Back To BRD For Brewfest!
Posted on September 25th, 2008 by Nameless Demon Hunter under Efficiency Tips, General Tips, World of WarcraftBlizzard holidays are never dull in the slightest. Aside from some of the neat and interesting activities they provide, there is usually a temporary boss that can also drop interesting items.
Right now the Brewfest is going on, and if you haven’t participated in the festivities you are missing out. Even if you are a party pooper and do not participate in the activities, there is a certain NPC that will interest you.
Coren Direbrew is out there, trying to ruin the Brewfest, and it is up to you to stop him. Even if you don’t feel up to doing the chain quest, you don’t have to. This holiday boss resides within Blackrock Depths (BRD). Oh yes, time to drag up those fond pre-BC memories.
Even though Coren is pretty far in, it is actually really simple to get there. Once you enter BRD, turn directly to the right. There will be 3 level 70 NPCs guarding these little contraptions. Take them out then right click on the doodles and be on your way.
You will be transported to the bar area in just a few seconds, (quite appropriate considering the theme). Once you land, there will be an NPC with the blue exclamation mark (!) over his head. This is a daily quest, you can fight Coren 1x per person. That means you will be able to fight him 5x per group.
Coren is fairly simple, not as easy as a regular boss, but just under the heroic level. Once you get the daily quest, talk to Coren and the battle will start.
There are a couple of things to watch out for. First off, there are additional mobs. Depending on how well geared your group is, you can literally ignore these. Having a paladin tank helps. If not, take them out, they are just regular mobs.
Coren has two abilities; the first is a whirlwind which deals a nice chunk of damage and also disarms melee ranged targets. This whirlwind is very slow and easy to avoid, so all melee classes be sure to evade this.
The second ability is this drill that will come up from the ground. Although this is harder to avoid at first, be sure to move once it comes up. Along with damage, the drill will pop the target back.
Coren also will spawn a female dwarf (Ursula or llsa Direbrew). These chicks can be kind of annoying. They will stun a target for 6 seconds from “Brewmaiden’s Stun” and also have another ability called “Barrelled,” which will disorient and slow the target for 8 seconds. This is troublesome for healers and can even cause a wipe.
The females are elite mobs, so they take a while to kill. It is actually wise to ignore both of them completely, focus dps on Coren and make sure your healer isn’t taking damage from adds. Follow these simple steps, along with avoiding his whirlwind, and you’ll be saving the Brewfest festival with ease.
Of course what everyone wants to know is what goodies Coren will drop. The answer is trinkets, lots of trinkets. There is a trinket for every necessity and an ‘extra’ one that is really fit for everyone. There is also an epic dagger called “Direbrew’s Shanker,” which looks like a broken glass bottle when equipped.
The trinkets compliment each spec: healing done, spell damage, attack power, block value, and then two stamina trinkets that can be used once every ten minutes. The two stamina trinkets either summon a brewmaiden who will smite your foes, or a brewmaiden who will bolster your party’s vigor.
The dagger is nice since the stats offer AP, agility, and stamina. It is a slow speed, 2.0, which is actually pretty rare. They are not unique so two can be wielded for those mutilate rogues out there. I enchanted one of mine with 7 weapon damage just to see if the glow would be seen and it did.
The equipment is on par with Karazhan epics, which is really nice for how easily they are obtained. Aside from the items that are used in battle there are, of course, some Brewfest items related to the whole theme.
A rare trinket which is dropped, called “Direbrew’s Remote,” will allow the party to teleport to the Grim Guzzler (where Direbrew is). This isn’t all that special, but more of a convenience for the festival. I wonder if it will still work when this is all over.
The last thing is really great for you rare mount collectors. There is a low drop percentage for the party to obtain either a Brewfest Kodo or a Brewfest Ram, a great way to compliment your character while running around naked in the Brewfest festival. (Role-playing?)
Holidays are always interesting in the World of Warcraft; it really does spice up the game.

Yeah, that guy is pretty easy:
Nuke Coren, ignore elite adds, and let a hunter get some adds.
That’s how we did it, freaking easy boss
I got my kodo and my ram, they’re pretty awesome
oh, and FIRST COMMENT
your second..OWNED
Funny enough, and I’m sure gear is an issue here, but ignoring the mobs is not a good idea, even for very well geared folks. The better option, really is to put your best single target DPS on the elites to burn them down, AoE the non elite mobs, and burn down Coren. Letting the extra mobs run around (if you don’t have a pally) will get the healer killed. Letting the elite mobs run around is VERY bad, as the tank getting barreled means the elites kill everyone else.
The best thing I’ve seen so far for non pally tanks is to have the tank do his thing in the middle of the room, have a good geared hunter burn down the elites, and have a lock or mage do their AoEs on Coren and let the non-elites take the dam from the AoE Coren gets. Ignoring the mobs, especially for those under-geared is not an option, really, since all of us were Kara-geared and its still not an easy fight to “just burn Coren down”.
Seed of corruption nails these adds quickly and without drama- Keep your felguard on defend to aggro the occasional loose mob or the beer-chick and Coren goes down easily-
My groups always ignore adds. Never had an issue doing so.
i find it interesting that you didn’t mention this about the trinkets: they are exactly the same as the 41-badge items sold by g’eras only with different names and looks. the brewmaids are pretty much the same as the netherwing-revered trinket btw. so all you people grinding badges, um hellllllllo, go kill this guy a few times. each night i get together with my friends and by the time we are done switching out our alts the room is filled with dude’s bodies. we’ve all got every spec-specific items we need, now we’re just going for the mount for all of us. /applaud blizzard for this boss.
yes all those farming badges, keep farming them, these trinkets stack with the badge ones, /helooooo double proness
Tatsumasa beat me to the punch! The trinkets are indeed the same as 41 Badge-of-Justice rewards but they get even better.
First of all, they stack. For example, a healer could use both the BoJ item AND the Brewfest healing item.
Second, with a limited number of item drops when you are in a balanced group you will practically be guaranteed the drops you need for your character. Just a few days into Brewfest and you will be getting loot for your off spec. I don’t think anyone will mind the two +45 stam trinkets for those hard hitting fights where 900+ HP can make all the difference in the world.
Finally don’t forget that items will be adjusted in the next patch that is going to bring “spell power” among other things into the game. I believe the reason that the patch has not gone live as expected is because of Brewfest. Blizzard just didn’t have enough time to redo the drops and keep the theme. Because of that, casters will get a bit of bonus from this event. The healing trinket and the damage trinket will BOTH be adjusted to be almost if not entirely identical in effect. (This may also benefit hunters but I do not know their mechanics.)
So if you are a Mage, Lock, Priest, Druid, Shaman, or Paladin (Don’t know about hunters but better safe than sorry!) you want to snag both of those spell trinkets.
So now you have everything you need, so why go back? Did you miss the bit about a free mount? Oh, you have a really rare mount or don’t want it. IT CAN MAKE YA GOLD!!!!!! On my server, Khadgar, I have seen the mount sell twice. Last night I saw the Kobo net a new 70 1000G. Two days before a high end raider gave away SEVEN epic gems for the Kobo!!!! Yes this does require that you have the loot on master loot or do a pass/roll but….. I even passed on the Ram for a couple of Primal Might’s on my warrior because I had last years mount.
All and all it’s just fun and a little loot, or a lot is always a good thing!
If you have Coren’s remote on you, it is a guaranteed way for a group within about 20 seconds. Just put in trade chat “LFG. everybody must summon. I have remote” and watch the whispers pour in.
lack of edit button
I’d like to point out that the elite that does NOT throw barrels at you throws brew at you. Drink the brew, and you will never get stunned for 6 seconds. You will see a note that reads “You have recieved item: [Dark Brewmaidens Brew]. Then just open your bags, drink the brew, and viola! no stun for u.

Easiest way i’ve done it, is have one take the non elite adds, a lock actually worked pretty great for this, tank and dps burn Coren. as a hunter i kept a freeze trap down, often freezing the drills that pop up, or a stray dwarf i distracting shot off the healer. both chicks will spawn, and though her stunis annoying, ignore Illsa and get a pet to distract Ursula, she’s the one that throws the wipe causing barrels. as a fun side note, if you walk into the bar itself you may notice a couple of goblins around a drum set. talk to the one on the right before you fight coren. it’s fun, just don’t forget to /cheer for your 5 min buff. =^.^=
the goblins only work if u have the remote.
also you can wear the trinkets with their equivelant from badges.
Lol Gosh you guys seem to have a plan. 5 people all purple and blue mostly blue geared pile in . Tank and healer stuck on Coren everyone else doing there own thing. down in 4 mins mebbe. nothing special. Easy as pie. Nice gear. BUT if your struggling don’t worry, WOTLK 7 weeks. … Dwarven DK omw!.
LoL prob one of the easiest boss’s i have done. we 3 maned him. arms warrior Demo lock and a Resto Druid. Easy as pie.
This is troublesome for healers and can even cause a wipe.
to start with, research before you write things up for these guys please, and lawbringer mby you should check the information before its posted also.
Ilsa will spawn at 50%, She has the brewmaidens stun, which can be avoided by drinking the drink that she throws at you before she throws another one at you (you have 20 seconds do drink it).
Ursula will spawn at 25%, She has Barreled, which is done to the person with the highest threat on her, so make sure someone, gets threat on her, otherwise the healer tends to be the one that gets barreled. Barreled is also a agro drop, so make sure that its a dps or a pet who gets agro, she does very little damage otherwise.
Ilsa at 75% rather not 50%
in every group i did it in we had no problem ignoring the adds (elite and non-elite) and just dpsing coren down
