Are You Ready?
Posted on September 16th, 2008 by Lawbringer under General TipsLast night, Blizzard announced the release date for Wrath of the Lich King. I hope you are ready, because it’s coming sooner than any of us expected here at DYS. I know you’re itching to know the date, but you’re going to have to pardon me a little hype and buildup here.
While the Beta has been frustrating at times (you notice I didn’t have a picture up for the article about WotLK pets because the new pet classes in the Beta have been bugged for the last 5 days
) it is also the most fun I’ve had with WoW. Before tBC, everyone had pretty much capped out on the available adventuring, and once that happens the game sort of gets a bit dull because there is nowhere to go that’s new, and nothing really fun to do because you’ve done it all.
The Burning Crusade expansion fed a lot of new and neat things into the game. You may be taking them all for granted now, but tBC was an awesome expansion to an already good game. With tBC we got flying mounts, a really well planned continent, dozens of new factions, and cool new mini-games within the game like the daily bombing runs. All of this added up to a much more interesting and fun experience, even for those people who had completely mastered the original content.
If you thought that tBC was a good expansion, just wait until you see WotLK. We haven’t written a whole lot about it so far because so much of the new content is in a state of flux. We just don’t like to post information that turns out to be bogus later on. You guys expect a certain level of perfection with every single article we post, and (even if you don’t believe it all the time) we really want to deliver above and beyond your expectations. We truly want everyone to be able to find something in everything we write about or recommend that will help you Dominate. You may not always agree, but we simply can’t win them all.
Well, the WotLK is dominating. The first thing that strikes me about the continent of Northrend is that the graphics seem to be better. Not to sound girly, but it is pretty. It has such an epic feel and look in every single zone. It’s not ‘cartoony’ in any way. Instead it looks like something from a Conan the Barbarian movie. It’s really visually awesome.
Next, there are some nifty changes to the quest environment. There is a good flow to everything, but yet still enough different things to do in so many places that it will take you quite a few run-throughs before you start getting bored with the quest chains. It’s not just – go here, kill this and the odd escort thrown in. You still have to kill a bazillion things, but you also get to blow up buildings, ride in tanks, borrow dragons – and that’s just in the first level or two.
There are a whole new slew of factions with great rewards, a new profession, glyphs, a whole zone dedicated to constant and total PvP action (think battleground just bigger and no queue), new pets, new talents, new instances, the achievement system, the whole thing is just incredible.
Then there are the class talent changes and additions. Probably every warrior is going to at least try out Titans Grip, a skill that lets you use two handed weapons in each hand. It is awesome to see those guys running around with a monster axe in both fists. So there will be things that nearly everyone tries out in the new trees, and you can be sure that we will give you all the inside scoop on what really works and what is just fluff as we test through all the possibilities in the coming months.
So are you ready for it? Well, you better get that way pretty quick, because the
WotLK goes live on November 13th!
Which means you need to pre-order pretty soon to ensure you get your copy on time. If you want to be one of the first guys to hit 80, and have your inscription at 450 in the first few days, rest assured that our leveling guide will send you screaming through Northrend in record time – Dominating everyone else. We’ll keep you ahead of the learning curve with all the information you need to continue your domination of PvE, PvP, professions, recipes, glyphs, inscription, faction rep, progression, raiding and much, much more in the coming days and weeks even before WotLK debuts on Nov 13th. But all of that will do you no good at all if you don’t have it to play!
But before you run out and order a copy at the store or hit Amazon to do it online, just know that we are working feverishly to get a special offer for all of you from one of the top online game retailers. So if you can wait a couple of days we’ll give you a way to pre-order the game that will give you your game key as soon as the WotLK goes live on midnight of the 13th. You’ll also be able to download the new version without having to wait for your disks to arrive or even wait in line at the store, nothing could be easier. It will also put you in a position to pop a couple of levels before most people even put their disks in the drive!
So you better get seriously busy whacking out the last few levels to 70 on those alts in the next few weeks, and be sure to check out our WotLK information as we leak it to you here. We want to take your game to a whole new level in the expansion, and we’re going to help you beat everyone else to the punch. Look for our special DYS pre-order deal in the next couple of days – and as always, Dominate!

