Blizz Buffs the Lawbringer Rules
Posted on August 7th, 2008 by Lawbringer under General TipsI got an email from Blizzard last night. At first, I thought maybe it was my beta invite – but no such luck. It was news about a new program that can really help you level if you use the Lawbringer rules.
Now It seems that Blizz gets it from both directions from a lot of players. New players say the game is too hard at times, experts hammer them when they nerf things. It seems like every decision they make is met with some controversy. It’s not going to be any different with this one.
A few days ago I told you about the two rules I run with: never quest out of rest and always run in a party of two. Well, the new recruit a friend system is really going to make rule number two very attractive to a lot of folks, and probably draw the ire of many power players.
Here’s how it works: you refer someone to play WoW and when they activate their new account they insert a code that links their account to yours. The two accounts stay linked for up to 90 days and if you also play with the toons of the friend you referred you get some BIG buffs to your leveling. Take a look at these!
- When in a party with your friend you both get TRIPLE experience
- For every two levels your friend gains, they can give one of your alts a free level
- You and your friend can summon each other from anywhere in Azeroth
Now, if triple experience doesn’t get you fired up I don’t know what will. There are a couple of other nifty little things that might be of interest to you as well:
- When your friend pays for 60 days play time, you get an exclusive Zhevra mount (Epic Speed) at level 60
- When your friend buys their first 30 days of game time you get 30 days free.
So for those of you who already run in a team this could be a real bonus. It certainly will blow all of the arguments for going solo out of the water. And before you say – “well, yeah, if you can get somebody else to play,” think about it really hard.
Gavin and I already own three accounts each. But this buff is so good, we may very well just have to have one of us start a new account to take advantage of this little deal. For all of you couples and buddies that already play, you might consider doing the same thing.
In 90 days you could probably get 2 or 3 toons each to 70 using these experience buffs and summoning skill. Since you get 30 days free when you buy 60 days, your total out of pocket cost is $40 for the TBC key and $15 for the 60 days play time since you get $15 free on your main account. So for $55 bucks you can get the better buffs than any set of epic in the game as far as leveling is concerned, and a vanity epic land mount to boot.
Considering that if you were to buy a level 70 with zero gear it would set you back about $500, and powerleveling will cost you about $350 to 70 (if you even trust those things) and just buying one or two thousand gold would cost you more than $55 bucks it sounds like a bargain to me. I am in no way advocating those things, I discourage them strongly, but in the current market place being able to buy triple experience and 35 free levels for just $55 bucks sounds like a deal.
You see, Blizz wants people to actually enjoy the new content in WotLK, so they have made a way for you to level to 70 as easily as possible. Especially if it gives new players a serious buff to leveling, then it’s a good move so that more people will be ready to go when the next xpac goes live than were ready for tBC. So they nerfed XP from 30-60 and now this. Plus, since Death Knights will start at level 55, it only makes sense to make leveling for any other class easier as well (although I assume this will still be in effect for DK’s when WotLK comes out – talk about getting to end game fast!)
So go get your mom, your brother, your granny an account and double box it if you have to to make this work for you. You can’t make leveling any easier than this friends. Refer yourself – and Dominate.

I don’t really have the capabilities to look into this at the moment as i can barely get this page to load, (Internet in Iraq sucks…)
but i have a couple questions that maybe you can answer. Is this only for brand new accounts? i have 2 currently and i was wondering if i were to refer a “friend” on those, would i be able to take advantage of this? also (i’m doubting this one) does this stack on accounts? i mean for say the mount thing, can you get more than one on an account? And last… when does this start?
i’ll be home in a little over a week (finally) and plan on implementing a lot of the recent tips you guys have been providing
Stay cool
You can read all of the FAQ about the refer a friend program here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20588 it should answer everything you need to know.
I couldn’t find the proper place to submit this question but I figured you guys or gals are pretty much close to each other and could answer my question or at least direct me to the proper place to submit it. I have been receiving your hints since March of 2007 and I have learned that enchanting is the best profession to have to make money. My question is how can you make enchanting be your money maker? I am on Anvilmar realm and I have a 70 priest, pally, hunter, and mage and working on a shaman (50), and would love for you to answer this question. I have (among those toons) 375 in tailoring, leatherworking, skinning, mining, and enchanting. Help me to figure out how to be that great money maker. I do not work for any body (retired and unemployed). Please.
