Archenemis,

Progress on the PTR (Public Test Realms) and any open Beta testing will not transfer once the game goes live. You will be playing on a toon that you transfer (copy) from your current toons on your account or a Death Knight you create from scratch (most likely level 55 or 70). Once the Beta ends, everything just goes away.

The purpose for the test is to find out what is wrong with the software and Blizz needs a lot of people testing everything to work out all the little bugs that are left as well as balancing issues. Once they have all the bugs worked out it all goes away.

Why would anyone want to do something that just goes "poof?" To be the first to do it and gain an advantage when everyone is playing for keeps.

I'm not completely sure but i would say that we would not get the extra lvls/experience because if there are any bugs that allow you to level up easier (eg. a creature type gives the same amount of xp regardless of what lvl you are.) then it wont be there in the public realms which would give everyone that was picked for the WotLK test an unfair advantage.

But bear in mind, I'm not completely sure, that's just my opinion.

I know little about Beta testing so this may be an ignorant question buuuuttttt....

If we are one of the lucky chosen from the lotto and we level our character to say 75 while in Beta; will the progress be transferred or saved when it is realeased to the public officially?

Seeing as you register your entire account for the beta, it seems unlikely that they are looking at the individual characters much. I hope I get to try it. I missed my chance to do the WC3 one way back when. :(

James,

I posted this on the 4th, you will notice that the banner from the Blizz page was posted on the 3rd, so I'm not sure how you got that we were a half a week late.

There was a similar announcement on the wow Europe site a few days earlier, but so many people hit the thing it jammed or something and nobody could use that link for days.

There were also several scams out there in advance of the true Beta opt-in where folks had put up shell sites made to look exactly like the wow home pages in order to steal people's log-in names and passwords.

In the interest of fairness, I posted this announcement as soon as I could after weeding through some of the problems myself as well as making sure I was sending people to the correct place in order to ensure that none of our readers got their account stolen. Sometimes being safe and completely accurate takes a little time.

As far as this announcement coming on the Europe site first, as well as Blizz-con being held in Paris we can only assume that Blizzard is seriously intent on expanding their presence in Europe with not only WoW, but also the upcoming D3. In other words, most favored nation status for you American dudes may be on the back burner for a while -

I also don't necessarily want DYS to become a rumor mill or news agency either. Awesome tip and hints is exactly what we do and we think we do it better than anyone else. So you'll just have to forgive me for not being the fastest guy to press for every little tidbit of news out there, plus there's that whole scam thing we have to watch out for.

My apologies (sort of) for not having this up on the 3rd!

If you guys really wanted us to get ahead, wouldn't you have posted this as soon as it was up? Aka half a week ago?

Just saying, this is poor turnaround time from a staff that's usually awesome with hints and tricks.

I think it'll be a little bit of both. They want the normal every day player to test out the beta, but they also want the High end guilds like SK gaming etc to test out the more hardcore aspects of the game quicker, and with more scrutiny.

I wouldnt pay even a hundred dollars for the chance to play beta. I'm sure it will be fun, but the fact remains that its the same game. So is the selection of players just like a lotto drawing or something? Or are they looking for certain kinds of players.