Awesome..
looking forward to seeing what the “deal” will be exactly
And still looking forward to more information about the new things in WotLK… maybe some stuff like you put out about the Hunter Pets, but for the other classes? Thanks guys… Keep it up!
I tried commenting earlier aswell, don’t know whether it has gone through and still not been updated. But anyways, this is great news, specially about the special offer. For people like us in other countries this would be a major help coz otherwise it’ll take weeks if not months before we get the xpac. So please keep us uptodate on whts going on. Please add a comment if you see this.
Btw great work with all the articles guys! You really dominate.
omg tis is are laik too way kool i kant wait too get it
much thanks!! but sadly i already preordered my game at my local shop.. well depending on your guys deal here i may just order it here and cancel there.:} can you say prepaid credit cards FTW.
Wow… ‘i know you are itching to know the date’
it was announced on the Wow website before you for starters… but anyhow otherwise an interesting post.
No we are not tbf
sigh, nobody actually reads any more. The very first thing I said was that Blizz announced the date last night.
since i have the beta, do i have to buy wotl?
Yes, you will have to buy the expansion set for the key to unlock the content on each account you have.
I preordered the game yestarday from bestbuy, 45$ including tax and shipping, and it is estimated to arrive Nov. 8th 2008 between 8am-11am.
the origial estimated release date for wotl was the 8th, i preordered mine from gamestop and that was the date i received 2 months ago, bestbuy may be behind on there news, which is most likely, they would rather sell you a 42 inch lcd than a game……. yeah i got the lcd. ANYWAYS, let me know if they really do ship it early, im interested so i can bust the balls of my local GS nerds.
Sounds good. Looking forward to what I have to have and do to get inscription to 475 (other than tons of herbs and loads of cash) etc.
Was just curious, did you mention in an earlier post that at level 68 you can fairly easily get by and start in the new areas and content?
From our testing in the beta I took my shadow priest to Northrend at 68 and he did just fine, so this should be true for any class – especially DPS classes and builds.
I hope we can get your “deal” in Australia…
..
Also, Lots of great info guys, keep up the good work.
Isn’t the profession skill gonna raise to 450 from 375, not to 475?
That is true – sigh, I have math transposition errors from time to time, which is why I didn’t ever use my degree in accounting
i have the beta and i was just wondering if i have to buy the game when it comes out?
PLEASE tell us early on what herb we need to save for inscription – so I can sell all the rest that I have been stockpiling…. I have heard that the inscription profession will actually come out before the expansion, so I would like to load the AH with me excess herbs as soon as the profession is available, but I don’t want to oversell and then have to buy back or farm those same herbs all over again.
Thanks – and keep up the good work!
Leeroi: ALL herbs will be used in inscription, at every stage. Herbs will be divided into ‘families’ based on what type of pigment they turn in to. At the following list, you’ll note the word ‘combined.’ That means the inscriptor will use the numeric amount of all the herbs. For example, in the first stage, it requires 10 stacks of herbs. Not 10 stacks of peacebloom, and then 10 stacks of silverleaf. You could use just 10 stacks of peacebloom. You could use 5 stacks of each.
– Therefore, an inscriptor has the potential to need EVERY type of herb in the game. Below is a list of what I’ve compiled so far.
200 (10 stacks) combined
peacebloom, silverleaf, earthroot, mageroyal
321/100 (5 stacks) combined
briarthorn, bruiseweed, stranglekelp, swiftthistle
100 (5 stacks) combined
wild steelbloom, grave moss, kingsblood, liferoot
120 (6 stacks) combined
fadeleaf, goldthorn, khadgar’s whisker, wintersbite
240 (12 stacks) combined
Firebloom, purple lotus, Arthas’s tears, sungrass, blindweed, ghost mushroom, gromsblood
380 (19 stacks) combined
Golden samsam, dreamfoil, mountain silversage, plaguebloom, icecap
sorry.. ignore the fraction value for briarthorn, bruiseweed tier. I copied/pasted straight out of my personal word document showing me my current inventory. thought I deleted the numerator, but I missed one :/
Can anyone tell me what the warlock metamorphism for warlocks is like? How much damage is being done in demon form? If you can i will greatly apreciate it.
