DYS Goes On The Air!
Posted on October 14th, 2008 by Lawbringer under Podcast, World of Warcraft, WotLKYou heard that right. Well, maybe it’s better to say you WILL be able to hear us right! DYS is going to bring you a weekly podshow that you can get right through your RSS subscription and here at the site. We’ve designed the show to make DYS an even more valuable resource tool for all of our readers.
Your hosts will be Gavingarrett, the Tauren Hunter, and Moneybagguns, the shameless capitalist Gnome Mage. Every Friday, these two toons lay aside their differences (and try not to think about honorable kills) for a while and meet in their studio overlooking Booty Bay. (We have a bruiser posted right outside the door to make sure things don’t go too badly).
Every Monday we’ll give you a chance to ask questions that we will answer during the podcast. Then each Friday you can Get the answers straight from Gavin and Moneybagguns!
Gavin knows the game inside and out, and his alter ego from the game is ready to fill you in on how he completely Dominates every aspect of game play. Moneybagguns (aka Lawbringer’s evil AH market mage) has agreed to let you in on his secrets to WoW wealth.
In their studio, under the hot Stranglethorn Vale sun (and no air conditioning we might add) they take their spots in front of the golden DYS mike and get in depth with your questions.
The DYS podcast will even bring you special guests. We’ll find the latest breaking news and tidbits to keep you ahead of everyone else so you can truly Dominate. Our two experts will be able to help you take your game to a completely new level.
The podcast will air every Friday once they’ve had a chance to review your questions. Now, we can’t promise they will answer every single one, but they have assured us that they will do their very best to give everyone a chance to get their comments on the show. You simply cannot get coverage this complete (or fun) anywhere else on the web.
Since this IS Monday, you might as well get started right away. Post your questions below and we’ll send them to our hosts for the very first show this Friday! That’s right, the first DYS podcast goes on the air this Friday!
Post your questions for Gavin and Moneybagguns in the comments below and then join us on Friday. You just thought DYS was good, we’re about to give you to a whole new way to get informed, get bad, and get to Dominating.
Get those questions in now and we look forward to meeting you back here Friday for the first weekly edition of the DYS podcast show. Gavin and Moneybaggins have also been kind enough to introduce themselves for you! Just click the play below to listen right now.

OMG Gavin’s a tauren! You look just like my druid.

I appreciate you guy’s efforts to make the game more fun and lucrative for us regular folk. I bought the Inscription guide last night, and I’m impressed! You put LOTS of effort into it. Consider it partial payback for all the free advice
WOW !
This will be interesting I can already tell. You guys do a great job and thanks for all you do. I have used several of your tips already to boost gold. Problem so far for me is not the making it part but the not spending it part lol you have any advice or councelling groups for spendaholics lol.
Too funny man. I’ve made about 3k gold a week for as long as I can remember. If I had kept it all I would well over 200k gold, but I’m a spender too. So I’m not sure we can help you there. I guess it boils down to two things:
If you just stopped playing, you would never spend much gold if all you were doing was trying to see how much gold you could make = not super fun.
If you are progressing, there is always something to spend gold on. What good is having the stuff if you’re just going to sock it away? I spend a LOT of gold testing things out. I spend a lot of gold gearing up the wife’s toons. I spend a lot speculating on markets. But overall the total keeps going up, and I never could possibly run out, so that’s the most fun for me.
Sounds like you fall into that category. Just make more than you can spend and who cares what the leftover total is eh?
See I mam looking at it all wrong I new there was a simple solution lol.
Hey guys!
I’ve been following you for years, and I love it. The podcast sounds like a FANTASTIC idea. I’d much rather you did your real voices though. We’d think no better of you, and it’d be a bit more ‘real’
If those are your real voices, then I’m very, very sorry.
xxx
Oh man oh man oh man. Being able to ask Gavin Garrett questions about gold farming. This’ll be good.
Here’s my question: What would say is the best way to farm gold at lower levels, for example, below level 30?
Aarons last blog post..The Forum Is Up
hmmm… ok, can you tell me the fastest way to make money from nothing. i spent all mine on herbs, but there isn’t much inflation on my realm so far. anyway, apart from dailies and more dalies, how do i gather a quick 1k gold
Hey guys, total noob to WoW here, playing my first toon. I find DYS both immensely helpful and a little overwhelming.
