Podcast Questions Thread
Posted on October 28th, 2008 by Lawbringer under General TipsIt’s that time of the week again, and you can post your questions below. We get questions a little scattered around because people seem to still be a bit confused (or impatient
) about where to put them. We certainly will do everything we can to do this thread on Monday, but as you can see we had three other bits of news to post yesterday and we needed to get them out quick. They were nearly too late as it was.
Anyway, every Monday or Tuesday we will give you this opportunity to ask your questions. So hold onto those and chew on them over the weekends until you see this thread. That way we’ll be sure not to miss anything juicy that gets hidden in the hundreds of other comments on other topics. We’ll see you on Friday!

When can we expect Part II of the Inscription guide? WotLK comes out in 17 days. Here’s my situation:
* 70 main toon is my 365 scribe (made over 30K gold so far in 2 weeks)
* 70 alt 375 herbalist
* very fast at leveling, and I’ve been in beta on my copied main
* best friend is a 375 herbalist and will level herbalism as he levels, and he will be sending me all his Northrend herbs
* plan to level the alt to 80 asap but it may be a week or two after my main
What else can I do to maximize my profits?
I find it really hard to gain gold as a Warrior no matter what spec I am and now that Titans Grip requires so much hit it has made it even worse. I really need somewhere to grind gold in outlands that is easy fast and fun. I currently have 3 70’s , Druid, Warrior and Warlock. My druid and warrior are geared for BT / Sunwell and my warlock is a recent 70. I have 3 level 60 characters from Recruit a Friend who all need mounts, but as I said before I dont have gold or anywhere to farm it… Can you help?
Lets talk about Hunters. I am ecstatic about the exotic pets but not so happy about the fact that all the pets have both Cower and Growl. Cower has become all but useless when the new pet talents are taken into account and the only time I would ever use Cower would be in a Instance/Raid situation where my pet is causing more threat than the tank(s). But I have never run into this problem in any situation. On top of pets having both Cower and Growl, they like to cast both at the same time, whether you have auto cast on or not ?.? WTF is goin on here? Have you guys noticed this in the Beta at all? Because if this is still happening in WOTLK, my hunter may be deleted (I guess he’d still be good for PvP).
I hate this too… I have never had to use cower for any pet. Ever. If your pet is generating more threat than any tank there is something seriously wrong. But since the patch it seems that whenever I dismiss or even mount/dismount my pet resets it’s attacks to active and it does both growl and cower which is extremely annoying. Plus, with all the new pet talents/spells, there’s not enough room on the pet bar to put them all out on your screen so you have to go in each time you summon your pet and change the settings back…
Growl and Cower are on the same cooldown. If you turn off the autocast on cower, Growl will still cast but since they are on they same cooldown you’ll see cower refreshing too. It freaked me out the first time, and yes the only time you shuld have cower on is if youre in a raid and thats if your pet is causing more threat than the tank.
How do you make the voices on your podcast?
Should I be purchasing all the rare JC designs from the AH for my new JC or will those be available from vendors in WotLK?
Do either of you have access to the WotLK beta? And if so, what info do you have about Death Knights for soloing, patrying, and raiding? What classes/spots are they going to take over in the parties and raids now? Are my raid classes gonna be safe with the new class, or am I going to have to reroll in order to continue participating in end game…? (not so much MY specific classes, but which classes in general are in trouble?)
Well it’s Wednesday and there’s only a few posts up so I’ll toss a few questions your way:
1) With the new talent trees out, has your leveling toon-of-choice changed at all from BM hunter?
2) When can we expect your leveling guide and part2 of the inscription guide?
3) It seems like with every patch or expansion, the DYS team has a new trick or two for playing the market like reselling 1-handers to duel-wielding shamans or buying up herbs for the new profession. What are your market predictions, if any, and how do you plan to Dominate WotLK?
Thanks
Im very curious as to when your “Gavin’s Mastery” addon/mod thing will be available. You talked about it in your last podcast. Sounds really great imo. =)
From memory they said when it would be avaible in the podcast. Something like the 14th of novemeber?
The leveling guide will be available around the 7th of November, a full week (ish) before WotLK is even out yet.
I have been working on dominating the AH on my server playing alliance faction and so far I’ve been doing great with pets but I was wondering what else I can do to try and get more gold because I’ve never had alot, no epic flying mounts on any of my 70s, it would help if you could point out some items to focus on buying and reselling. or maybe just more items like pets that i should go buy from vendors and sell for a nice price.
i was needing to expand on my question here, i noticed that moneybaggins said he scanned the AH for 5 minutes a day or so, how do you go about doing that? do you use auctioneer or do u search through every sing auction? i downloaded auctioneer and there are so many different things on it i cant manage it. i just go along doing things with my own searches usually.
I’d would like to know more about mounts. Are our flying mounts going to be useable in Northrend only or will we finely beable to fly over Azeroth? How many different mounts are there in the new patch? Are they better than the current ones or just a vanity thing? I know you mentioned the motorbike in a previous post but isn’t that only available to engineers? and is it any faster than our current mounts?
And my other area of interest is what does lvl 80 offer us besides the obvious end game content? Are there special mounts, areas, arenas, BGs? Waht are some of the cool things that open up to us only at lvl 80?
Mounts will be the same speed, and they are usually all a vanity thing. No, you will not be able to fly over Azeroth and I shudder at the thought of that(constant ganking in STV while leveling not to mention every other contested in a PVP server). Not sure how many more different mounts. And the motorbike as far as I know is a BoE equip not needed to be an engineer, just a lot of gold.
On to the end game lvl 80 content. Pretty much, the arenas, heroics, raids, and NEW BGs that include the new siege weapons and a new pvp area in northrend with fun aerial battle mounts that involve lots of fun dailies for (I believe) a faction that you gain rep and gold with, and leads up to a bunch of nice epics and rares as the new honor equipment system. Hope this helps,
Thiel the Paladin
(Magtheridon)
+ a bunch of other charcs in my main server
i’ve been trying to make enough cash to get my epic flying mount before wotlk but dont think im gonna make cos i just cant seem to get it past 2.5k so 3 questions here
1) how long would you say it would take to grab 2.5k from wotlk quests. would it be in time for lvl 77 or 78 whenever the cold weather flying quest is.
2) using auctioneer ive been buying items around 10% lower than the normal price and reslling them is the right thing to do or am i doing it completely wrong?
3) what other gold sinks are there in wotlk since the flying attunment is a free quest where are blizzard making you throw your money?
rustys last blog post..Podcast Questions Thread
I wish some of you people would read the forums
@ Darkwolfneo
Flying mounts can be used in notherend after a specified point, however the point has not been announced by blizzard YET
And no.. flying mounts will not be implemented in azeroth with the expansion.
Also my question, Will alchemy still be a viable profession in WOTLK?
of course. Raids are still gonna need mana pots, elixirs and flasks. your money makers are usually gonna be tanking flasks, like the Flask of Fortification was in TBC.
Is it really worth it to take inscription with gold-making in mind?
There are a lot of scribes on my server. Every glyph in the game has around 3 pages devoted to it! I’ve farmed up enough herbs in my spare time to level inscription to 375 3 times, and I’ve been planning to use those herbs to have inscription on my death knight. What I’m worried about, however, is that being on a high-population realm, there are a lot of scribes. Being new to the glyph market would put me at a disadvantage anyways, on top of all the competition.
I’m looking for the solution that would best benefit me in the long run.
Should I proceed to take inscription on my death knight,
or
Sell my herbs while prices are high, and use the money to level enchanting, which you and others before you have stated to be the best money-making profession. period. I’m a dual gatherer right now, so the new profession would be on a death knight.
Cold Weather Flying: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=54197
You can fly at level 77. I wish people could be more cognizant not to clog up the comments section with questions that have easily search-able answers. Yes, alchemy will be viable. Any profession is viable - it’s how you utilize it that matters. (Where have we heard that before?) In their last podcast they mentioned herbalism will be fine, skinning will be fine, and mining will be better yet.
Will DYS be using Carbonite, QuestHelper, TomTom, Lightheaded, or a combination of those for your guide?
1) Has anybody noticed a change (for the worst) in the drop-rate of motes on water Elementals and Void spawns (both in Nagrand) or am I just unlucky?
I used to be able to pick up at least a primal water in a single Unending breath as a warlock) … the last two times I’ve come out with only 1/10th of that (1 single mote)
2) The gathering of all of us Domiinators on a single server sounds soooo awesome that I can hardly wait to join you guys with my Death Knight, and implement all the cool tricks that you guys teach especially in the AH but won’t it be a little more complicated to make gold if everyone is trying the same things at the same time … won’t we be shooting each other in the proverbial foot ?
2b) MoneyBaggins mentionned some advanced tricks for the AH as a guild (large group) angling towards the same thing; Can we have a few pointers/tricks/tips on how to do that or at least a glimpse of the true potential that this scenario represents for those few, like-minded, dedicated Dominators?
I look forward to Dominating with you guys come Mid-November.(No I won’t be making a new toon from scratch, I’d rather spend the limited time I have maxing out my main and getting ready to dominate when WotLK comes out)
I have two questions about about two class types of the Holy Trinity (Healer, Tank, Dps). I’m not worried about the dps aspect because just about any class can fill that spot, but I am wondering about the other two…
First lets talk about healers. With all of the changes in the new patch and whats to come in WotLK will there be any feeling left out, each class is getting talents or new spells to fill in for their weaknesses. As it stands each healing class excels at a certain aspect of healing, such as: H.o.t druid, group shammy, single target pally, and all around priest. But with the additon of all of the new content will one or more of these healing classes be left out in order to take advantage of one classes versatility over another?
Second is the tank classes. With druids and pallies getting a big push forward in this area and with the addition of DKs will the spot warriors have had be taken over by one of the other classes?
I’d like to know if primal nethers/nether vortex/heart of darkness’ will still be worth anything or will these be replaced w/ new similar mats in wotlk?
Also i was wondering if the epic gems will still retain their values & would it be worth picking up a few extras of these w/ badges/money?
thanks
will the arena points be erased when wotlk comes available?
Arena points will reset when you ding 71. Honor points will stay with you until 80. So spend those arena ones and keep stacking up honor
Honor points will be Reset come WotLK Release. Spend them while you can.
Razortooth is right, Viszla is wrong.
Would it be possible to have the Podcast transcribed?
I have a limited Internet Plan where if I go over 3 Gig I have to pay $0.25 per Meg over limit?
I have a 70 Shadow Priest, none of my professions are 375, (350 Tailor, 275 Ench)
and 2 almost 60 toons (due to the recruit-a-friend thing happening) I don’t make much money, so should I level my priest when WotLK comes out or level my 2 alts (Rogue and Lock)? I also here that Blizz is reducing the leveling from 60-70 but i didnt catch when. Would it be worth it to wait it out, level my priest first or just go ahead and level my alts to 70 or 80? I’m so confused
Patch 3.0.2 reduced the xp between 60 and 70. 30% or something I think. My alt got into outland the day after the patch so I was very happy. Was able to hammer up to 66 quite fast …then it starts feeling like a drag but at least it’s less of a drag than it used to be. Stick to quests you know and your XP will be quite fast.
I see you guys have lots of questions already this week
Looking forward to Fridays podcast very much!
In one of the many important articles I look forward to every week when it comes to dominating I recall on the last podcast that I should drop skinning which I will do, and pick up mining (which I already had maxed out and dropped for herbalism and inscription
). Anyway, which areas would you say have the biggest amounts of ore. Like iron, mithril, and thorium? Thanks for all the help guys!!
Generally tanaris and badlands are good for iron and mithril. But rather than focusing on individual zones for mining, you should map out all the caves in a few zones and focus on hitting those up. It might seem slow because of the travel time between caves but you’ll be rewarded with 2-4 nodes per cave as well as anything you pick up on the way.
Unquestionably the best place in the game for levelling mining from 245 up is the mine next to nethergarde keep. Alliance can’t mine here at all. (The nodes are not clickable or detectable by find minerals.) Probably because all the mobs are friendly to alliance. But if you are horde you will be amazed how much metal is in this cave provided you aren’t competing for it. Bear in mind that killing the mobs in there will show up on alliance LocalDefence channel so be prepared for company.
My question: Which classes are Death knights strong against and which classes are they weak against?
Hey guys, do you think engineering will be worth something since engineers will be able to make motor-cycles and you know everyone is gonna want one? thanks, keep dominating guys.
I’ve been watching the AH since inscription came out, but I’m finding myself hard pressed to decide what to follow. My question is: On the general market which is more profitable? Glyphs or Herbs?
What lv do u need to be to go past 375, and is there any new decent player made bags
thank you guys for all the work and ideas
Hi,
I was wondering if there was any herbs that i can farm to be prepared for the xpac. i bought you’re inscription guide and i’ve made 11k gold from it, i’m very pleased and apreciate the advanced notice to farm herbs. Now is there anything else in advance that we should start doing for inscription to be prepared to make loads of G’s for the xpac?
Keep up the awsome work!
For your guide gavin, will it cover both allly and horde, or do we need to buy one for each side
what lv is needed to go past 375 in a skill and is there any new decent made player bags, sorry if this was posted alredy
Hey guys, long time subscriber to your site, has helped me immensly over the years. Keep up the good work!!!
Obviously dominating on the European servers means I won’t be able to join the Dominate guild which I think is a cracking idea!!! I was wondering, and maybe this is more of a point to other followers than yourselves, but I would love it if a us European players perhaps started a sort of sister chapter of the Dominate guild, to accommodate all of us that are missing out on the truly epicness of the guild on the U.S. servers. Would love to get some feedback from other Euro server players and of course see what you guys think.
Thanks guys
Ronok, 70 Orc Hunter, Bronze Dragonflight, European realm
Im an EU based player aswell and i would love to see an EU dominate guild started. is there a possibility you guys will look into 1?
Banor/Carioni 70 rogue/shaman
Draenor EU
Just a quicky, what is the quickest and easiest way to make money atm? Am not very high in inscription since my m8 took some gold off me
, so my herb supply is low
Elfofdark, 57 Druid
Quel’ Thalas EU
I hve a full T4/5 Holy Pally. Would you recommend respeccing ret for leveling or staying holy?
Hello Gavin and Moneybagguns, been a DYS reader for awhile now and really like how help us WoW players out. Now onto my question.
I know it’s been a week into the expansion, but when 3.0.2 hit after reading your advice to pick up Inscription as it’d be a huge money maker I decided to do just that. Sadly, I was caught with one of the unlucky servers. Herbs going for average 20g and up with glyphs being so over populated on the auction house and only for 1g to 2g! Not your fault though. Some just get bad straws So after dropping Mining for Inscription I’ve decided not to waste all my gold to level it for minimal profit. So should I pick back up Mining to help my Jewelcrafting? Or should I go for something like Engineering? Or Enchanting to sell disenchanted materials on the Auction House? Or anything else that might help. I’m a Protection specialized Paladin if that helps any. Thanks.
