And gavin and his team have showed us how to take full advantage of it. Thank you so much.

I found the guide I purchased to be invaluable really. Saved me a lot of time (and it took a good 3 hours to go from 1-368 and I had all the herbs in stock) The sweet spot herbs as predicted by DYS where indeed the ones. Countless people in trade chat WTB Fadeleaf/Khadgars/Gold Thorn. I chuckled to myself as I looked at my lovely 50 or so stacks (double what i originally had saved before reading the guide) Total from all Glyph sales after about 60 hours is about 8k and i still have about half of my herbs left.
There is simply no serious competition for a Gavin Garrett Guide – how many other guys hold the World leveling record? Only one. I went out there and blew them all away, and now it’s your turn to follow me all the way to 80. No other guide makes it this smooth and easy. And you don’t have to be a pro. Even someone with limited experience and below average gear will be able to level faster than almost everyone else because you will know exactly where to go and what to do in the very best order to run off and leave even the T6 guys – IF you let Gavin show you the way.
Even though my leveling Guide will be the one mod you will never want to live without, we’re not charging a fortune for it. We are going to make the same deal for all of our DYS readers just like we did for the Inscription Guide.
You can get Gavin Garrett’s 1-80 Leveling Guide right now for only Half Price. A FULL 50% off – only for DYS readers! The regular price for this can’t-do-without guide is $47. Got the guide the other day thought it was just another one of those ones that don’t live up……but man was i wrong….this would have to be the easiest guide that i have used and trust me i have used a few….some quests co-ords need looking into but overall would reccomend this to all…
in the process of getting our whole guild involved with this…..job well done guys……
Hi bought the guide, downloaded to proper file but doesnt work! said something about enabling tom tom and guide in addons screen. where exactly is this screen? how do I access it? have emailed gavins twice in past 2 weeks -no reply yet. help, anyone?
When you first log on (before you ‘Enter Realm’ with your toon), there’ll be an “Add Ons” button on the lower right of your screen. Click the button and enable Tom Tom and the Guide (and anything else you need). You may need to check the box for ‘loading out of date add-ons’ as well…
Is this working for 3.1 yet?
Just got patch 3.2, and the guide’s stopped working
Is an update due out soon?
Is this guide for either alliance and horde or is it horde only? The picture at the top says Gavins Horde Guide, so just wanted to be sure. Thanks, Daryl
yea it horde only i bought it cause it a great deal. also i thought that it might have some alliance stuff but it does not. i have a few horde char none are level 20 yet but with this guide it might make we level them up. But if Gavin decides to make an alliance leveling guide he just make it an update.
Wow, the guide is amazing. I have been trying to level up my warlock to 70 and he was about 5 bars into 69 today before I bought the guide. A couple hours later I hit 70. He is my 4th 70 and I was kind of having trouble staying motivated levelling him, but with the guide I was able to get it done easily. Thanks for all the effort you put into the guide, and thanks for giving DYS readers a discount again!
I like it overall, I love the setup and the general idea behind it and I know you guys put a lot of hours overtime to get it out for us when you did, overall its excellent, very user friendly and such. Needs some work on certain quests coordinates (which I will email to you) thanks for getting the guide out! Will see you guys online next week.
On this issue – the map coordinates are not wrong. There seems to be a conflict between TomTom and certain map mods such as Cartographer. Normally, you can open your world map, then close it and the coords will reset from TomTom to the right spot. Of course, the best thing to do is disable any other map mods you have running until this gets worked out in a later release.
Gavin,
I got the Guide (don’t I always) last night and have two “install” questions.
1. The TomTom in your package is listed as version 176. All the versions for Tom Tom on the download sites are listed as version r176. Do I need to be using yours or can I let WoW Matrix update TomTom to r176?
2. Are you going to just publish your updates individually to subscribers, use your web site, or use some add-on web sites or tools?
Thanks
Those are the same version (unless he modified it).
“176″ is the same as “r176″; the “r” mean “release”, that’s all.
wow.. 23 bucks.. i was going to get it since i got the inscription one. too bad its horde only. ill get it when there is an ally version..
Sounds excellent, but I have one teeny question.
I’m levelling a horde pally with a friend, so obviously I won’t be questing solo, which means my experience from killing mobs gets drastically cut. And since we’re both already level 21, we won’t be starting from the beginning.
Does the guide account for this? Will it pick me up with a few areas clear or half-clear, work out what to do, and guide me on? Or will I end up being asked to do red group quests just because I haven’t kept up to the expected level (because I lose experience from killing mobs)?
I’d love to invest in a decent levelling guide, but I’m reluctant to splash out (even with the money back guarantee), so if you can reassure me that I can pick up my character as he stands and 2-man it all the way to 80 without ever getting stuck for something to do, I’m in!
(I know, I should be RAFing it, but I’m way too dirt cheap)
Hi Tamathia,
The guide cannot detect what you’ve already done (there’s no way we’ve found to access that info through the addon system), so you’ll need to load up the appropriate guide for your level, and manually check off what you’ve already done. However, from that point on, it’s really a breeze.
As for 2-manning it, you should be just fine. Lawbringer and I will be duoing Northrend together using the guide. As long as Blizz doesn’t significantly change mob XP or quest XP from what they were in the beta, it should be smooth sailing.
