Post Your Podcast Questions
Posted on October 21st, 2008 by Lawbringer under General TipsIt’s that time of the week again. Well, actually it’s a day late, but you’ll just have to live with it. Post your questions in the thread below and Gavin and Moneybagguns will asnswer some of them in the friday podcast.

How much does gear affect leveling? For 2 years i have lvled all my characters with not even a thought of getting any gear better than what happens to drop or you get from quests and i’ve done fine without it. : |
I agree. I also feel it is such a scam and rip off that we are forced to do instances to get better armor and even to be able to complete our professions. It is so hard to get groups together..then the drops don’t always happen and now you are facing trying to get a group together again..There are so many of us that don’t run instances or do Bg’s so why can’t we get better armor and be able to do our professions all the way to 375?..Just not fair ..They even make it bop..so we can’t get it in ah or from a friend..
I can see where you guys are coming from, I also went the solo road for my first half of my WoW time. Generally speaking though (I know there are probably several exceptions) instance drops, including the crafting patterns that drop there, are designed for those who are progressing into higher content and in the case of WoW, higher content almost always involves multiple people in some mass group effort. If you prefer not to do instances or bgs and want to just have fun on your own, then I think you need to ask yourself if you really Need anything that drops there anyways if you have no intention of moving beyond solo play. I have my own guild now of extremely casual friends and players, the only raiding we do is Kara and that’s good enough for us, we have fun and spend time together. That said, that doesn’t mean I don’t Want full T6 and the legendary bow from Kil’Jaden for my hunter, but honestly, at the level I’m at right now, I don’t need any of that. I’m almost full epic with heroic drops and badge gear, all slowly acquired through my time as a 70 and I’m happy. So I guess this was more a response to Cat’s post, but to both them and Uber, if what you have gearwise, etc, works for you, then just stick with what you have and rock out with solo play. Sure, better gear will help you level a little faster, but quest reward items have been greatly improved generally speaking. If you really feel the need to get better gear though, then you’re just going to have to learn to get into instances and the whole multiplayer aspect that is a huge part of WoW.
If you are having trouble finding instance groups, download a mod called Polite Whisper. I try to travel light when it comes to mods (having too many can make it a pain when new patches come out), but this is one that I would not try to go without (along with auctioneer). It will allow you to throw together a PUG in less than five minutes most of the time. You can spam down a list by class/level and even denote whether you are looking for that class to tank/heal/DPS. There is even a do not invite list for those who you find to be utter n00bs or jerks, that way you don’t accidentally invite them some other time. You can find the mod on curse.com, though I am sure that it is available on other mod sites as well.

I mean seriously, its hard to get groups in WoW. Are you sure your playing the right game? Instance groups are a dime a dozne ( now good groups are a diffrent story, but thats why you make friends and join a guild) and as far as having to do instances, or BG’s to get better gear that is just the nature of MMORPG’s, your not going to get the best gear soloing, if thats what you want there are plenty of good single player RPG’s out there. You gotta group to get the good, and you gotta raid to get the best, thats just how it is. Man that pisses me off
wats up with the guild thing i started a priest on that realm for the guild
2 money making questions. 1 about Dominations(Best Guild Ever IMO)
How big is the market currently for selling things like certificate of ownerships, vellums, and recall scrolls. Things done by inscription that aren’t Glyphs in other words.
What in your opinion is the best twink glyphs and talents for a 19 twinks?I want to know what glyphs I can sell to them for the highest profit. I have been doing backstab but ambush sells well too.
I would love to join domination I am an experienced player but I don’t play on your server and don’t want to transfer. Can I start a new toon and join up?
Hey DYS,
My question is in regards to gold farming. My hunter is not my main but is my herb collecter and scribe. A epic mount would make farming herbs much much easier so what would you reccomend as the best way to make up that 5k gold as quickly as possible. Also I too love the idea of the DYS guild but would need to know specifics such as a raid schedule and things like that. My main is an Aliiance holy priest and am currently on the Thunderlord server but will be transferring on 27th.