As a level 41 NE Hunter I have a way to go before I can take advantage of some of the best tips, and a lot to learn about the AH (With AADV of course) and how it works. But I am sitting on a bigger chunk of gold than I thought possible at this point even after paying for all my training, professions, gear, and funding a druid alt. Thanks!
Maybe you could throw out some tips aimed specifically toward the 40 - 60s? Honestly right now I am feeling a little baffled by the sheer amount of options and would love some guidance. Do I save gold for gear? Do I build rep and honor? Should I be doing as many instances as possible or just questing? Which gets me the best gear? I am leveling pretty quickly even going solo most of the time so that is not an issue.
I am checking out the leveling guides so I am sure I can get a lot of answers there, but maybe you have some gold nuggets for those of us who haven’t hit the 60’s yet.
This is going to be great, I can’t wait to hear what you guys come up with.
gavin have you tried to set a new speed record for leveling and how long did it take to get to 80
As far as I know, I’ve got the record. I solo leveled a Blood Elf Hunter to 70 in 4 days, 21 hours (no twinking, no assistance, etc) about a month and a half ago, while putting together my Horde Leveling Guide.
I won’t do a 1-80 speed run until after WotLK comes out, because I don’t want the time messed up from beta bugs, and I want to take advantage of the increased XP from 60-70 in patch 3.0.2.
-Gavin
I think there is someone who did it in 4 days and 20 hours, no joke.
It’s a joke without valid documentation. Someone? Who? When? Where? We’ll see how it all plays out over the coming weeks, but no guide will be faster and nobody will beat Gavin’s time when he puts his mind to it.
will he be using a BM hunter or shadow priest? Both are great for power leveling
I always use a BM hunter for “official” speed runs. Mainly because that’s the standard that all the other speed runners seem to use. If I used a different class, then you’re not talking apples-to-apples when comparing times.
cool stuff man, Love this site - what got me into power leveling a shadow priest ( lvl 46 with 2 days 17 hours played). But it will be nice to hear a voice for a change anyway keep up the good work.
Suggestion: how about forums? So people can actually post things of their own.
i think this podcast is an awesome idea guys!!! and my question is “what can we expect in wotlk to be the biggest gold maker?”
Now that I am 70 and have my Merciless armor set for the BG’s, what is next, my guild is not big enough to do the big raids for the end game stuff yet (only about 10 level 70 members). We have roughly 50 members in the guild and they all belong to about 10 different people with mains and alts lol. So I guess I am wondering how you actually build guild membership for a new young guild?
TECH question:
Is there a way to pull AADV or addon files outt of the WOW folder so you do not have to loose your data in AADV if WOW crashes? My friend had to reinstall wow and lost all his aadv info this weekend right before the patch goes live he is very mad.
Is it possible to put the patches already downloaded onto your desk top in case of a WOW failure so after you reinstall you do not have to download them again all you have to do is reinstall them?
Gold Farming:
Is it worth while to farm low level instances (Scarlet Manistary, Dire Maul, That place in the badlands lol) at level 70 for auctionable items or do you suggest just going straight for the bosses and vendoring their items?
I figured I should actually ask a question or three lol.
Here’s a question I always struggle with. Is it possible to have a life and still be a hardcore raider? I tried it for a while, but being unemployed in real life was kind of a requirement for all the gold farming and late nights.
http://www.joanasworld.com/
this was the guide i was talking about lawbringer
LOL - then it IS a joke. Read CAREFULLY sir. he is claiming a record time of 4 days 20 hours to level 60! Gavin went to 70 in 4 days 21 hours. Take your pick!
Yes, you are correct.
hey long time reader here, question for you guys whats the average time it takes you to level a character between 1-70 and whats a good way to conserve not spending money? been trying to save for my flier nothing so far past 100g and then it disapates into repairs and other junk i really dont need. anything would be helpfull
Podcast sounds great, but I have to agree with Ilithien - I can’t do the RP voices. Its really distracting and unfortunately a deal breaker for me. That’s cool if you guys still want to do it but I just can’t
Very cool idea, though, and I wish you both luck. Thanks for the awesome Inscrip. guide - wish the darn servers would get going hehe.