-Gavin
is ther gonna be an ally one? I am a rlly slow lvler partly because i find lvling boring but i know more about alli than horde, too much to change faction, so will ther ever be an allly one?
ty
Elfofdark (Jack) Quel Tha’las
Um, i’d like to get this guide but i have no horde characters, and leveling one from scratch for the sake of the guide seems silly. any plans on an alliance version for the same price? i’d like to get them to 80 ASAP.
are you gonna make a ally one cos for 23 bucks thats amazing. so hurry up with ally one please and would be an update for the horde one or a new stand alone guide?
I’m a die-hard Alliance player, cmon Gavin, 3 days till Wrath and you’re giving Horde a jumpstart like this? I just want to QQ a bit about it :*(
Anaraya – NE Druid Frostmane
Mwahaha! I’ve been telling you guys for 2 years that I’m a die-hard Hordie… I even got Lawbringer to switch!
Because of the QQ from all you alliance guys, I’m pretty sure that we’re going to go ahead and do an alliance leveling guide… but it would be awhile before it’s ready.
Is there anyone that could post up a screen shot somewhere of what this mod looks like in-game? If so; thanks in advance.
I bought the leveling guide for inscription and have to say it has been a huge helper in my money making. I’ve made about 18k since the patch. All on Inscription. I’m definitly set for whatever I need to purchase as I level to 80 on both my toons. I am disappointed there is no Alliance guide, was psyched when I read that you had the leveling guide and disappointed when I read Horde only. *sigh* Hopefully you will get the Alliance one done before LK is release. Am looking forward to it.
WoW this sounds good. I haev bought a few guides, including sum very respectable ones and frankly I was disgusted at their lack of enjoyment. I bought a lvling guide to focus my fun a little more. I actually hated lvling using the best known ones for alliance and Horde. I am holding off though since I am an Ally. I recon ill do well though ^^. I have a natural talent for doing this kidna lvling pve stuff.
my workload atm has just sjkyrocketed which is good and also bad. I’m going to haev maybe a few hours at weekends now
I sense I will be lagging behind everyone)
o and QQ from me
i would Like to Say at this point that it seems to be horde who always go die hard hardcore and ally who go for soft casual play. Seems the case on my server. Raids are just entertainment really. No sweat lol
I will be looking foward to the allience leveling guide!
This guide is AMAZING!!
It’s tells you where to go, every step of the way. The instructions are detailed, and you can never go wrong, really. So glad I bought it. £15 well spent!
Bendy Walkers last blog post..Episode 12 – Necrophiliac Xylophone Comity
Well, I bought it, downloaded it, it looks awesome to be honest ^^
Buttt couldn’t help noticing there’s nothing between level 20 and 26 – is this a mistake? Only it’s advertised as 1-80 horde levelling guide, not 1-20 and 26-80…
I wouldn’t mind, only I’ve got a belf pally at level 21 who’s looking for somewhere to go level.
There is a guide segment for 20-26, just check the list again. We wouldn’t leave a big hole like this after 6 months of work!
I bought your guide and I noticed the same thing. the guide I downloaded does not have a lvl 20-26 segment. I have gone through it 4 times and it skips that section of the lvling process. maybe a error?
You’re both right. The guides are there in the package, but a typo in one of the mod files prevented them from showing up on the guide selection screen. Redownload from the link in the email and you should be good to go.
ya i bought and downloaded the in game guide aswell and mine has nothing between levels 20 and 26 also. is this maybe a bug or glitch?
Oh, boooooo on this being Horde-only. I had my credit card ready-to-go even. Please show us Ally folks some love?
dang i wish i had a way t pay for this but i am not old enough to have a credit card or paypal or anything
If you go to like a safeway or something they have Pre-paid debit cards. its lik $8 bucks to activate them plus however much. thats how i get this stuff done. i think they go as low as $25
I was really excited when i was reading this! then i read it was only for the horde
now when the expansion comes out the alli will be struggling while the horde are way beyond us!
We don’t ever do anything if we can’t do it better than anyone else. we only want our readers to have something they can say was well worth the time to read or the money to get.
So when we decided to begin leveling guides it took a while to get the Horde version to 70 with all the speed runs and test runs we needed to do to make sure it was perfect. Then there was the Beta, which took way longer than the regular content because of bugs, server downtime, etc., etc. etc.
We do have some major sections of an Ally version already in the works, but we simply will not release it until it is jsut as good as the Horde guide. But you can look forward to seeing this one from us possibly around the first of the year. It just takes time to get it just right.
I am having the same problem as Tamathia, my guide does not have a lvl 20-26 segment. maybe another error or glitch?
First let me say I like the look of the guide and the config is easy enough. However I do not find anything for the Tauren starting area. I have a Druid that has been stuck at 8 for some time and was looking forward to leveling him… am I missing something ?
Gotta admit I’m an ally guy who has played off and on, and when I say off and on I mean off and on, since preBC but have just dinged 70 two weeks ago. See what I mean by really off and on, college and other priorities over WoW for me. And I was just wondering since an ally version of the walkthrough isn’t going to come out for a while if there were some tips or anything that you can give us ally guys to dominate our server and atleast stay in the dust behind the horde guys.
Possible Bug/Error:
Levels 21-25 and 29-30 are completely missing. I tried reinstalling, and tried reloading my UI. They’re definitely not there.
Yes, there was a typo that prevented a couple of the guides from showing up in the guide selection window. This has now been fixed. You can redownload the guide to get the update.