You should listen to their first podcast before asking a question that may have been answered before. DYS doesn’t really promote “farming” for your gold; Gavin mentioned he never farms and has only done 2-3 dailies EVER. I wouldn’t plan on transferring yet either. They plan on making a Horde guild and will only go the alli route if there’s more interest (boooo!)
If 60 of us transfer to Fenris(30 ally, 30 horde) for the guild….how are we going to dominate the AH since we keep hearing how its dominated already?
The search feature on my auctioner is gone now that I updated the program. It has become harder to find those good deals it used to find for me. How do you find the good deals now? It seems to take much longer now to dominate the AH the way I used to.
Lee
My question is also about auctioneer. I use to run scans 2-3 times a day and it would take 5-8 minutes per scan. Since the update for the patch I have not yet been able to complete one scan because it just takes way to long. It would take @ 2hrs to finish a scan the way it goes now. I have yet to make it all the way through even scanning the armor. Am I missing something or is this how it is going to be now?
I think u may be doing something wrong, or u have a very slow connection. I scan on 2 different computers, and it only takes me lik 11-13 min
I use a cable connection so I really don’t think that is it. I never had any of these issues until after the last patch. I downloaded the latest version and everything went to hades. Any advice would be most appreciated thnx.
I’ve heard stories about farming the Elite tree monsters in Skettis and getting tons of gold per hour because of the herbs they drop. Is there truth to this, and are they worth farming?
These things are great to farm, but there are a few catches. First, they don’t actually “drop” the herbs, when the mob dies you have to have herbalism and “skin” them with herbalism skill. Each one does drop, when “skinned” alot of herbs (around 8 and up) and they also drop motes of life. Another catch is that there are only a few of them that spawn and they are usually heavily farmed. But, if you are an herbalist, and you catch it where you are the only one farming, yes you can make a ton of money there. Also they are level 70 and 71 elite. So they are soloable if you know what you are doing, but it can be difficult for some classes and for some people who may not be as “dominating” on their specific toon.
In a post a few weeks back or so, there was info on farming herbs in terrokar forest including the great drops from the elite tree guys. I’ve farmed them myself on my hunter many times and if you can solo them or have a friend willing to help you out, they are definitely worth the effort. There are only about 4 spawning points and they take about 5 or 6 minutes to spawn at each location so it’s fairly annoying if you have any competition. If you try to farm them and there’s more than one other person doing the same, you may as well leave unless you can run them out or beat them to the kills. You must beware though, some a**hole people will simply be vultures and try to herb the trees once you kill them so be careful when you loot to check and make sure no one’s waiting to steal your hard work away.
On my server there is 64 pages of glyphs (over 3000) and there doesnt seem that any1 knows how to price them! There are some glyphs priced at 2-5g and then there are others priced at over 50g, sometimes the same glyphs are priced at this range. herbs are almost as bad atm too. 70g for a stack of Khadgar’s Whisker
Please advise, atm im a bit poor (60-70g) bcos my friend believes primal might is the way to money, PLEASE advise!
Elfofdark, 56 Balancee Druid, Quel Thalas
I was wondering what greens are better for leveling some classes according to stats as most people are poor/cheap and cant/wont buy blue+
What does WotLK hold for the current crop of 350-skill blue gem recipes? Is it worth is to start the process of purchasing the patterns for a new JC or will those start to be seen at vendors after the expansion comes out?
Hey DYS what is the new dps warrior build? i do not like giving up ap for hit rating so TG is out of the question for me. thanks guys!
I started up 2 of my friends on RAF accounts, but have just done some messing around with class combinations so far up to about level 10. I’ve always found group questing to be more fun and I want our group to DOMINATE! In your experience, what specs of what classes tend to compliment eachother in groups of 2 or 3 to make the ultimate leveling team? Thanks DYS!
i’ve been lvling a druid and paladin together, its brilliant fun, retri paladin, resto druid. aoe farm 5 or so mobs at the same lvl as you, with zero downtime
if you have a high lvl character, and just want your friends to lvl, or aren’t linked, boosting is obscenely fast.
lvl 10-20 deadmines, 20-28 or so, stockades,
up ot 40 with SM cathedral, you can go a little higher, but its not worth it anymore, just as fast to quest.
