New Alt? Dance Your Way To 70 Fast
Posted on June 23rd, 2008 by Gavin under Efficiency Tips, Faster Leveling, World of WarcraftOver the next 11 days you have a unique opportunity. If you’ve been thinking about starting a new toon or cruising one of your current alts up to level 70 don’t waste another minute!
The midsummer festival is in full swing right now all over the WoW landscape. While there are events associated with the festival that we will cover tomorrow (such as some serious gold to be made) today we wanted to let you in on how the festival can really buff your leveling runs.
In each zone there are bonfires burning. The bonfires are lit every midsummer to symbolize the hottest part of the year with flames. This all seems a little silly to me, but hey, people do silly stuff all the time when they are making up excuses to have a party! Wouldn’t ice cream be better for this time of year? Oh well, I guess fires when it’s already hot outside is fine.
When you visit a bonfire controlled by your faction (Alliance or Horde) there are several things you can do that will give you rewards or buffs. You can also earn some nice change by visiting bonfires controlled by the other faction and snuffing them out! Here’s how this festival is a once a year opportunity to level those alts.
When you complete midsummer festival quests you will receive an item called Burning Blossoms. These blossoms can be used at the bonfires to light them or you can collect a lot of them and turn them in for some fairly decent rewards. The quests are easy and mostly involve running to talk to various NPC’s so it’s pretty easy to collect the blossoms.
As you are out questing be sure to keep a few blossoms in your bag and be aware of the locations for all the bonfires in the zone as well as nearby zones. Whenever someone lights the bonfire (of your faction) for the zone you are in you will get a buff that adds a 30% chance to add fire damage to each attack you make. The amount of fire damage is pretty big and scales with the level of your character. At lower levels it normally results in a one-shot kill when it procs. At level 70 this buff adds a chance to do 700 fire dmg. But the fire damage buff is only the beginning!
You’ll want to stock up on burning blossoms for this next buff. If you use a burning blossom near a bonfire that is already lit you will also gain +3% to your critical hit rating. This buff also adds fire damage to each attack! You can actually gain this buff as well as the bonfire buff every time you light the fire yourself using a Burning Blossom. With both of the fire damage buffs and increased crit chance you will be blowing mobs up like an elite.
At each bonfire there is also a pole. Dancing around the pole gives you an experience per kill reward of +10%! To dance all you have to do is toggle the gear cursor when standing near the pole. Your toon will go into a frenzied spinning dance and you can watch the experience buff increase as you spin.
Be sure to dance for about 60 seconds every time you visit the pole. This buff has a sort of “slow fill” on the countdown timer. The longer you dance, the longer the buff lasts - up to 60 minutes.
You can see how stacking these three buffs can really speed up your leveling times. Don’t waste this chance to scoot through about 50 levels over the next 11 days. You won’t get an opportunity like this for another year. Get out there now and Dominate with those alts!

the ribbon dance buff is a 3 min stacking buff which stacks every 3 seconds to a maximum of 60 mins (1 min worth of dancing)
A minor correction: The Fire Festival Fury buff doesnt add fire damage to your attacks, it just causes fire damage to anyone who attacks you. Interestingly, enemies will continue to take fire damage even if they are hammering on something like a Power Word Shield, making it different than Thorns and Retribution Aura which only work if the player is getting hit and taking damage.
The Bonfires Blessing says it procs 30% of the time but it seems alot lower to me… Still, at level 39, it does more damage than a 5 point eviserate on my rogue.
These buffs do make leveling alot easier but they do have their downsides. The Bonfire Blessing is restricted to the region you are in and most fires are easisly snuffed by a passing 70. Bonfire Blessing will not carry over to instances or BG, so don’t count on it. A downside to the other 2 buffs is that if you die they are gone and you will have to go all the way back to a town in order to get the buff back. It doesnt seem like much of a hassel but if you are in the middle of questing, you dont want to hike back in forth between town and your destination.
@Ren.
30% Proc Chance seems to have a 45 sec internal cool down.
(45 secs till it can proc again)
This is completely missing the midsummer quests in your capitals. Everyone has an alt in a capital city which is just sitting there whilst you occupy your time with something more important.
These quests are easy to do in under 5 mins. They reward 1/11 ish of a lvl per quest and there are two dailies.
Thats 2/11 and with the remaining days thats atleast a whole level simply by logging on.
Also those redundant 70s that cant be used for grinding or doing dailies can make you 24G a day simply by doing these dailies. This is an awesome beneefit to you if you are like me a casual player. I have leveld 5 chars already from a whole level. It has really escaped those long grinds and quest runs.
TAKES 5 MINS PER CHAR. 4 70s is 100G in 20 mins. GUARANTEED. ur not going anywhere. GET THERE FAST. This is the best festival yet
I should Probably Say that the quest im refering to are attainable from the fire eater at your capital bonfire. and Word of warning to alliance. Ironforge fire is bugged so the catching quest is really hard.
A nice point of note, I think, is snuffing the opposite faction’s bonfires. There was mention of a post about the profits, but in terms of just raw experience, my lvl 67 last night snuffed the alliance fire in Nagrand and got over 11K xp for it. It does decrease for lower level areas, but even your own factions, pre 70, give a good amount of xp for a simply visit. It is well worth looking into.
The Bonfires Blessing must have an internal timer to it. A 30% chance would have to be proccing a LOT more than it is if it’s free. No idea what it is, but it looks as if it’s quite long.
There are twenty bars in a single level and each friendly fire you visit gets you about 1 bar of exp. I dont know about exp, but the rewards of money and flowers are doubled for snuffing out an enemies fire.
If you’re getting towards the end of the area you’re questing in (most noticeably in outlands), the rate of exp from clearing quests can really start to tail off as you’re specnding all your time running between quest givers and objectives to finish off that last line. At this point, why not go travelling?
If you stop off at every contested area in kalimdor and eastern kingdoms (not to mention any outlands areas you pop into), you can rack up about 100g and a huge chunk of exp.
Fly to the alliance town in an area and pop over to the bonfire. Then mount up and run to the horde town in that area and snuff theirs. That’s 10g (or at least, it is at level 65) and a fair bit of experience right there, and if you repeat that in every area you have the flight point in you can rake in some serious cash.
Stop at the blood elf capital (Silvermoon I think?) if you’re alliance for some extra gold, it’s so deserted over there that as long as you can take out the odd level 65 guard you’ll be able to snuff out their fire easily. But a warning, there’s a hell of a gathering of guards at the entrance, so it might only be soloable as a rogue with vanish, since at least one of them can detect stealth.