WOW WOW WOW i decided to test this guide eairler and you out did yourselves i lvled a warr 1-20 in 5 hours with no problems though theres no 21-26 or 28-31
Redownload the guide – we’ve fixed the typos that caused the 21-26 and 28-31 sections to not show up.
-Gavin
Looks like nothing for the Tauren starting area at all. Looks like the same things missing as everyone else too. Great package though.
Looks like I’m going to have to dig out the old paypal account.. haha
You can pay with a credit card and forgo using PayPal.
Hi DYS,
Is there any more news of whats happening with the downloadable WoTLK file for those of us who bought CD keys via you guys/offgamers? Dont think ive seen it mentioned for almost a month.
thanks!
I already bought your 1-70 Alliance leveling guide, and I have really enjoyed using it. It came with guarantee that I would get updates forever. Does that include the “update” to level 80 whenever you get around to doing the Alliance 1-80 guide?
Hi Explicity,
I’ve never made an Alliance guide. I’ve recommended a couple over the years, but they were made by other people. You’ll need to get in touch with the creator of the guide that you have to see when their 70-80 update will be coming out.
QQQQ…. I can’t wait for the alliance version! I enjoyed your perfectly written incription guide. I wanted to join your guild, but the lag was intolerable on that server to me, unfortunately.
Bought mine just for leveling up my little tauren ranger in the Domination clan on Fenris.
Cordially,
Phidelt
You should release the ally leveling guide at the same time you get the ally guild going that would be nice.
i have already purchased you leveling guide 1-70 for the alliance and inscription guide, when you do come out with the leveling guide 1-80 for the alliance, will i have to repurchase the guide or is it part of the free updates
Hi John,
We’ve never made an Alliance guide. We have recommended a couple over the years, but we’ve never made one ourselves. You’ll need to get in touch with the creator of the guide you purchased to see when his 1-80 guide will be available.
-Gavin
I am really irritated–I assumed that the guide was for both factions–wrong again. How do I get my money back?
Do not misunderstand–I am not irritated at ya’ll–I am irritated at myself because I didn’t check it before I bought it. Since the payment has already gone through, and I haven’t received the email with the download information, how do I get a refund on a guide that clearly is not going to help me since I am Alliance?
This is a Horde leveling guide, and it’s clearly marked at the top of the thread post. I can understand people missing that and accidentally purchasing it thinking it covered both factions, but for crying out loud – Can people stop posting the same question over and over again?
Scroll through the comments, and you’ll see that the question was answered multiple times. Dys MAY make an Alliance guide and it MIGHT be out around January 1. There are other free Alliance guides out there for 70-80, and you’ll just have to make do with those for the time being. Gavin is a Hordie through and through. Can we get on with the discussion now, sheesh.
Hey Gavin, just a quick question. Roughly how long in /played time are we looking at to get from 70-80? I’m sure it will vary significantly from person to person, but can you give an estimate on the time it will take when using your guide?
The Beta was so buggy that we actually have a little trouble deciding how long this is going to take for everyone. But here’s my educated guess:
The average player without a guide will probably take around 10 hours to complete a level, which means something like 4 days /played time from 70-80. Yes, it’s really going to take most people as long to go from 70-80 as it took them to do 1-70.
A good player with great gear should be able to nearly shave a day off of that time and get it done in about 80 hours, or 8 hours a level. From there, it’s a little hard to tell just HOW fast a good player with good gear can get it done WITH our guide. Our speed run was hampered by server downtime, quests that were bugged, mobs that were bugged, mobs that didn’t exist and should have, new quests appearing, changes in how quests worked, you name it.
But, I imagine that we should be able to get the total time to 80 under 3 days played using this quest order. We will even be able to make any efficiency modifications we need to as we run several toons to 80 when the game goes live and everything is working the way it should. Some things in the Beta never worked right, and so it was hard to know whether to add them or not since we could not even complete them because they were broken.
We are actually a little surprised that they feel like they can release WotLK now, since there seemed to be still so many things wrong when the Beta closed last week. It’s going to be interesting to say the least.
So the short answer is that with the guide and some skill you should be able to complete 70-80 in about 72 hours fairly easily, the true test is going to come on Friday morning when Gavin and I set the mark for you, so stay tuned for our report on the live leveling time the first of next week!
Not sure if you want errors reported here or elsewhere…
The quest “Yerokkar Forest” says to go to 32.7, 5.5. The proper coordinates are 82,92.
Also, I had the direction arrow when I started, but it is not showing now. Any idea how to get it back? (I turned off the world map cursor stuff since it overlapped other map displays, and might have done something I don’t see at that time?)
When in doubt, RTFM. Check out ReadMe.pdf, you can get a waypoint arrow by typing in chat window… /WAY 82 92
HTH
The coords are correct in the guide. The (32.7,5.5) coord is the coord inside Terokkar Forest. When you get that step, you’re in Zangarmarsh, so you are thinking in Zangarmarsh coords.
If your arrow were working, you’d see it pointing to 32.7,5.5 in Terokkar
-Gavin
There is a simple solution to most of the problems i’ve read about this guide. Roll a horde char.
FOR THE HORDE!
I’m so happy I found DYS.
I recently switched servers, I’ve given up all my other high level characters on my other servers. With help from the inscription guide, at level 42 I already have more gold on this one character then all my other 70’s combined.