i made a new account to party with my house-mate using this system, and omg it is awesome! we are leveling so fast that we cant even afford skills/gear (we rolled a new serve to test this). i didn’t even consider to tell him to log on an alt so i can give it a free level (if i take that into account its like leveling 3 chars at once isn’t it, with one getting 150% xp instead of 300% O_o;;; ) it’s perfect since i have always played alliance and this is the first motivating experience to encourage me to play horde (and actually enjoy the leveling process
) We are not power levelers or anything like that (actually i am pretty hopeless at questing ) but we are still going to reach level 30 in about 10 hours of playtime
getting to 60 should be a breeze
I sent myself an invite using this last night. Just messing around for an hour-ish played time, not really sitting down and dedicating the entire time to levelling, I was level 8 on both chars on my way out of the starting zone. Just doing the first quest, I was over level 3. The exp from mobs is actually 1.5x, due to the .5x drop for being in a group, but the quest exp is still 3x. It’s nice to get over 1k exp for turning in a quest at level 5. It’s insane how fast this goes, and I was in the same position as Hippolyta… I couldn’t afford the skills for levelling. Also, granting levels stacks. I created a new level 1 on my original account, and ran them to IF. The new char on the invited account granted three levels (gained 7 in time playing) to the mage, back to back. What I’m wondering is if I level the first char to 70, and grant up to 35 on the mage, if I can level another to 70, and spend all of those grants on the same mage, ending with a level 70 char I’ve never even really touched.
No, according to the faq granting levels stops at 60 but you can get a char to 60 without any work at all
Blizzard really thinking how to get more ppl and account now.
no doubt it will bring in more friends, but also 2-3 account for each person. The triple xp and extra lvl are really nice, but I also feel less fun ’cause it’s more like business, hope no friend will be hurt when being push to lvl.
couldnt u like….Use this then transfere the guy to ur main account after lvling them lol it would give u a fast lvl 60 and wouldnt have to pay for the sepperate accounts rofl
Yeah that’s a great idea, don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
i think this is great it will push people struggling to get their levels quicker, and pro players to get it in less time. also it will probably double the number of wow players or at lest at a couple million. i got a beta invite srry gavin. hope you get one too man.
Well to me it seems that they are aiming at only one thing : making people buy 2 accounts. I think it makes sense and is brilliant (and sinister). The idea is: Either get more people to buy new accounts or sell another account to those who already have one. And it seems it’s already working.
Ok don’t get me wrong. I think it’s perfect. I mean look at the benefits that we might get from it:
1- We will level faster
2- We will have more top level characters
3- Those of us who used to pay for power leveling services now can level their alts with much less money paid and much more fun
4- MOST IMPORTANT: We will see less 70s who have no clue what they are doing (a hunter that can’t trap – a mage that can’t sheep – …)
So bottom line for those of us who can afford 2 accounts this is EPIC (If you were buying gold you should be able to afford another account right?), and for those of us who can’t afford it, this might be the determination that we needed to get our friends to play WoW which will result in more fun when playing WoW. I don’t see anything bad about this.
I enjoy being a stormcrow, so here’s what *I* see coming.
I don’t get the big whiny deal about levelling. I played a hunter, mostly solo. Got her to 70 in 11 days played with very few runs through anywhere by any high level toon. I am told that’s actually pretty slow. Saw a Youtube vid of a chick who hit 70 in 4 days played. Considering that it took me FIVE YEARS to get my cleric to 65 (the max at the time) in Everquest, and that she *still* doesn’t have her 2nd epic piece…I think you’re all spoiled.
1) People are going to be all screwed up with respect to the quest chains they’d *normally* do as they levelled for rep and such. Why bother now? You’ll be 60 in no time.
2) NO ONE will have the patience or desire to touch old content ever again.
3) The ability to get an untouched toon to lvl 60 means you’ll be stuck with a glut of lvl 60 toons that folks don’t know how to play.
4) Every group invite is going to be further slowed by “I need my teammate” and since there’s only 5 in a group someone’s getting shafted every time.
5) The gold farmers will have a whole new market in people paying for gold to pay for training on “triple xp” leveled toons.
For those who spent 2 years grinding the old content and want to move on to what is effectively a different game, this may work. But any game that deliberately makes its own old content obsolete is signing its own death warrant.
You say that with some authority – name one time that has happened. Then if you can prove it in one other case, name one time it has happened to Blizzard – never.
The level 60 content has been obsolete for over a year now. Nobody does anything except farm old world instances. The number of AQ20/40 runs I did since TBC = 0. So how will BC content getting pushed aside with the next patch going to keep the game from growing?
This leveling buff will actually HELP people enjoy the relevant portions of the game with everyone else. This is a very good thing for Blizz and players.
