Podcast Questions Thread

Posted by Lawbringer in General Tips

It’s that time of the week again, and you can post your questions below.  We get questions a little scattered around because people seem to still be a bit confused (or impatient :) ) about where to put them.  We certainly will do everything we can to do this thread on Monday, but as you can see we had three other bits of news to post yesterday and we needed to get them out quick.  They were nearly too late as it was.

Anyway, every Monday or Tuesday we will give you this opportunity to ask your questions.  So hold onto those and chew on them over the weekends until you see this thread.  That way we’ll be sure not to miss anything juicy that gets hidden in the hundreds of other comments on other topics.    We’ll see you on Friday!

Beginning To Completely Dominate

Posted by Lawbringer in General Tips, Instances, World of Warcraft

The Domination has begun.  221 Members on 174 accounts – with 15 level 70’s.  But besides just flat out guild size, we’re also talking about playing big.  It’s been a wild few days, and we thought it would be a good idea to give you a preview of what you’ve been missing, as well as some information on the world event for those of you who just can’t bear to join us for whatever reason.

We cleared 100 members the first four hours on Friday.  Saturday night, the 70’s began spanking the world event and collecting the nice epic sets available.  If you haven’t yet participated in the world scourge attacks, check out our recent articles about strategies for scourge invasion crystals and Tenris Murkblood.

But the one bit of the event we just have to show off takes place when you seek out and kill Tenris Mirkblood in the kitchen upstairs in the servant’s quarters in Karazhan.  Five of us grabbed a spot in a pug and got to Dominating.

During the run, Gavin got the Arcanite Ripper from Tenris, a killer axe that also double as a guitar.  Here’s Gavin’s toon Shootandloot with Lawbringer on Sherpaman on the bank in org jamming to his new blade.

Lawbringer also picked up a couple of nice healing epics for his priest, but that wasn’t the best part.  One of our veteran members of Domination, one Vizsla, rogue, won the roll for the Fiery Warhorse’s Reigns.  Check out the screenshot below of the loot in Kara, as well as Vizsla on the Huntsman’s steed at the top of this post.  Now that’s Dominant loot!

So if you had any doubts about the guild idea, I would say we are off to a pretty good start.  All six bank tabs and a host of toons doing everything from whipping event bosses to leveling (some new toons already at level 30+ after just 3 days) to getting seriously epic loot.  If this is how we start, imagine where we’ll be in a few months.

Don’t put it off any longer, if you play horde, get in now before WotLK and come Dominate with us as we power through Northrend mashing everything in our path.  With the roaring success of Dominate on the horde side, we might just have to Dominate both sides once we get past the debut of WotLK. Until then, stick around for more tips from Dominate Your Server.  And no matter where you go in the World of Warcarft, always Dominate.

Tenris Mirkblood And His Axe

Posted by Gavin in General Tips

There are a number of special bosses in instances throughout Azeroth during the zombie invasion event, but the new face is Tenris Mirkblood. Ok, it’s not a pretty face, but new is always a good thing. We wanted to give you Kara capable folks a few pointers on this guy since he will only be around for a few more days.

Tenris resides in the servant’s quarters of Karazhan. He’s not that difficult to kill if you know what to expect, and you also get a shot at grabbing some loot from Atuumen as well on the way. So get up a group, get yourselves to Kara, and go Dominate this guy.

Fight your way through Atuumen, and then clear the room with the repair guy and head upstairs. Clear all the mobs around the large circle in the tower there so you have plenty of room to move – you’ll need it to take most of the pain out of the Tenris encounter.

Once all the trash is out of the way, open the kitchen door and Tenris will pop out ready to suck your blood. He even looks a little batty. Tenris uses two special abilities that can be a bit of a pain, but are fairly easy to counter.

The first is a soul link. He will attach himself to one of your party members with a bright red ribbon of light. When he does this, stop all damage on Tenris. Any DPS aimed at him will also damage your party member. A few crits on Tenris and you lose one of your buddies, so be quick with that escape key.

Next, there will be a lot of little red, floating, glowing orbs that spawn during the fight. Stay away form them and everything is good. Get in the middle of a bunch of them = bad. So what you need to do is keep Tenris moving around the circle from room to room. By the time you make a complete circuit, the orbs will be gone. Keep him moving and you’ll be ok.