But now i need to get this character to 70! no wait.. 80!! lol. and I was beginning to think that I was going to have to log my old characters just to see some of the new content. It’s been taking a lot longer then i remember to level this guy. I just bought the leveling guide, and I can already tell this is gonna get me FLYIN to level cap.
Thank you to gavin and the DYS team for helping to improve my wow experaince.. yet again.
May your blades never dull!
Glory to the horde
Bought the guide. Like it so far. 2 quesions though:
1) How are updates handled?
2) No Tauren starting area? I’ve noticed a couple of posts about it but haven’t seen a response yet. I assumed since Gavin is a Tauren himself it would be in there but I didn’t see it.
There were a couple of typos in the programming of the guide that have prevented some guide segments from showing in the list, but we will have those fixed before Wrath on Thursday.
i know the horde will be ahead of us alliance folk with this guide, and i know a lot of us are a bit stung by it, but people stop and think, do you really want to cry and whine, putting pressure on all the fine players working their butts off to make it easier for us, or can you manage to sit back and relax in the knowledge that when all the tests are completed, there will be an uber guide for us too. sure it may take a little more time, but that’s ok. i would much rather wait a little bit longer for a far better version, than attempt to rush someone and wind up with a less than perfect product. and my server is 85% horde anyways, so either way i look at it i’ll be behind in one way or another
just be glad that Gavin is going through all this trouble for you, and hey, maybe us alliance might stumble upon something useful to help speed things along. Ama the long-winded strikes a post with obscure points once again! muahahahahaa!
I play on two computers, depending on where I am. Will I have to purchase two guides to have it on both comps or can I download it to both my desktop and laptop?
/facepalm
i bought the guide and downloaded it and put it in the addons folder, how do i get it to work? I log in and nothing happens. i don’t even see it listed with the other addons.
Make sure you unzip it to the Addons folder and use “path names”. If done correctly you should see a folder under Addons called GavinsHordeGuide. Then under that you should see 3 folders plus a bunch of LUA files. If you don’t see this then you didn’t extract it or you extracted to some other folder.
I was wondering about the program used in the guide. I just wanted to know if I was going to have to download a program to view the guide, if you could respond ASAP that would be great, thanks.
Not at all. The guide is built into an in-game addon. Just add the addon to WoW, and the guide displays right inside the game. No programs or special viewers needed.
-Gavin
Cant figure out what Im doing wrong? I downloaded guide, extracted to desktop, then drag and drop the folder to Addons. I even tried opening the guide folder and dragging TomTom and the guide folder to addons. Nothing, what is wrong is it me? please help me. Thanks
Assuming you are running on Windows and not a MAC.
Try again, but this time extract to Interface\Addons folder instead of Desktop. Right click on the Start menu, click Explore and navigate to the World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons folder. Under that you should see a folder called GavinsHordeGuide.
If you don’t you did not extract it correctly and you need to get someone to help you (neighbor, relative, ?).
If you do, start WoW, login, click Addons and make sure Gavins Guide is selected, press OK and enter the world. Good Luck.
Something else I have noticed, I have 3 different Interface folders, one that says Interface and 2 that say Interface followed by some jumbled up numbers?
just one quick question sir gav.. should i dlete quest helper before installing this ?
as for the missing quests aka programming typos. im already 70×4 soon to be x6
Nope, don’t delete your quest helper. While the guide does tell you where and when to do quests, there’s the odd one where the co-ords are a bit off or the mob you’re hunting has a hefty patrol, and an addon like Carbonite or another questhelper can be really handy in tracking them down ^^.
Also Gavin, just like to say I’m massively impressed. I’m normally a fairly slow leveller, but playing casually since I downloaded your guide yesterday I’ve dinged 4 times (22-26) in 2 evenings, and that includes fitting in school and homework
Who do I contact for refund information?
For all refund requests and other issues such as download problems send your receipt to editor@dominateyourserver.com and we will be happy to take care of those for you.
I didn’t see that it was a horde guide
until i had paid. Is there an alliance guide too?
Just out of curiosity, but…
How fast is the record that you set? You keep mentioning it, but you never actually give a time.
Also, one other thing. I’m sure you know about Jame’s guides. He claims to have managed 70-71 in 3 hours, yet earlier you estimated your route would take ~8 per level. Is this possible? Or is it just as you get closer to 80, the amount of XP needed ramps up in comparison to the XP gotten from mobs/quests, and thus the time to level shoots up past 8 hours, dragging the average up?
Cheers.
The record was 4 days 21 hours from 1-70 solo with no rested bonus, twinking or powerleveling. You can do it MUCH faster with RAF and powerleveling, but even that is dependent on how strong the toon is that is doing the mob clears.
Yes, we estimate the time the average player will spend per level at about 8 hours per level but the lower levels are faster than the later ones. Of course, James is probably really good at the game and may have spectacular equipment as well.
We would love to be able to say that everyone can do a level every 4 hours, but it’s always best to overestimate and then have you do it faster than saying you should be able to do it in 2 hours and then have everyone take two or three times that long and be mad at us.
4 days, 21 hours?
That’s impressive.
And fair enough.
Thanks for the response.