Matt
What a fuddy-duddy.
You play the game ALL THE TIME lol. How in the world do you ever survive all the distraction of all those RP voices everywhere? That’s just silly. Try to do something entertaining and original . . .
(sigh)
Wewt if you need cash sell tuxedo patterns, they sell in IF and UC
pants
shirt
jacket
Hi guys,
Will be interesting to hear you on the podcast!
I have a question I would love your views on.
On average, how much gold do you think most level 70 players have? I know a couple of people on my server who are rich, some who have a few thousand saved and then just as many who have under 1000g. Its not that crazily rare in trade chat to find a level 70 trying to sell something quickly so that they can pay for repairs!
Thanks
Hey guys! I have a question. I want to make more gold as a lvl 54 and I dont have lots of time to focus on the AH. It feels like unless you are constantly watching the AH, you barely make any gold. So I’d like to hear about some more tips and places for farming to make gold. Thanks!
I love DYS

Will you be on Itunes?
gahh i hate myself…. for a week or so i thought i was done wwith wow and wasnt gunna play again………. till my friend brught me back ahaha… but i gave away myHERbs for inscription tat i was planning to level (which sucks!!!!!) and all my money to really close guild mates. and now im trying to get atleast my herbs back dont care as mch about the money as i do herbs…. i = failure right now. but advice if u think ur gunna quit NEVER give ur stuff away that has value in the game.
O and ty for everythign gavin
Is anyone having trouble downloading the patch? I get all the way to the end on both the updater and downloader then it says insufficient space? I still have 7 gigs left and it says it only takes one. What’s up with this? Also when i went to ask on the forums it appears that the WoW website is down. Anyone else having these problems?
so my question for the podcast is, i dont really wana buy a leveling guide. Not because i dont think i would befit from it but i think it would seem to much like using a cheet code in another game. However every few levels there seems to be a small area that i just have to kill things to be able to do the next quest line. maybe its just me, but any small tips to get around grind that extra 5 bars?
This is gonna be so awesome can’t wait to see it to bad I don’t play WoW anymore but the articles are still entertaining and informative. I have one question though What advice would you give somebody that’s completely new to the game starting at lvl 1 who wants to know how to dominate everything from lvling to making money?
I am having trouble getting on my mai realm tonight almost 11 PM here and I have still not been able to play. I hate patch day. Any suggestion oh how to get my WOW fix for the day lol?
Question: Do you think Ret Pallys are now Overpowered? I mean, i’m a ret pally and even I think it’s ridiculous. Love to hear your Point of view.
I remember when we used to play together Gavin, i was your officer on that server we all whent to, but things didn’t work out, everyone jsut left that server
well these few weeks were great time
Hope we could redo that again someday, but for longer
I remember you, GavinDruid - good to hear from you!
Lawbringer and I are considering starting a new guild for WotLK… it depends on if there’s a bunch of our readers that want to start over fresh somewhere (or transfer their 70s to a new server)
-Gavin
Here was my way of making 5k gold over 1 month. This may be wrong on your server but on my server, void crystals have dropped dirt cheap around 25g per and large prismatics went down to about 20g per. I hated the idea that people kept on putting their large prismatics just 1g less than mines. So I had the idea of just buy void crystals then use my enchanter to void shatter the void crystal (void shatter turns the void crystal into 2 large prismatic shards). Then I started selling my large prismatics for 15g each. That’s a net gain of 28g50s with the AH cut. This means I made about 3g50s from just shattering void crystals. I’ve been buying out a lot of void crystals and the gold just keeps on piling up. The reason I put it at 15g is because I have a lot of large prismatics on hand from the void shatter and simply because I want them to sell quick because people will still be putting void crystals for around 25g. The large prismatic shard market has stayed around 15g with at least 1 page dedicated to my AH toon. Hope this helps out us lazy gold farmers. As with a lot of people, I found WoW to be boring the last few months and this is basically the only thing that interests me now before WotLK comes out.
Hi guys,
This is off topic. But I kind of had a chat with a GM and he said that blizz would not be hosting a download for WOTLK till sometimes after the release. What can we do? the people who went anc purchased the xpacs from offgamers? Can you plz help out in this regards?