Tenris has a very small loot table. He drops a bat non-combat pet for every party member. (Nice if you’re trying to hit the pet collection achievement and don’t want to buy all of them). He can drop badges, and he has an axe called the Arcanite Ripper. The ripper is a two hander, that also double as an air guiter – erh, axe guitar, steel guitar… Anyway, if you can equip this thing, you can right click it to be transformed into an undead and get a little guitar jamming animation sequence complete with guitar riffs everyone around you can hear.

So pick up the quest for this in EPL at Light’s Hope and then get your team to Kara right away and get your bats. That’s not the only loot we picked up last night doing this run, but we’ll tell you more about that in the next post. Until then, make plans to go and Dominate this dude.

Scourge Invasion Tips For 70’s

Posted by Gavin in Efficiency Tips, General Tips, World of Warcraft

The scourge invasion has been going on for several days, and will be around a few more.  So we wanted to do a quick post so that everyone will know how we Dominate the invasion events at the ziggurat spawn locations.  This part of the zombie invasion world event is primarily for groups at level 70, but if you are in the 50’s it’s worth it just to go watch the insanity a time or two while it lasts.

If you are level 70; visit the Argent folks at the tents in any major city, but you’ll probably want to find the one in Undercity or Iron Forge since it makes the next part a bit easier to get to. Accept the quest they give and go to Light’s Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands. There will be several quests available to you there. Pick them all up and be ready to get to work.

Every few hours, the world map begin to show a purple skull in several zones on Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. The skulls mark zones in which a scourge necropolis (or more) has appeared and is feeding a necrotic crystal. There will be a big pack of mobs surrounding each crystal. As you kill the mobs, it damages the crystal.  As you can see above, the scene at the crystals is nothing short of only slightly organized chaos.

By the time the crystals are about to die there are normally several groups of players slaughtering mobs and competing to be the first to tag one of the rares that will spawn as well as the shadows of doom that appear when the crystal is destroyed. The rares always drop a level 70 elite gear item from the undead slayer’s set for each armor type. The shadows also have a chance to drop 30 necrotic runes, which can be turned in for the last two pieces of the set at Light’s Hope in EPL.

Our Dominating technique is to take a full group to a zone under attack and camp a crystal location. One group member keeps an eye out for the rare spawn, and tags them as soon as they appear. This will ensure you almost always get at least two epics for the group at every crystal you camp.  But you have to be fast with an instant cast spell considering the crowds that will be there most of the time.

Next, as soon as the crystal goes down, spam your AOE attacks to tag the shadows. If you are quick, you can nab two of those as well. with three zones on each continent, and at least three crystal locations in each zone – with a little quick movement we have been able to grab 20 epics in less than an hour. If you bring an enchanter along, you can DE the redundant drops and get a stack of 10-12 void crystals as well. Not bad for an hour’s work.

If someone trying to solo one of the rares or elite shadows dies, just tap it and the loot is yours (you’ll have to finish it off of course).  If some jerk is spamming AOE spells and pulls all the spawns, including the one you summoned, you will have to try to pull aggro from them and lead the mob away until their health resets.  If you can manage this, you can get your tag back. You spent runes on the mob, do whatever it takes to get the loot.

But the best way to stock up on plenty of epic drops and runes is to hit some of the least populated locations.  Our favorites are in Azshara and Winterspring.  In Azshara, head to the three crystals on the beach.  Most folks will be at the one closest to the flight paths in the western part of the zone, leaving you with three locations to watch for rare spawns.  Then when the western crystal goes down, they will all come help your team kill the remaining low level mobs and spawn the shadows.

But the best place is Winterspring.  For some odd reason, the two crystals in the northern part of the zone just south of frost saber rock are almost always left alone until every other zone is cleared.  We have been there three days in a row and gotten every single rare spawn.

You might also check the Tanaris crystals, as it seems that that zone takes the longest to get cleared, although we haven’t tested it yet because it’s so far out of the way.  But that may be the reason no one else seems to be going there as well, leaving it wide open for you to Dominate.

Domination Wants You!

Posted by Lawbringer in General Tips

Last Friday we announced the possibility of forming the Domination guild on the podcast.  We didn’t get the roaring response we had hoped for, but we do have enough names to give it a shot.