Hello! Thanks to your advice, I made over 8000 gold selling glyphs. My question is, what do I do with 8000 gold?
lol
id say give it to Gavin sine u made it with his advise
What do you feel is the best choice to level in wrath, my nelf druid or my undead rogue?
Hey Gavin, I was wondering about the addon situation with the new patch because all my addons are screwed up, even cartographer. Also I would like a way to rake in the gold and get cash mony fast
I have 3 Questions. 1 is addons for new patch, 2 is how to make some serious gold, 3 is how to get good epics fast.
Hey DYS just wandering how the guild thing is coming. Id really like to join it by transferring my new 70 blood elf hunter, so some news on it would be wonderful.
thanks, Chris
Hiya DYS team,
My question is concerning the new potions nerf during combat. I didn’t see anything about it in the patch notes and found out the hard way during my guild’s Curator encounter right after the patch that you can only drink one potion per fight now because the cooldown will not start until you are out of combat. Any idea or info on why they did this and if there’s any chance they’re going to change this back? My priest has pretty high bonus healing (spellpower now I guess) and is therefore a little lower than I’d like with her mana regen. After the patch my regen got even worse and that combined with the potions nerf means lots of oom times. Any info or suggestions on ways to cope would be much appreciated.
Thanks
I would suggest farming appropriate gear for these encounters in heroice/dungeons or another way u could do things is use a dps set and go shadow in which case u going oom won’t be so much of a concern and you will still be able to pick up some healing gear.
Unfortunately, going shadow isn’t an option for me right now as I am my guild’s main healer and respecing every week is not something I want to deal with. I have very good gear atm, all epic badge/crafted/heroic/za gear, and it’s not specific encounters I’m having problems with, just my regen in all occasions seems to have gone down the tube compared to pre patch numbers. The only thing I can think of to do is regem my stuff for heavy mana regen… or seriously rethink my heal style which has been working fine for me till now… but.. if there’s any chance of these nerfs getting changed at all then I’d rather wait it out. Of course, with the xpac around the corner.. I’ve been asking myself if it really matters at this point lol. So… idk… I do appreciate the suggestions though, thank you.
I found that even with the potions nerf my Priest does quite well – I don’t seem to use up as much mana as I used to when healing
I may have found some solutions to my issues…
I did need to adjust my healing style a little bit, not much though, and like you Nyla, now I don’t seem to use as much mana as I used to. Also, because my priest is a night elf, I made the connection that if I use my shadowmeld for a moment (2 min cd) after I take a potion, it usually takes me out of combat and allows my potion cd to restart. So looks like I’m back in business as usual. Obviously this would only work for other nightelves, but it’s a nice little trick to keep in mind if you tend to use potions a lot.
Evening DYS Team!
Getting quite excited about the next podcast. Hope its as enjoyable as the last one
If you have time I have a question about Large Prismastic Shards.
At the moment these are very cheap (around 10g each, was nearer 30g a month ago) Do you think its worth buying any to re-sell at the start of Wotlk? e.g will there be a temporary surge in demand for them
Many thanks!
Since WOLK is coming out, once you get to 70, is it worth finishing the quests in outland? Or is it better to just do BGs or Raids to get better gear? If so, is it faster to do BGs or Raids?