$2000 bucks on the line for those super levelers. Gavin, I double dog dare you to do it and win the G-note. You have been dared.
wow, this guide is simply amazing! Thanks so much for all the hard work you and the whole team put into DYS! Keep up all the hard work! and if you ever need help with something, you could always ask me
Downloaded the guide and within a day leveled from 64-66, almost to 67 – AMAZING! Thanks for this awesome guide! The in-game aspect makes this the best mod around and I used to do the “alt-tab” deal searching for coordinates on quests but no more thanks to your AWESOME guide!!!
Amazing in-game mod, worth every penny. Leveling just got an “easy” button.
Question: The current quest I completed before getting this guide. The quest before that I need to do now, but it is checked and there is no way that I see to uncheck it. Is this possible?
Thanks for great guide!
You can uncheck an item by opeining up the full checklist interface. Just right click on the checkbox item you see now and it should open up a full scrolling window with all of the checkbox items for that guide section. Gavin’s guide FTW!
So for a suggestion, do you think that you could possibly get your in-game mod to work with Cartographer instead of TomTom? i find it works alot better that way as Cartographer is a much better map mod.
I bought the inscriptionguide, any idea how soon the 350 – 450 guide will be out, and how do we go about downloading it, since updates are free?
First of all, I have to say this guide is soo worth the investment. One of the things I hated most was leveling my characters. There is a huge lack of direction in leveling and quests, and can cause frustration, especially if your friends are pulling away from you in level. One of the big problems with this game is the level gap, and if you are a few levels above/below your friends there is no point in playing with them. As a semi casual player there were times I just felt lost and alone.
For the first time I have actually started enjoying leveling my characters. I actually don’t feel it is some crappy chore I must suffer through.
So Gavin and team I say one big thanks to you and all your hard work!
I do have Two questions regarding updates for the guide. First, I did not see a starting area guide for tauren, not a must have item but would be nice. Secondly I just picked up the expansion and realized there was no guide for the death knight starting area, are you going to be adding that soon?
Thanks again
Hello, I bough the guyde but cant find where I put the file. How do I redownload it?
So I cannot seem to get anything to work for levels 58-60 through 73-74. Anything below or above those i get the arrows to pop up on the screen. so not sure what my issue is unless i just have to start out in the level 73-74 zone.
Gavin, im not sure if its my guide alone but the arrow is pointing to howling fjord when it clearly means borean tundra, i just dont know why my coords are so far off, any clues?
Nim
You should release a low level demo for free (like 1-20), so we can see what its like before buying it!
I never used the Horde much, but I tried the guide and my guys are rolling along. It’s probably one of 2 great leveling addons, but of the 2, it’s about 1/3rd the cost of the other addon… Well worth the $20 or so IMO
Leti – Zuluhed (Alliance)
Leti – Blood Furnace (Horde)
hey i bought this guide an installed it how it says but its not working nor are any of my other addons (the addon button isnt appearing on char page) any1 no who 2 fix this?
I have a problem:
I loaded the zip file into my addon folder, nothing happened
I extracted the files into the addon folder, nothing happened
I took all of the smaller files out of the bigger files and placed them into the addon folder, nothing happened
I don’t know what to do, please someone tell me: What folders need to be in thee addon folder, where should I put everything?
I have the same problem as Platus. I am not new to add-ons. I’ve been playing for years. The leveling guide and Tom-Tom do not show up as an option from the add-on button from my log on screen.
I love the guide. A few learning pains but Now I can’t live without it! Can’t wait for the Alliance guide.
Will you be having an update to cover the starting area for the Deathknight?
Still waiting for a responce and the starting area for DK.
the problem with the DK starting area is not something that can be fixed at this point in time. Many of the NPC’s exist in other zones, and since the whole thing is instanced TomTom sort of freaks out on waypoints. We have toyed with the idea of doing a DK segment with just notes, but that would hardly be up to par with the rest of the system. If we can come up with an effective way of working around the issues we will certainly do a guide update that includes them.
so i noticed a problem in the 70-71 guide starting with the quest trail of fire where all the coords are off by an incredibly large distance
Hi DYS!
Just wondered what Gavin & Lawbringers played time to 80 was in the end?
Gavin, I am using the guide on my mage with no problems. Today I tried to use it on my 70 mage on the Boulderfist server, could not select a guide. When your interface comes up, the guide window is empty. This happens to my other toons on other servers as well. Works fine for all my toons on Fenris.
Does this only work for one server?
works on turalyon
Will the ally guide be a seprate cost from the horde guide, or will the people who bought the horde guide get the ally guide too?
Also, I have 2 main computers. How do I get the guide on both?
hey gavin and lawbringer i posted earlier bout addons (including the guide) not working and my friend told me something about vista blocking use of addons or something like that and was confirmed on the wow forums but no1 seems to tell u how to fix in a way i can understand xD anyway if any1 no s anything about this can u tell me tyvm
fletcher
ok problem solved finally got some good information from the forums ook so instead of extrating the addns and this guide to program files/ wow/ inferface/ addons you need to extract it to user/public/games/wow/interface/addons
and tada it works
hope this helps
fletcher
Will an update be coming for the DK starting zone?
I bought the guide to bring my 70s to 80 ASAP. I’m using rested XP and running way ahead of the guide in XP. Should I do training when I level or wait till guide tells me to? Also I have noticed the same as another post where the arrow points to someplace 10000 yards away, but really a couple 100 yards in another direction. Good guide
I’m loving the leveling guide…for the most part. Similar problem to other posts: arrow pointing to waypoint a zillion yards away. I was using the updated TomTom. I deleted the new one and reinstalled version that came with the guide and its mostly better, but not consistent.
QUESTION: when will there be updates for inscription guide and leveling guide?
Thanks
ps. Did Gavin or Lawbringer get the first lv 80 on Fenris?
Great guide, the only issue i found is many of the Coordinates given in the help tips are completely wrong (and its not any addons messing with it because i have no other addons). it works on all my servers! for t hose of you having server issues, A. try deleting your WTF folder OR extract to desktop and then drag the files into your add ons folder
We’ve done tons of fixes and coord updates over the past week. A new version of the guide was released today – if you didn’t get an email about it, send an email to gavin AT dominateyourserver.com and I’ll add you to the updates list.
-Gavin
also, how will we know when updates are released? and how will i get them? as my pay pal email is not the email i check regularly
Hey there, I purchased your leveling guide, and yes there have been a few problems. I know you have fixed many of them but how do I get these updates onto my copy in-game?
Technically challenged. thanks
Hello!
any chance to get full functionality on Russians servers?
i mean quest tracking, poit arrow and etc?
Since I’m ally, I bought Zygor’s in-game Alliance guide (I couldn’t wait hte six months or more; my alliance toons can’t let those Horde baddies get a leg up!) — for my Horde toons, I’m gonna use this one (of course!). Any idea if the two will ‘play nice together’? Shouldn’t matter since I can disable the other in my Horde toons — but was just curious.
I have both and they are conflict free for me.
anyone know were u get the inscription guide?
Is there any way to change the email address that the updates are sent to as I had to use my dads pay pal account?
very awesome giude, but the range from level 20-27 it’s missing, after Ghostlands 12-20 there’s the range 26-28.
I’ve found a few problems with the guide ( very minor in most cases).
1. When doing the quest “Stealing Supplies”, the coordinates tell me to go to the Kolkar village instead of the Magram.
2. Transition from 31-33 to 33-35 guides are a bit unclear. I was level 32 and got to the 33-35 guide. It didn’t say I was behind, but I just grinded the 3/5’s level out to get to 33. Now, however, I’m a level or so ahead. Just a bit of incontinuity in there, you should take a look at it.
3. A time where it expects you to have your hearth to Org, but somehow missed the step to do it when there isn’t a step ( I think ).
It depends on how much rested exp you have. there is no way to track that and take it into account.
It becomes way more apparent when you get to higher levels when it takes more then 1-2 hours killing mobs to blow through your rested xp.
One of the things I do when I am rather far ahead of the guide (at least 2 levels) is wait till there is a lull in the quests … ie when you have to turn in most of your quests and when you’re done you have almost none left.
When I hit that point I just load up the next level of the guide and just move on.
I rotate through 5 toons in their upper 60s and can only play a couple hours a day. As such, I am always playing in rested mode. That means I advance much faster than the guide expects.
For most part, that is not a problem. When I get a couple levels ahead, I just skip an entire guide. As Agorg says, I do this after turning in a bunch of quests, and usually when the guide says to go to a new camp. I read ahead and then pick up at the next region after that, skipping an entire camp’s region.
The one improvement I would like to see in the tool is letting us know when a particular quest is Really Important and should not be skipped.
As an example, I bypassed The Assassin and that chain of 6 run-around quests. 4 levels later I found I could not talk to the Mag’har. I had to go back and run that quest in order to be able to continue with a bunch of stuff later on.
Not a fatal flaw, but it would have been nice had that Assassin chain been somehow flagged as critical, so I would have done it originally.
I got this thing a couple weeks back, and I came across a problem. How come there is no leveling for 20-26?
So here is a question. I have been thinking and waiting to get this. letting the bug fixes be added. I assume this is a PC app? cause im running a Mac (Macs are the shit, just so all you PC users know) did you use a universal code or is it straight PC?
For the record, I bought this the day it was released. I use it on a Mac with no problems at all.
I wouldn’t wait for any bugs to be fixed. The problems that exist are small and easily worked around (occasionally a quest target location will be slightly away from where indicated, but never far enough to cause much trouble).
This addon has completely changed the way I play WoW. Assuming you are looking for a guide, This Is It! I have several, and I no longer even bother with the other, more traditional ones.
Warcraft ruined my life no job kids left with wife good bye world.
Fantastic!
Sounds like you ruined your life.
I purchased your guide and I love it, however I need the latest 70-80 update and I cannot find a way to contact you. Please send me a link to the download page.
The guide version I have seems to need a lot of work in Northrend. One quest sent me to an Alliance Camp, and I was killed by 72 elites. Thanks, Marvin
Hey ; id like to buy the guide but i live in Morocco , Africa. I have acess to “AMERICAN EXPRESS GIFT CARDS” can i use that to pay? Paypal does not accept those credit cards. Can you plz help me out, id really like to purchase ure guide…
why does the guild from lvl 20 – 26 doesn’t work…
is there a way i could redownload the guide? i lost it when i reinstalled WOW after a system failure on my comp.
I would like to say thanks Gavin for the guide.I have made a fresh toon to see if the guide really works and all I can say is “YES IT DOES”.Again thanks for the nice guide.
to bad that this will no longer work… i just read somewhere and also heard on other podcasts that all mods that require paying to download it and ones that solicit donations will no longer be allowed and will be banned in the days following 3.1. this is unfortunate … i wanted to give this one a try
The guide is going to work fine. The core of the mod is completely free and can be obtained from many different sources. The only thing you are paying for is the information files loaded into the free mod.