Thnx
my question is simple. the prices for glyphs are abismal im thinking of just buying out all the 10g glyps and putting them in for 25-35g. is this a sound strategy?
I’m gonna answer that one now because I don’t want you to rush into making a mistake.
If you’ve been collecting herbs for awhile at low prices, you should be able to sell your glyphs for the 5-7g price range and still profit (not as much as hoped, but you’ll still be ahead). So, take a look at supply levels - if there are literally TONS of glyphs around 10g, sell yours for 9g (check your mill prices to make sure you’re not losing money).
Wait 48 hours for all the leveling dump auctions (that’s when people leveling inscription dump all the stuff they created onto the auction house at moronic prices) to expire unsold, and the people who made them will give them away or vendor them (they probably won’t relist them a second time). That’s when you swoop in and relist your glyphs, but shoot for more reasonable prices.
If there’s a lot of scribes on your server, I would NOT try to corner the market on any majors… because you could end up losing your shirt if a bunch of new people pick up inscription behind you and start relisting for low prices again.
Look to corner the minor inscriptions… if you got a good minor, sell the heck out of it. If you see someone else listing other minors for low prices, grab them and resell those… but I wouldn’t do it with majors.

I have a game key question. If I buy a game key from OffGamers and load WoTLK, say the game glitches to the point where I have to reload the game, would all I have to do is put in the code again and Blizz will let me redownload the game? I don’t think it would be worth it to me to buy the download without a disc if this is the case. But help me out here.
Looking forward to your podcast. Here’s my question (although I figure it’s too late in the week for you to answer it): Sometimes while leveling through BC farming worked better than questing because there were some easy kills with exp and a good opportunity for gold (Sunfurys near Black Temple come to mind). What areas should we look forward to in WOLK to provide similar opportunities?
Thank You
Hi Guys! Long-time listener, first-time caller.
I’ve been playing almost 2 yrs.(over 20 toons on 3 srvrs), and due to my catch-as-catch-can playing style, prefer to solo. As such, I’ve never done an arena or raid, and just occasionally party for instances as well as help out any toons in trouble I pass along the way. I enjoy soloing and have no desire to change my ways, so short story long, how can one best enjoy and succeed in WoW by taking the lonesome road less traveled?
Thanks in advance, and keep up the outstanding work!
First of all guys, I don’t like buying stuff from the internet and Im not a “guide-guy”. That being said, I’ve been a fan of you boys for a couple years and thought that I would purchase the Inscription guide merely to show my support. I didn’t take it very seriously and started leveling/buying herbs on my level 58. I only got to 60 by patch day and still I made 1300g in 2 hours (the day AFTER patch mind you, had downloading troubles). Your guide was sick. I wont doubt you again
and thanks.
Secondly, for the podcast: what I’d like to hear is yours and Law’s opinion on crafting. I’m talking goodold Leather/Tailor/Smith crafting. Do you believe it’s really worth the time/money/effort to get the decent patterns? Is it easier to go for raid drops and arena gear? I’ve never seen this topic from you guys and I’ve always been curious, and lacked the gold to experiment (until your Inscr. guide
) I’m not asking if they’re worth it for money-making purposes…just gear. Thanks DYS team, keep it up!
wow law hate to say it but for my realm inscrition is a bust…. 4g a Glyph on average for a major and 10g for a minor…id like to ask should i just buyout all the low stuff for future sales?.. is there a way you can help teach us to play the market better and increase the overall price and value of glyphs?
I recently downloaded the new patch and I have a problem: all of my addons have become out of date and too buggy to use. These addons include Titan panel, threat meter, auctioneer, lil sparky, btm scanner, and many others. So my question is: When will I be able to get new versions of these addons, and where should I be looking. Also, until I get them, is there any way for me to still use the addons without them being full of bugs?
Curse.com has a list of updated addon for 3.0, you can take a look at them.
deadly boss mods works as does recount and omen3
now that we have a look at the new prof. I want to ask what is coming after 375 on all the professions? will there still have mote farming in Northrend? addition mat need to max the prof.?
actually its a kind of mote farming i was looking thru thottbot.com …and i seen that you need frozen elemental stuff for leatherworking and a few of the proffessions..
so we should keep farming fire mote now? or sell them all? if we only need new stuff to lvl, the mote need is not as important in WoLK and price will go down?