Dear DYS, as a rogue i find that usually we are called the plague of WoW, and many think we need to be erradicated permanently. I want your guys’s opinion on if rogues in Wotlk ,and even pre Wotlk… are we still worth grouping with in PvP,Arena, or PvE or are we going extinct? and my second question is ” I play on Stonemaul and am constantly struggling to make ends meet gold wise. I have skinning at around 325 but need another profession that doesn’t see the light of day alot since people have nasty habit of just flooding the Auction House without mercy with mats of all kinds etc. this in turn has turned many money making items into laughing stocks. Is there a way to remedy this to my advantage of making alot of gold or am I just unlucky? please help with your all knowing wisdom and ever “DOMINATING” advice. ~Jaredith
My question, is kinda a general question. I have asked people in my guild, and they don’t really understand it either, but what are glyphs used for. I just want to know what can you use them for. Are they like talents, where they improve certain attacks? Or are they for something else. I really want know.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Again!
I’d just like to say thanks. The inscription guide was awesome & worked perfect. Even with all the server probs & dc’s & lag, I still managed to make about 1500g by the end of patch day. I love inscription! Anyway i was wondering first off if minor glyphs in the 375-450 range that will come w/ wotlk
will be learned thru research also or learned from the upper level trainers? 2nd
I was wondering if primal nether/nether vortex/heart of darkness will be used to craft anything in wrath or will they just be something only used up to level 70 & then discarded for the new drop mat? If so then getting rid of any leftovers would probably be a good idea & the same for badges of justice i asssume?
Maybe using leftover badges to pick up some epic gems might be the way to go.
I’m open to any ideas/ suggestions.
Thanks again
WOW! All I gotta say is I love herbalism now after dropping LW. I took your advice a bit late…3days before patch release. I farmed my way to 375 completing that yesterday but selling all my herbs in the process. I made over 1500gold just from leveling to 375. If I would have done that sooner….it would be an enormous amount. I gotta ask, if glyphs are being sold for 2-3gold and range from 2g to 40/70gold should I buyout all the glyphs I can and reprice them on hoping to make a profit. Lemme know if that would be considered “working” the auction house to make a decent profit.
Thanks
Tinn (70 Dwarf Hunter Draka)
PS: I would transfer in a heartbeat to be in the guild if it were alliance

Boy am I surprised at the general nubness of the questions being asked here. One guy didn’t even know what Inscription was! If the large portion of DYS readers play like this then I can rest easy when putting the advice into practice. On a separate note, I’m worried that once Domination takes off on Fenris that the quality of advice being given here will be substandard to the practices or advice given to your guild members.
Sorry, but I am starting to be frustrated with people thinking raiding is so easy, considering all the time I have raided…the thing I hate most is people who think they know everything and just aren’t good at raiding. RAIDING is hard to do successfully. You need to join a successful guild, doing public groups (PUGS) is not worth it for everyone thinking they can just jump into a raid and get gear. To start raiding first you must apply to a guild and usually wont be a guild that is progressed into the Sunwell or Black Temple or Mount Hyjal. You will have to start with Kara, get gear tokens with rolling or using dkp which can take a while to accumulate then possibly get gear. It can take weeks, months to get to the gear you want. It isn’t a “hey…I want better gear. I am going to raid now” process it is much more complicated then that. If you want gear with little effort, and just takes a little time to get then go PVP in BG’s and get some welfare gear, Arena is different and takes some skill, communication, and coordination of efforts.
Sorry for the frustration but just take a look at some of the fights in 25 man raids and see what you wanna do.

hey DYS!
i plan to go 1-70 in one very long session with my friend in a few week’s time, using the recruit a friend system, and i am rolling an enhancement shaman and he is rolling an affliction warlock.
my question is, how important are class specific quests? for example, my totem quests, or the warlock pet quests? i guess we will need an imp and voidwalker minimum, but i wasnt sure… we want to really dominate and thought, who better to ask than the dominating masters! i would love to hear your answers!
How can one dominate their AH when the majority of the server undercuts everything. I’m not talking 1-2g less than something else, I’m talking selling high end goods FOR 1-2g… I’ve tried to buy all the low stuff and resell, only to go broke because some idiot floods the market with 20 of the item (ore, herbs, glyphs, doesn’t matter)… Example – Glyphs. Average price on Auctioneer has items going for 90-150% value, then here comes 20 of the same high glyphs at 2-20% value… It seriously kills everything… Owning the herbs is useless too, that market more or less got tanked after a week
How can I curb the losses these market killers cause without going broke in the process?