The rule about paid mods is basically aimed at Carbonite. It’s the only paid mod any of us can think of based on the rules Blizz posted. Everyone else is using mods that are freely distributed and then adding information to the free mod. Blizz can’t do anything about that. They could try, but they would get sued and lose – badly.
What they want to stop is people using ads IN the game. It would ruin the whole experience. So any mod that does pop-ups or solicits you in the game is biting the dust. We used a widely distributed freeware program. You are not paying for the mod, or does our walkthrough include solicitations of any kind.
The same thing holds true for any other leveling guide out there that has an in game functionality. You’re not paying for the mod, only the guide, and Blizz already got it’s head handed to them when they tried to sue a guide writer three years ago. I won’t say who, of course
I was wondering now that the patch is out,my guide wont load up…Could this be out of date or did I just miss some lil tidbit.
Definitely wondering about the 3.1 situation, too.
Guide no longer working for me too since 3.1. Any advice?
Since the in-game guide (which is FREAKING AWESOME btw) is broken, will there be an update any time soon? I can’t level without my guide!!!
PATCH 3.1 UPDATES, PLEASE READ
The guide was updated within hours after the patch. As with this situation, and all future updates on any guide from Gavin or DYS, all you have to do is log in to your members area and direct download the new version.
http://www.gavinsguide.com
The new guide does not work!
The frame will not show itself.
Was a great guide but the new version does nothing!
I can’t find an email for you so am forced to post this publicly…
I am trying to get the upgrade for 3.1, but I am told that my “login credentials could not be found”?
I also cannot find any email from you that had a password in it, so unless I was able to set it myself, I have no idea what it would be…
I bought the guide on Nov 9, 2008. Prior updates were emailed to me, but this one was not?
Transaction ID: 3RC41247BL1383019
Mindstorm – Odd problem, forward this to gavin@dominateyourserver.com and we’ll see what we can do to get this fixed for you.
Cavorite – If the frame is hidden it’s not a problem with the guide but either with another mod or it has been configured not to show somehow. I’ve actually had that happen before, and you can reset the frame visibility in interface/addons/gavin’s Horde Guide/show status frame.
Updated mine, and still it errors out, shall I e-mail the error?
Been there, done that… Several times. Also tried to click on something that returns the frame to default position and nothing. I’ve disabled all other mods and that didnt do it either. My friend has the same problem.
I am having same problem. Since Patch 3.1 and 3.1.1 I have been able to get the leveling guide to show but its cut off so i can’t see how many more mobs or items i need for a quest so i have to open my quest log then close it due to it being too big on screen and cutting off the text part showing how complete your quest is. Ex. 15/15 Dragon mages killed. *complete*. unless i open Q log. Also Tom Tom isn’t showing up whatsoever and i have already done all the things ranging from downloading newest guide .. but i don’t want to get it from another site and risk messing something up. Can you please get this fixed ASAP.. i miss leveling fast due to guide .
~Jaredith aka Jarnukoo of Stonemaul
I also had some problems with TomTom, but I got the newest version from Curse and it works fine.
The text cutoff is annoying but if you hover your cursor over the mob and the name box will also show the level of completion.
Have fun!
Hey — I ordered this a while ago but just finally started a Horde toon.
I am truly a casual player. (I did not log on for 22 days straight in march)
BUT I am immensely pleased with guide. I am screaming along from level 10 to 20 right now. At this rate I fully expect my new Horde toon to lap my Main Ally toon who is resting on his laurels at 74.
Thanks!
As stated both above and below, go to http://www.gavinsguide.com to access all of your materials
I got this guide and I just simply loved it I never really thought that a guide would help me SO much but i was def rong cuz wen it came to this guide I went from 1-20 within 5 hours w/o rested and I was amazed ty SO MUCH DYS I used to think these comments were made up by the creators but I was wrong. Because usually it’s names like Brian and stuff like that but I am so glad I was wrong, if u want to contact me for proof that this is a real person go to
Black Dragonflight (PVP) US
Urkai
Updates are ready at http://www.gavinsguide.com for current content patches.
Hey, I bought the guide when it first came out and for some reason when i go to that website it doesn’t say that i’ve bought it even thought i know i have. All i see is the inscription and AH guides. Help me please!
been thinking about getting this guide, finally broke down and bought it today. i was already pretty good at manipulating my auction house but not nearly pulling in the gold lawbringer claimed i could. after reading the guide i learned some new tips and tricks I never thought about regarding some failsafe ways to make gold quick and easy and took 150 gold a few hours ago, invested it and I am already back to what i started with plus have 300g invested in things that will bring me gold in 2-7 days. thanks guys, i am impressed.
I purchased the Horde leveling guide and the gold making guide but I can’t seem to find an email with a password. When I enter my email address into the “Forgot password” section it says my email was not found. I really like the guides but currently the leveling guide is not working and I would like to check out the member’s area for help.
hey hey,
been downloaded the update now, but addon now says out of date and doesnt work. tried to hit the support link in the ‘member center’ but the page doesnt exist.
any info?
thanks
hey gavin,
i bought the guide today and im having a bit of trouble, i have curse client and i cant delete most of my addons even though ive removed curse client they still show up and ive unzipped the folder and placed them in the addons folder ,which is empty altough there are tons of addons on the game, i then searched for them on the addons screen in game and they werent there, any idea whats gone on?
thanks
Hey. uh. Ive got your guide for 3.1 and somehow it wont show up in import guides into TourGuide. Ive never used TourGuide before. Help me please! =]
When will you be updating this for 3.2?
