Artisan Fishing Quest - Part 1, Nat Pagle
Posted on June 21st, 2008 by Gavin under Efficiency Tips, Trade SkillsBy now you know that we’re big fans of fishing for your main character. We know it seems like a big pain to level fishing, but it can become a good money-maker when combined with cooking in the end game. Beyond that, you can get lots of decent buffs from cooked fish - most of which are just as good, if not better, than buffs from high-end alchemy potions; and the mats are so much easier to get.
In the career of an angler, you can train the first two levels at the fishing trainers to get to skill level 150. after that, you have to get the book “Expert Fishing - The Bass and You.” From Old Man Hemming in Booty Bay. But once you reach level 225, you have to do a quest to get the Artisan level training. This guide is going to walk you through that quest chain. Once you finish this quest and can go to 325, all you have to do is grab the next book, “Master Fishing - The Art of Angling” from Juno Dufrain at Cenarion Refuge in Zangaramarsh.
But let’s take a look at the Artisan Quest and tell you the easiest way through the thing. There are a couple of starter quests you can do to help you find Nat Pagle, but we’ve never done them. Just go straight to Nat. He’s on a little Island in the bay almost due west of the piers of Theramore. His coordinates are 59,60 and here’s what the fellow looks like, just chillin’ on his own little island (and drinking a bit too much we might add).
It’s a little easier for Alliance to get to Nat than Horde, since Ally toons can just jump off the docks after taking the boat from Menethil to Theramore. Horde toons will have to run from the Barrens and then through the Dustwallow Marsh. Or they can fly to Brakenwall Village and then run over to the Bay.
The following Screen shots will walk you through getting to Nat if you’re Alliance. From where the boat docks, run to the second red block as shown on this shot from the mini map.
Pay attention to which way you should be facing - like this:
Now that you’re facing about the right direction, this is what you would see if you were looking back toward the docks.
From here, Swim straight toward this little lump in the distant mountains.
After swimming for about 20 seconds you’ll see this Island straight ahead:
Swim around this Island on the left side as shown with the red path. As soon as you round this island, you will be able see Nat standing on the one behind it.
If you take a look at the mini map, you can see what that will look like when you get close, as well as the path you should swim in red.
Here we are standing behind Nat, looking back toward Theramore, so you can get an idea of how to get back, as well as a shot of his location on the World Map.
Please note the level 42 Thresher in the water near the other Island. Those guys are all over the place, so swim carefully if you are under level 40.
For Horde, just take this path to the coast, and then hug the coastline, staying out of the water as much as possible until the coast breaks back to the west. From the Barrens, follow the Yellow path. Yes it is easier to run up the road and avoid as many mobs as possible. There are lots of Lobster guys in the water along the coast, so the going can be a little rough since they have a frost bolt attack that will slow you down and make running from them difficult - especially if they catch you in the water.
You can get this quest only after level 35 and only if you have completely maxed out your fishing skill at 225. And, honestly, you wouldn’t be able to go to the places you’re going to need to go until at least level 40, so don’t sweat this quest until then.
Here’s the link to the Quest on WoWhead - http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6607
Nat asks you to go catch four unique fish and then return to him when you bag them all. In part two later this week on DYS we’re going to do is show you the fastest order to go get these fish, and the best spots to fish. If you follow our directions you should be able to complete this entire quest in about an hour, and that is truly dominating!

I dont mean to be rude but standard quests like this are things you can find on thottbot or wowhead. Because the location of all the fish is given in the quest its up to the players common sense to find the fastest route. I don’t think this demands a second posting.
I respectfully beg to differ; I’ve only done this quest once and it was a major pain in the ass. I tried to incorporate the fishing into regular levelling according to Joana’s guide, and it didn’t seem that efficient. It is true that any player can do the quest and find the fish, but I’d be interested in the fastest route.
Oh Ren…you wine too much….its all about fun…happy happy joy joy
Post more info…sum noobs like to read and learn from the pros like Gavin
This is not a standard quest, this is a “Profession quest” advancement to artisan, Much like a “class quest”=(non-standard) I have done this one myself more than 20 times on 3 accts. I have it memorized. But, Some people have not, some do not have coords, and believe it or not this may be someones 1st time on it and the places to go are new as well more than likely based on the level req and the places to go. So for us veterans no we certainly don’t need this, but if this were a veteran’s walkthrough it wouldn’t be an artisan fishing quest would it. Listen, move on, or unsubscribe. Thanks GG keep up the great work you volunteer your time to.
@Ren
I have to wrongly disagree. There are some people I’ve ran into that thought Feralas was on Eastern Kingdoms and Swamp of Sarrows Outland. Plus I do like to see if Gavin, and other writers at DYS used a different route then me.
The better thing to do would be to go to Mudsprocket, which in the mid 30’s you would be going to anyhow if you already haven’t. Pick up the FP for when you will be questing there, if you already haven’t, and take the path to the shore by the zeppelin crash sight, which pretty much tkaes you right out to Pat, who coincidentally, is part of a quest chain (at least for alliance).
That way you can kill several orcs, oops birds, with one stone.