I’m a little peeved at this to be totally honest, myself and my GF have just started to level 4 new chars together using the guide you posted a couple of weeks ago, and now I feel like I’ve wasted all that time and should simply buy two new accounts in order to get these bonuses. Then after the time runs out xfer my old 70 to the new account and cancel the old account.
Can you transfer characters from one account to another? I didn’t think this was possible.
You can if they have the same last name.
I just made a new account to test out this new bonus Blizzard decided to throw to us, and have to say that unfortunately it only buffs one of the two Lawbringer rules, this XP bonus does not stack with rested, you simply remain rested until you kill something out of party, so rolling a bunch of characters and doing them in rotations to get the rested bonus is pointless if you are using the Recruit-A-Friend buff, but the 300% affect does affect XP gain from quests, so this is by and far the fastest way to level a character. My leveling partner and myself (we’ve been leveling characters together since WoW was in Beta) took characters from 1-30 in 6 hours 7 minutes played. I can only hope that the buff rolls over to more than just the first character.
As a subnote, the summon your friend ability has a 1 hour cooldown, so use it wisely and time your locations and hearthstones effectively to maximize affect.
yes that true the friend buff doesn’t stack with rested. but if u help ur friend all the way to 60 using the friend buff, then all the rested earned all that way, is ready for them for the first couple of levels past 60.
Thanks Lawbringer,
I will definetly be taking advantage of this when i get home
This is excellent info, though I do have some questions. If my 70 runs my friend’s character through instances and such, will he still get the 3x experience over the 90 day period? Also if with that gain 2 lvl give alt 1 lvl thing, will it work up to 70 or will it just be a lower lvl as the cap, say 60?
there will be a cap at 60, and he should get trip exp from run.
i think you don’t get triple xp if the mobs are grey to one of the characters?
i agree wish vashra. by making it so easy to get to 70 new players are missing part of the game. do you people remember leveling your first character? do you remember all the learning experiences you’ve gone through to get where you are now? sure, it would be nice to not have to go through the whole process for every alt, but to allow new players the ability to be 70 without having to go through the work it took the rest of us to get there, blizzard is allowing more end game characters with no respect for themselves for all the hard work it took nor the understanding of how to really play that character. compare the champion of the naaru title to the shattered sun title. one you can buy, the other you have to bust your ass to get. as a naaru title holder, when i look at another character and see that title i see all the hours of work, trial and error runs, possible pugs, and even complete fails and having to start over. when i see a shattered sun title, i see someone who did some dailies and bought their title. if blizzard is going this far, how long before you can simply buy your level 80 character and all their epic gear with your credit card? fairness creates mutual respect and by removing that fairness they are effectively removing a vital part of the social structure in the game.
I honestly don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Unlike other MMORPGs, the majority of players you see are at their max level so its not like you can feel special and show off just by being 70… So what if there’s more 70s running around, you’ll still look just as nice with your epics and they’ll look just as crap with their quest greens.
You kinda contradicted yourself a little Tatsumasa regarding the player titles. That’s why they have different titles… so other players can differentiate between them. If you have a shattered sun title and you use it, then you’re just advertising that you “bought” that title whereas if you have a naaru title then it signals that you worked hard etc. Blizz made the Shattered sun title and introduced this new system because not all WoW players are hardcore. Alot are casual players who can only play once or twice a week.
I do remember my first experiences of WoW. Some were the best times but alot of them were painful. If you do get this new exp buff then it still allows you to have the good moments and by the time the good moments end you’ll have leveled enough to go to a new area rather than having to stay behind and painfully grind out the rest of the exp after all the quests have run out.
And another thing, if they dont want to miss all the leveling fun, then all they have to do is go solo or find another party member and thus they lose the exp bonus.
So wait, do i get the 90 days free when i link my friends account to mine, or do i have to buy the 60 days to get the 30 free days aswell, If so do i have to buy it on both accounts
? Im confused
.
You only get 30 days when the person you referred buys 30 days, so the only way you would get 90 days is if you buy 60 days plus the referred person basically gives you 30, but both people don’t have to buy days at once in order for the bonuses to take effect, unless your account is expired.
Having come in at about the time TBC was launched, and now doing raids with my 3rd lev 70, I find that the problem will be people who don’t know how to handle their class. I was in one yesterday with a huntard who couldn’t trap, didn’t know not to set their pet on the seduced mob, and not to aim at the sheep. We didn’t wipe, purely because we were so DPS heavy they couldn’t take us down fast enough.
However, it will create raid guilds who are based around players with experience of raids, and who will kick out newbies who can’t play their characters. You’ll get 1 sorts of raid guilds – ones who know what they are doing, and ones who will take in anyone.
Personally, I hate the idea, but it’ll make more money for Blizzard, temporarily shut down the power-levelling industry, and untimately, it’s their game, so you pays your money or not.
my father grinded his way very slowly to level 50 (so far) and believe me he still knows nothing about his class…(at this rate i am sure he will make 70 with no clue how to play). to be honest i think this is actually good since it will give old players motivation to level with and teach new players, and with the widening gap between beginning levels and max level, buffs like this are needed.
It’s always easy to try and look on the negative side of something. Yes people will probably try to abuse the system, but 1-60 has been nowhere near as fun as 60-70, leveling faster doubles the fun for the comparatively boring 1-60 quests, because your not forced to grind the gaps between quests.
Considering that most of the fun comes at lvl 70, what Blizz is doing is a good thing. There’s nothing wrong with getting to lvl 50 and still have no idea about how to play. Grinding on mobs and doing quests are totally different to raiding and pvping. Imo you don’t really learn how to properly play your class until you reach 70 and start to do some proper pvp/pve.
Even if Blizz halves the exp and thus doubles the time for players to level to 70, people are still going to be relatively noob at their class because when you level, you follow the same routine of killing a mob by only using certain abilities. At least this way, it allows very casual players to still be able to enjoy the endgame content or at least to a higher degree than before. And it also allows experienced players the opportunity to play another class, without having the drawback of spending the next few weeks mindlessly grinding/questing for another 70.
And about people that can’t play their class… well you get retards everywhere you go in life. Not trying to discriminate or flame but thats just how things are. In every guild you get crap players who are basically being dragged along for the ride by exceptional players whether its a crap guild or a very good guild.
So to set up a second acct, can WoW be D2D somewhere do i have to go buy the discs?
No, you only need to create the second acct at worldofwarcraft.com, and use your current client to log in. The only time that wouldn’t be true is if you are NOT going to play any longer than the 10 free days.
unless u want to take advantage of the free game time when the acount is upgraded to a full acount
i know personally that when i get my death knight made, ill be leveling it properly, no bonus levels from this at all, because im a big fan of the lore behind wow.
though my bro has just started playing and i got him onto this, and we got him to 60 in 3 days, and got a new alt for me to 30
I already have 3 accts wife has 2, with together 23 70’s and a flock of various “prefered partner classes” we busted out every one of them, i raided hard in prebc and met and married wife 3 months prior to bc and shes packin L70 alts we can shoe-in for a missing class in a raid/heroic. but she knows her classes and the class of the player to her right. now my brother wanted to catch up faked non interest in the game and secretly PL a toon cause he knew how i was against it. heres why. he dont know jack about the toon, hasnt had those “life / skill experiences”…and you skilled players know what im saying here, (a 70 warlock that cannot handle manipulate and destroy 6 equal level non elite mobs fairly easily) why? because they never had to. Not only have i seen this done, but i have seen L70 locks that cant handle 2. And its sad when you hear a L70 hunter call out, “how do i feed my pet?!!” that guy should be banned from wow for life. sure either me or my wife can squeeze out 70 of any class in less than 8-10 days /played +40-55 hrs a week at work. but thats because we know how, not because its being given to us. i say consolidate your accounts to one like we are drop the other subscripts. and invest that acct/time/money in a new game that will be a challenge cause thats what keep players. and with every patch wow becomes more like super mario cart, with a 14.99 price tag attatched to it.
Hay im the “Nerd” at school cause I play WoW. I have 2 Qs
Im lvl 32 NE Hunter with all 3 mounts
and i just can figure out how to lvl
. So i was 1dering can ne1 help me i play on the Forgotten Coast, my name is Metrinosis.

1: Can ne1 help me lvl
2: When dose WotLK come out… dose ne1 know?
If u have ne info pst!!!
To Metrinosis
1. You just need to quest as much as possible, doing multiple quests in one run is even better if you can do it. There’s even a mod that’s able to make it faster called Questhelper on curse.com. Doing quests with other people can make it much faster as well.
2. WotLK should come out somewhere in November, but I’m not exactly sure.
This is just a money spinner for wow no matter which you look at it.
If wow was interested in helping you, they would allow you to level an alt for the same benefits they are offering by trapping a friend in a separate account, meaning you don’t need to folk out an extra 15$ a month to level a toon faster to 60. The issue with this new deal is not about peeps not playing there class well that happens already, it about making more money, blizzard has enough all ready.