I had purchased your guide, and I have to say. Best guide I’ve used, ever.
Now here’s the problem. Seeing as the new patch(3.2.0) came out. Your guide is no longer showing up. I have clicked load out of date addons, the little box for the guide shows up, but it’s just a blank box, TomTom doesn’t show up. I just would like to know if I have to wait for a new version, or is there a way around this
We will update the main mod as soon as we possibly can, but it may be a day or two, hang loose.
Gotta say i am a little disappointed in you guys for not having an update ready on patch day again. Just doesn’t seem to make good business sense not to have a mod that we pay for updated and ready to go, while 75% of the mods we get for free are updated and ready to go.
Jim,
While we feel your pain, the mod that runs our leveling guide is not within our ability to fix. We are not selling a mod, as doing so would violate the ToS, so we were forced to use a previously existing mod that is not under our control. What you are paying for with Gavin’s guide are the exact steps and instructions that you can’t get anywhere else. Much like most of the guides out there we can make the whole thing available in print form if you like.
The in game mod puts the guide at your fingertips. The same mod also runs some free guides – but you can imagine what the quality is like.
We are keeping a close eye on the updates to the mod and all of our customers will have the update as soon as we can humanly get it up in the members section. We apologize for the inconvenience, but there are a lot of mods out there that got wrenches in their gears. It happens with every patch, and more often than not it means for us that most patches will put us out of service for a day or two since the mod author has decided it is better to fix errors after they happen than do so in the PTR’s.
However, updates are being made at this very moment and will be available before noon. Yes, it would be better if we could figure out a way to patch before the patch. Since that is not possible we try to update the guide within 2 hours after the mod is fixed, which is not a bad turn-around time at all. But we DID design the guide so that it’s hard to live without. Apparently even 18 hours is too long.
I thank you for your detailed reply, i think it gives us all a better understanding of what is happening behind the scene’s. On a side note please tell them to hurry cause if i have to listen to my directionally challenged wife asking me where do i go to do this quest for another 6 hours tonight i may have to delete her characters…LOL
So I downloaded the updated version, But I still have the same problem, just a blank box with a checkbox. Am I doing something wrong here, or are you still on the look to fix this?
Do I have to download a new version of TourGuide, and place the guide into the newer version of tour guide?
Okay, maybe I’m having a blonde moment, but where can we download the updated version? I have misplaced the original link where I purchased and downloaded the product.
Instructions are in this thread above your post. Scroll up and be enlightened.
I know about gavinsguide.com Lawbringer but i’m not sure if the guide is up and running yet with patch 3.2 cause it says on the site that it is but its not showing up period. so now i’m lost and just raiding as my lvl 80 DK on Stonemaul server pvp .. . However i wanna level other classes soon too and with college about to start in about 8 days starting today the guide would save me alot of time leveling. perhaps i’m just having cruddy luck but everytime i download the guide i always get HGL Waypoints dependency is missing everything else is good but it don’t show or work in game. thanks for such great products from your and Gavin’s hard work.
Patch 3.2 is here so i started some new alts after geting this guide. I and haveing problums with geting the 20-26 guide to load anything i can do to fix this i have downloaded the file 3 times and reaplyed it to the addons 3 times and it still fails to load . So as of the moment im at a loss as to what to do with my 4 lv 20s so if you could recomend any ways to fix it would be helpfull to my taurens and undead
i managed to fix the glitch with my 20-26 guide part im just happy because
i have the next 3 days off yay
how did you fix it
im having the same problem with the 20-26 missing i can see a blood elf 20-26 in my add on folder but its is not showing in game some help please i have downloaded the guide 4 times
right click the blood elf 20-26 and pick edit and change everything that says bloodelf 20-26 to level 20 – 26 then save but make a back up just incase
Thanks for the tip Anthony. I just downloaded this today and saw the same as others, no 20-26 but in the addon folder Blood Elf 20-26.lua. I just changed the name to ‘Level 20-26′ and now it seems fine.
Something else I’ve noticed in the guide. I am currently leveling a hunter and there are stages where you ’stable your pet, get another one to learn some pet skills (i.e. Claw 4)’ and then to go back to your original pet and train him. This is no longer necessary as one of the patches has removed this part of the game. Your pet gains rank as it goes along with you. Not a show stopper, just need to click those parts off. guess it could even be considered faster leveling!
Excellent work though folks.
missing levels 20-26 on the 3.2.2 guides
pyro look up i posted the solution allready
if you buy the Horde guide, will you get the ally guide when it is released? or is it a separate purchase?
what happens if we lose the file to download the guide? i purchased it a year or so ago and have since had to reformat my pc…losing all my info…
I have the same problem. My HDD crashed and I lost pretty much everything. I’ve sent a couple of emails but not heard anything back yet.
Any word on when a patch for 3.3.x will be released? One of the quest trees is broken up in Northrend.
Thanks.
I am wondering, will the guide for 80-85 be available for cataclysm? and if yes will it be separate or as an update?
So how are you going to manage to have the guide now that Zygor owns the rights to TourGuide now? that is assuming your guide uses tourguide, will you develop your own “guide viewer”