If we had gotten 50 or so alliance folks we might have taken a stab at that, but there were only about 10 of those guys that mailed in.  So the Ally version is going to be simmering on the back burner for a while.  For you horde guys, here’s all the information you need to join us and begin Dominating.

Server Information:

Gavin and I reside on the Fenris realm, which is US, Eastern Time zone, horde side.  Currently several folks from DYS have started new toons on Fenris and are actively leveling.  The first signature on the charter is Rayzerback, congratulations on being the first member of Domination!

Guild Meeting Time:

We will be having a guild meeting this Friday evening from 5pm to 10pm EST in Thunder Bluff on the middle rise at the bonfire meeting area next to Zangen Stonehoof.  Join us to sign the charter, meet your new guild mates and spend a little time getting to know one another.  Lawbringer will be there with Moneybaggins (tauren version) to get things rolling.

What you need to do:

Transfer a toon to Fenris or roll a new toon and get started leveling with the guild.  I know all you Ally guys are sort of out of the loop for now, but you might consider joining us on the other side of the fence.  While Lawbringer and Gavin are up to their necks in the Beta, you’ll be responsible for getting to 70 and stocking the guild bank with everything we need to really Dominate.

Next Step:

Around the 1st of November, Lawbringer should be done with his Beta duties and will be beginning to select class leaders and other positions in the guild.  At that point we will be able to form a much clearer picture of how to structure runs and raids that fit as many people’s schedules as possible.  We will also know exactly what we need to finish stocking the guild bank with glyphs, chants, and the other things that will be necessary going forward.

Professions are important:

Part of Gavin’s system for Domination relies on having toons from all of the professions.  As such, the guild will be no different.  We’ll need a killer jewelcrafter, enchanter, scribe, and of course herbalists, skinners, miners, leatherworkers – in other words a little of everything.  Since it’s going to be all DYS folks there, making gold off the auction house in huge amounts individually is going to change since we will rule Fenris, but we will just Dominate as a group by not having to rely on the AH for the things we need.  Everyone will be expected to contribute a reasonable number of things to the bank on a regular basis.  A whole team of toons with a plan will rule this server on a level you can only imagine.

Casual Players and New Toons:

If you don’t have tons of time, that’s fine.  You’ll still get more done in a good guild than just flying solo and not everyone can be on all the time.  If you are re-rolling for Domination, it will be important that you have several classes in mind in case we get a huge pile of mages or something and need to fill some spots in other classes.  That’s why the meeting on Friday is important, we need to get a clear picture of class distribution and profession expertise so that we can create some balance from day one.

Power PLayers:

Those who are transferring T5 geared toons will be able to start running together as they can before the 1st.  This will give us a good idea of who our class leaders might need to be.  We don’t have much time before wrath, and it’s probably unrealistic to think we could beat the BC content in time.  So the plan is to do whatever gearing is possible between the 1st and the 14th, and then hit it hard in WotLK.  Raid and rep gear from wrath will be a LOT better than BC anyway, so it might not be worth killing ourselves trying to get 30 guys a complete T6 set.

Vent and other things:

We are sourcing a vent server this week.  Tabards will be available Friday, Guild bank tabs will be sponsored by DYS.  We will be posting a complete set of guild guidelines around Nov 1st, the date we have set to begin really Dominating.

A few Rules before we begin:

Although we will have a complete set of guidelines at some point we can sum them all up in just a few sentences here.

  • Check your attitude at the door - if you think the world owes you a living you’re better off on your own.  Domination is a punk free zone, and that includes outside of guild relations in public chat.  We simply will not tolerate a bad attitude and have no problem cutting folks who don’t play with a smile.
  • Keep your hands to yourself – there will be NO problems wil loot rolls, period.  If there are problems, the person griping will have a difficult time getting a spot in future raids.  A generous attitude will get everyone great gear, a gimme philosophy will just get you booted.  There are plenty of epics to go around and if you are patient and helpful, we will go out of our way to make sure you get yours.  If you’re all about gearing up yourself, then go do it by yourself.
  • Treat the guild bank like you do your own bank – Five people can collect an amazing amount of gold and materials – 50 can have basically everything.  If you try to put in more than you take out we will have space problems which is a great problem to have.  Need better chants?  Put a bunch of mats in the bank and everyone will have them.  Just treat the guild bank as you would your own and everything will go smoothly.
  • Be an Emmissary – No matter where you go or what you are doing, in guild or out, the same rules apply.  Start a fight in trade chat and you’re on your own.  Yes we want to Dominate, but we will not do it with our mouths.  Giving Domination a bad rap will earn you a quick ticket back to wherever you came from.  If you don’t have something nice to say keep your dang mouth shut – bow to people after you pound them in BG’s, taht sort of thing.  Play honorably and you will be honored, it’s pretty simply and non-negotiable.