I have 2 agree with Ren…this is a simple Thottbot search. This isn’t a very worthy WoW tip, as it has been done before. Maybe those players who don’t know where things are should orientate themselves 2 areas before lvling to 70. I mean if u can’t get from point A to point B without asking someone u shouldn’t have a 70.
This is a good wow tip if you are not looking in Thottbot. I don’t do the fishing quest but after reading this tip, I’ll start fishing. Thanks for your tips even how small it is and NO I’m not a noob, I have several level 70’s and none of them have any fishing on their profession. I have some low level cooking for my rogue to make his tea and that’s all. Someone else has told me about the fishing advice and I just blow it off. I’ll start today if fishing will get me some G’s and some buffs.
Thanks for the posting gents and gentits. LOL
Always have fun if enjoy what your doing, ALWAYS!!!
Ren and Mojo-
We try to have a little something for everyone. As such, advanced players such as yourself will find some of our articles a bit beneath you.
However, try to keep in mind that others may benefit from these. Our goal is to help everyone… especially those who are still trying to get where you guys are.

Gavin, how in the hell do you so many NEWBS on here like Ren. Hey Ren, stop sucking your thumb and grow up. The info is for those that doesnt care to deal with their 2ndary skills. And yes thottbot and wowhead lists them. But not everything, cause guys like you dont care to put their input on to those site. cause you’re to busy dissin’ on the DYS crew with your petty crap.
SO GO SELL YOUR COOKIES LITTLE GIRL! I NEED MY SUBSCRIPTION FEE FOR WOW THIS MONTH!( points finger at Ren!)
Well well well, I guess I’m just the cynical SOB of the group. While I don’t appreciate being called a noob by people who can’t even compose a proper sentence, I should remind them that I intentionally used a polite tone in my disagreement with Gavin.
I have done this quest and beyond finding Nat Pagel (which you can find by asking around or lurking on the Thottbot fishing forums, as I did) the quest is pretty straight forward.
Here’s my advice on how to make this quest easier, don’t do it till level 40. It’s not going to kill you to wait 5 levels and the time you will save by riding on a mount instead of walking is significant. Additionally, you can avoid a lot more agro and fatal conflicts if you do it at a higher level.
Additionally, the areas where you actually get the rare fish are mostly uninhabited by monsters, so once you get there, you are safe.
~Respectfully, Ren
lol
pretty much everything can be found on thottbot, wowhead, alakazam (not sure if thats spelled right) or any other site for wow, BUT, having others tell thier story of the easiest ways and fastest ways they have found is very helpfully for anyone no matter how long you have played or what “level of skill” you consider yourself. i have been reading these posts since they started coming out and i get frustrated everytime because theres is always someone who has to “bash, flame, or whatever you want to call it” i look at it this way if you dont have anything positive or experience to add to the post keep you negativity to yourself.
i have been playing for about 2 years now and i still find some things in here interesting and i am very interested to see what path is suggested in this fishing quest since i do have a char coming up on doing this quest.
and to everyone who is giving out thier ideas and such great job and keep up the good work.
I happen to like the ideas that GG gives everyone and i don’t see where Ren really did anything to be called a noob. Technically if he was its not like we all haven’t had to start somewhere before and i think that GG’s guide are quite helpful to someone who has no experience to the topic he puts his time and effort into. For someone who just started fishing like me but has a high end char. and doesn’t want to have to alt-tab out of WoW to go on thottbot this topics are perfect. Keep up the good work Gavin and i look forward to seeing more.
Once you get past 225 is when it really becomes a pain to level, especially if you wait until you are higher level. I waited until I was 70 to complete the artisen fishing, and now I find it horribly boring to fish, especially since you only level up once for every 8 or so fish caught.
I am not high enough level to fish in Outland, and travelling to Tanaris or the other zones where I can is a pain! I wish I would have actually done this when it was level appropriate.
I will have to agree with ren on this one. the first words in his post were ” I don’t mean to be rude” that was his opinion no need to bash it.
@ HYDRAXIS LORD!!!
I dont know what half of your post said but
“SO GO SELL YOUR COOKIES LITTLE GIRL! I NEED MY SUBSCRIPTION FEE FOR WOW THIS MONTH!( points finger at Ren!)”
really? how does that post help anyone.
@ Gavin
nice info in this post but nothing you cant find on thottbot, wowhead, or the overpowered add-on lightheaded.
I for one have been running WoW for 3+yrs now and have yet to get a toon to over 75 fishing skill o_O I am planning on getting to max on my present “main” so I find this post very helpful and am looking forward to the next installment. You don’t have to be a nOOb for something to be new to you. No one knows everything and having ppl like these here at DYS giving us these tidbits is a most wonderful thing. Yes yes it can be found on thott, wowhead, alla, and so forth but I personnally hate to go back and forth between the game and a website. Take it for what it is and have fun with it. Thnx for another quality post Gav. Peace and good will hunting.
@Ren
well ren if your so good how come you use quest helpers then?
I didnt brag anywhere about my skills… I think people need their vision checked.
once you get your skill to a higher lvl such as over 300 it takes like every 12 or so fish to lvl give or take a couple