Hey DYS people, im just about 70 and im trying to get money for my flying mount. Is there an easy way to get cash that doesn’t invole proffessions or sitting at the auction house all day?
I was wondering which server/realm on average has the best AH prices??
Are you seriously asking this? lol
Hey DYS people, im just about to hit 70 and im trying to get money for my flying mount. Is there an easy way to get cash that doesn’t invole proffessions or sitting at the auction house all day? (If i accidentally sent this twice im sorry)
Levelling inscription in a day has helped me for the 1st time in my WOW history to actually get a sizable ammount of gold. I made 5000g selling minor glyphs. What I want to know is what is the best way for me to now improve on this sum of money and keep increasing my gold stack with the minimal ammount of time spent. I would quite like to be able to buy the Mammoth mount in WOTLK but dont want it to break my bank
/Rant – I used to like reading this site because of all the tips, but come on, what you’re doing here is ruining the game, general tips about classes, specs, gear, thats what a guide should be about. Not trying to get rich. You’re screwing over your fellow faction members. Remember the good old days when you didnt have to shut your eyes while posting stacks of Nightmare vine for 18g? All it takes is for one sped to post a new item to farm and abuse. Now every gympy kid out there is a herbalist, every halfwit tried to level Inscription and failed, every moron is farming motes and charging rediculous prices. Money in wow only gets you so far. If you want to play a game where all you do is scam people, undercut people and try to play people, go play Second Life. WoW used to be fun, wow used to be really fun. If it were intended to be a money race then there wouldn’t be faction specific auction houses. Large bank balances should take effort to get, there are no ‘Get Rich Quick’ schemes, prime example is the guy above me. Why do you think you can’t buy complete sets of epic/crafted gar? Because there are so many lazy people out there who never leave the path between the AH, the mailbox and their bloody Inscription trainer. The day Blizzard puts a price tag on any tier sets, is the day several thousand people jump off Aldor Rise. /end rant.
You’re other guides Gavin have been interesting and helpful however, keep up the good work.
Also, check your spelling on your posts guys, what are you, retards?
“All it takes is for one sped” – what’s a sped?
“charging rediculous prices” – it’s spelled ridiculous
“You’re other guides Gavin” – you must mean Your other guides, not You are other guides
Amen.
Any advice on warlock PVE/Raiding builds that will be worth playing? After the severe beating of the warlock class with he Nerf bat it has been hard to stay motivated to play the class any more.
try wowmb.net … i recently rolled a lock post patch and am running a destucto build for pve and pvp (although it is a little harder). great builds on there, great advice on gear/ spell rotations
would doing dungeons once in a while be worth the gear or should one just lvl like mad then worry about gear later?
any idea when part 2 of the inscription guide wil be out
With the Lich King expansion coming out, I have heard that flying mounts wont be allowed until around 77 in northrend and then only through a special quest. Does the same go for our land mounts, will they have to go through climate training, and if so, what level will that be at? and now that I am on the subject of animals, with the frozen wastlands that we will be encountering, what hunters pet is recommended for the new expansion, as in what would be more advantageous to its new suroundings?
with the 2 starting areas in the expansion where should we start with our toons and why
Hi folks, created a druid on fenris with the intent of hopefully joining DYS; and bring over my 60s and 70s if the experience is favorable. What day/time would be best to check this out?
since LK just released prices in the ah are very inflated on certain crafting and enchanting items. ive been looking to “corner” a market in the ah for some time and have failed in the past due to the items that i picked were just not in that high of a demand and a lack of funding. is there any special time to start to corner something, like when everyone gets leveled? or any special items that look of interest to the dys bankers? and is there a safe amount of capital i need to secure before thinking of this kind of stuff? i currently have about 10k and would love to flip it into 20 or even 30k, but would hate to fail again, sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance
