Allow me to elaborate. I do still use RatingsBuster but I use it to differentiate between 2 pieces of similar gear without having to mess round doing calculations in my head.
When I made reference to people being beyond help, I was thinking more specifically of the several players I've seen who stack entirely the wrong stats for their class. I have (on more than one occasion) seen hunters using throwing weapons, or wearing the +spell dmg helm from the Teron Gorefiend questline (the name of the questline escapes me at the moment). I'll admit that I was maybe a bit general with that statement, sorry to anyone who was offended.

It is Dermie.

lvl 70 warlock raiding BT.

It is not the best geared. But it gives me enjoyment to play it, which is what it is all about.

You see, here's the real problem with writing any type of article you guys have mentioned; there are still going to be some people who hate it. Frankly you simply cannot please everyone all of the time.

I said the site was interesting, probably more so for those people who are not progressed into T5 (which I specifically mentioned when I said it would be useful for new players or gearing alts without having to look at every site in the world to make gear choices.) Honestly, I seriously think that you guys don't really read the posts well enough to absorb the message anyway, or maybe you have comprehension issues.

If we did a lot of WotLK speculation posts, they would be wrong and outdated in a month even in the Beta - so that's out. If we talk about high-end arena play a bunch of people gripe. If we talk about things that help new players out then suddenly we are "not living up to our 'previous' high standards" or "dissapointing" you REAL pros. If I did an article about leveling from 40-50 that would get trashed as "if you can't figure out how to get 10 levels just quit wow."

The point is - if you don't like THIS article, that doesn't mean anyone has lost their head here. We have to take the approach that some will, some won't, so what, who's next? I figure no matter what we write about, about 60% of our readers will find something useful, and 40% will not. Some of that 40% always complains, that's life, but we keep moving forward. Oddly enough, some of that 40% will be in the 60% on the very next article.

So relax, we'll write about something YOU like later.

So, you really mean to say this with a straight face?

"If you’ve made it to 70 and you can’t work out what gear your character needs, then frankly your beyond the help of any type of blog."

And then follow that with:

"I would like to recommend to you and your readers a mod called RatingsBuster. It attaches a small section to the bottom of loot windows telling you how a piece of gear compares to the gear your currently wearing."

So you're level 70 AND you still use Ratingsbuster, but you KNOW already what gear you character needs? Talk about speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

Man that is a perfectly perfect way to play. You dont need to raid to experience the game. But what we are saying is a site that was updated over a year ago is not worth looking at. There are better sites out there to get research from and when the article starts with "We really do a lot of research when writing articles here at DYS", you start to figure that a general look around the web will find something better. We all like gavin's tips because they can help or sometimes just show us that we are doing the right thing. Whether you be someone who just hit 70 or someone in SWP. It may sound like abuse that we deal out but it is more intended as advice/constructive criticsm. Though when someone is disappointed or frustrated they tend to say things out of spite.

I must apologise my first post did sound very childlike. But i would like to ask that the articles please be brought up a notch and start catering to what the readers truly need.

Gav,
Advice is like prison sex; not always something you're willing to take, yet everyone has some for you...
Too subtle? Well then....
For those of you like Doc who have higher expectations for this site, then prospect to become a writer for Gavin while you're still smarter than the rest of us...
Personally I don't get to raid 4 times a week, have no idea what a T5 or 6 piece of gear looks like; have never been to Sunwell, Black Temple or even ZA (whatever that is) simply because I am too busy being a grown up person earning a living.
In short that means that I am grateful for any information Gavin and crew have to impart, even if I don't always understand it. If all it teaches me is that its pointless levelling a rogue or a hunter because there's already so many on every server that no one will want u in their group, then I am happy.

p.s. Gavin, why didn't you tell me that no one will want a 70 semi-geared hunter before I spent 7 months levelling her? Oh well - fun to shoot stuff anyway.

My apologies to all those serious players who think I should just buy an X-box, but WoW is such an awesome game, and even though I will never be able to raid properly or gain the satisfaction of end game content like you will, I still prefer it to all the CS and Grand Turismo copy games out there that will never reach the depth of this great game.

Cheers,

lol - when I figured out how worthless my hours of grinding rep had been, I said some decidedly un-teenage girl things.... It is a game, and I enjoy the game, but parts of it are more fun than others. I do the boring parts to better enjoy the fun parts and to support my guildmates as they try to excel in the fun parts as well. It was just a real pisser to find out that I did everything backasswards in Honor Hold and ended up costing me hours more later as I made up the lost rep.

lol - my problem is that I DO get out more.... That is why I am looking for Gavin, Lawbringer, et al, to play like fiends and tell me what mistakes to avoid, what efficiencies to use, etc., for the limited time I get to play. Some have read my post as a bash, but it is not. I am merely agreeing with Dermie (who also was not bashing, imho) that for "dominating", I am looking for a different type of information. I added the "teenage girl freaking out" part as expressing my own hopes for Gavin & Co to keep me from wasting time once WotLK comes out.

As was said before, that site might have been useful for me a year ago. Heck, 8 months ago, even, since I got my Paladin to 70 only on this side of new years.... since then, I've been with my guilds' first kills ever since the Lurker in SSC, and we're now midways through P2 of Illidan in Black Temple. Yep, both T5 and one T6 dungeon cleared in under 9 months. And that's with only two raids per week, and 3 from about 1st April.

The gear suggested for my Paladin, would completely nerf me down to Gruul level again, it wouldn't be something I would want to aim for at all. There's no Sunwell-badge items, no T6 on that site. "last updated november 2007" really says it all.

I can understand some people would enjoy PvP, but for me, reading those posts are a waste of time. I simply don't enjoy PvP. But you've had some great articles about other things here, the Herbalism one as the latest.... also about taking your lvl70 in to a lowlevel dungeon to farm for gold and others.... good stuff those, even for a PvP-disliker like me.

But THIS post, was very disappointing. Sorry, mate, but the site simply doesn't live up to my expectations.