We will be sure to post articles about all the information we can reasonably gain playing through the beta and as soon as we can when the xpac goes live, so stay tuned.
meta has been changed many many times in the beta.
at the moment, all it is doing is increasing armor by 600%, increases dmg by 40%, KEEPS YOUR PET OUT, no longer heals you to full for the duration.
and it allows you to use a AoE taunt, an intercept style move and a cleaveing atack, aswell as all your normal abilities.
it is extreamly fun to use alongside a felguard, double intercepts, demonic empowerment on the fg increasing its atack speed, extra damage for u, soul link, more armour, the list goes on. o and you use demon armour alongside it against melee basically, its armour bonus x 6 is the next level up of damage reduction from armour.
Hi,
Don’t mean to be overly enthusiastic but can some one give an indication as to when this special offer would be available? I’m going to be the first to order :}
Thanks
you said TBC was a good expansion. I agree, an expansion was in order, however i though TBC was terrible. Shamans should be a horde only class and paladins a ally only class. TBC also left a lot of gaps, hardly anyone even fights illidan yet he is the main character through TBC, whats up with that?
hopefully WotLK wont be a bomb or ill probably quit my retail account
You mentioned a guide to Northrend, when will that be available? I want to scream through Northrend! Thanks, You guys Rock!
hi all from Thailand and the internet hole of the world i have 1.5mb adsl but only downloaded 476mb so far after one week for the first patch after a reinstall. would love to pre-order but what is the point lol i have a month off so should be ready to play on my last day lol
Have you tried opening the ports on your network for the WoW feed? There are some tutorials at the Blizz site to improve your patch download speeds. They should help you tremendously as 1.5 Mb should be fast enough to download 100mb in just a few minutes, so something on your machine is slowing you down. The good news is that you can probably fix it pretty easily if you can root around in your connection settings.
I am guessing the deal will be for US only
?
Downhill,
We will make sure that we don’t leave anyone out no matter where you live. Our offer will be available worldwide, although you may be at the mercy of your download speed – there’s not much we can do to help you with that one.
Hail Lawbringer!
Now you are my favourite peroson in the world :}
I’m going to upgrade my download speed right now so I can get it quickly
Hope to hear some thing positive soon.
lol i have all the blizzard firewall ports opened 6112, 6881-6999 are all added its just the internet here. not shore what other ports i can open will look. one of the main internet providers here goes down every day for 3mintues to 1hr if u are lucky just bad wirering and lack of tech support for English speaks. signed up for one service and was told it was great for online gaming then had to upgrade after i was told the one i signed up for after a month of calling them was only good for Thailand online games lol not international. satellite is good for connection but with 1 second delay from the start you are looking at a 2500ms speed on average. any tips would be greatly appreciated. thxs rising
do people even read patch notes anymore? there is a patch that will be implemented TUESDAY that will include the skill inscription. this mean that inscription will be out BEFORE the expansion. the 51-point talent trees will also be included in THIS patch. so all you people drooling over your keyboards about all the new stuff coming out in november, a lot of it will be here next week. go read the patch notes if you haven’t already done so and avoid being like the beta-noobs wandering around shatt asking ‘where is the portal to northrend?’ thank you for the article lb
yes it will be avaliable, but when you click on it and try to learn it, it will say that you require wrath of the lich king to be installed to do this.
same with trying to use the zepplins, haircuts, death knights, they are all being implemented into the server side operations, but not yet included on your computer, and your acount wont be upgraded to use them until you get your code
and there is no portal to northrend. zepplins from uc and org, and boats from menethil and theramore (i think its theramore)
and before anyone asks
to get to dalaran, you get ported there after a quest at level 64, or from a mage porting you there.
and you cant use your flying mount until lvl 77
Hey-Law,
Anything positive on the downloadable expac deal? Really looking forward to this. Please keep us updated.
Keep up the good work :}