Keep in mind that Lawbringer and Gavin will not be around a whole lot until after the 1st.  But we didn’t want to wait until after that to begin.  That gives you all two weeks to show us what you can do, and work on earning a leadership spot.  Show us you can do it in the Domination way.  We’ll be listening to all of you when we’re back from our Beta hunting trip and reputation will go a long way with us.  We’ve spent the last two years building reputation with all of our readers, it’s your turn to spend a couple of weeks doing the same thing.

So this is your chance.  Get in there and start leveling that new toon, or transefer your uber leet Dominator.  Between the 24th and the 1st, you’ll be getting to know your guildies, stocking the bank and then we’ll get some raids in before wrath.  Once Wrath goes live, it’s all about hitting 80 and then spanking Arthas like the little jerk he is.  That’s where the teamwork really begins as we help each other go and Dominate WotLK.

So join Moneybaggins on Fenris this Friday evening in Thunder Bluff to sign the Domination guild charter and let’s get this guild in gear.  This is your big break to roll with a great crew, later on we’re going to be extremely picky.  Join up, and let’s go Dominate!

Pets And Profits

Posted by Nameless Demon Hunter in Auction House, Gold Building, World of Warcraft

Everyone is stoked with the new patch 3.0.2. Something new that blizzard specifically added was the achievements. The achievements is a new system that offers combined game content that players can earn by completing the selected field. This can range from doing a certain amount of quests to exploring the world of Azeroth, Outland, and soon Northrend.

What achievements offer is for players to get that complete feel of domination towards WoW, and it most certainly helps. What people really want to know is what does the achievement system have to offer?

Although most of the specific rewards are still unknown, the bounty of completing certain achievements will give each player the right to earn certain rewards and titles. For example, if you are rep’d (exalted) fully in all five major cities you will receive a special title for doing this. Another is if you collect 50 mounts you will receive a special mount.

We won’t know everything until the xpac comes out, but this is just a little taste of what to expect. What I want to tell you is a little secret I discovered with this new system.

One of the achievements available is to earn 50 pets. By doing this, players can earn a special pet when completed. Pets can be a pain to collect, but there are gamers out there that want to help their fellow man (what?), or profit themselves. Whatever you motive is this small guide will help!

High level players will pay anything to get what they want, when they want it and they want it right now. If it costs 50g for a pet, they will pay just that so they can complete their achievement list. Below are listed pets that you can obtain very easily, then turn around and sell them for a 1000% profit or more on the AH.

Ancona Chicken – This is sold by Magus Tirth in the shimmering flats. Not many people know about this guy and even more so, they don’t know he sells a pet. Both sides can obtain it easily. It costs 1g and I have sold them for 25g in the alliance ah. It may depend different on your server, no one may not be selling them at all. Take advantage and put it up for 50g, they will sell. Some may have already figured this out and the prices dropped to 10g. A 9g profit is still a big percentage and it adds up when you sell a lot of them.

This next strategy calls for having a toon on both horde and alliance sides. Saying this, pvp servers won’t be able to profit. Take your toon and buy up a bunch of the opposite server pets, such as cats in SW or dragonhawks at fairbreeze village. Then use the neutral AH and have your buddy buy them from your character. Check your ah and be prepared to make a lot of gold, chances are none will be listed allowing you to set the price.

On my server, the alliance AH are selling dragonhawks for 75g BO and there are not for sale yet at the AH. Even if people know how to obtain the opposite faction pets, they are still willing to pay a certain price just so they don’t have to hassle with the neutral AH exchange. So get those pets collected and dominate your AH with such a simple strategy yielding huge profits!

You can take a look at this page from Warcraftpets.com to see all 33 pets available from vendors. Stock up on these and sell them at the AH for a nice profit.
