Alliance 1-70 in 5 Days 8 Hours

Posted by Gavin in Alliance, Faster Leveling

alliance70.jpg

I’ve been good friends with Glutony for quite awhile now… at least since early 2006. In that time, I’ve helped him go from being a complete and utter noob to one of the best players out there.

However, Glutony has one major character flaw: he plays Alliance. Oh well, nobody is perfect LOL

Glutony has recently broken what is believed to be the record for solo leveling a new character with no twinking, no cheating, and no rested xp. Granted, he plays Alliance, but when someone can level up to 70 in 5 days, 8 hours /played time, I’m going to sit up and take notice.

Glutony sent me a copy of his new Alliance leveling guide last week, and I’ve been checking it out for the past few days. The first thing that really stood out to me about his guide is that he doesn’t assume that you know where an NPC hangs out. Unlike guides of the past, he actually gives coordinates for everything and everywhere – just pop them into TomTom or Cartographer, and off you go.

Another really great addition to this guide is his options/settings/addons build out. He provides you with all the addons he uses, and what in-game settings he uses (auto loot on, fast quest text, etc), so even if you’re really new to the game, you can make sure all your ducks are in a row.

It also doesn’t matter which race you want to play – he’s got all of the Alliance starting areas in his guide, so you’re not forced to play a race you’re not interested in.

All of that is well and good, but what really stood out to me was his ingenious questing routes. I hardly ever play Alliance, but I do have a couple Alliance 70s, and I remember well the “standard” questing routes. His are pretty darn quick compared to the other guides out there (and his final /played time to 70 reflects that.)

If you’re in the market for an Alliance leveling guide, this is now the ONLY one I am recommending.

Just see for yourself…

Look, I can tell you how good Glutony’s Alliance Guide is until I’m blue in the face, but what really matters is what YOU think of it. You can pick up your copy in just minutes, and there’s absolutely no risk to you. Glutony told me “I don’t want anyone buying my guide and then regretting it, so I’m offering a FULL 8 week money-back guarantee to anyone who buys my guide and doesn’t absolutely LOVE it!”

So, get your hands on the absolute FASTEST Alliance 1-70 guide out there, at a very affordable price, with a 100% satisfaction, no-questions asked money-back guarantee. You simply cannot lose.

So, head on over to Glutony’s site and check it out – you’ll be glad you did!

Easy Money

Posted by Gavin in Auction House, Gold Building

There are a lot of ways to turn an easy profit and make decent gold in WoW. We live in an information age, and that also applies to WoW. What you know can be very valuable. We apply this to limited supply recipes all the time.

Limited supply recipes are those recipes you can only get from certain vendors and they usually only carry one at a time. Once you buy the recipe, you have to wait for the thing to respawn in their inventory before you can buy another one. The spawn timers for limited supply items ranges from 5 minutes to more than 24 hours. One of our favorite limited supply recipes is one for engineers – the Mithril Mechanical Dragonling.

The MMD recipe can be purchased from Ruppo Zipcoil in the Hinterlands. That means you need to be about level 50 before you can survive the run to his shop. He’s a little tricky to find, but we’re going to show you exactly where he is. The MMD recipe also has a short timer. Most of the time this recipe will respawn within 15-25 minutes. So when you are running around doing the hinterlands grind, it’s a pretty easy thing to grab 5-10 of these. For alliance, he’s an easier run from the FP, so you might want to drop by the Hinterlands from time to time if you happen to be flying nearby to plaguelands and chillwind point.

The recipe sells for a mere 40 silver and can fetch as much as 4-10 gold on most servers. Talk about markup! Check out the map below to see how to find this dude and turn some silver into gold double quick.

The yellow circle indicates the location of the little hut where Ruppo hangs out. For alliance, follow the blue path from Aerie Peak, Horde toons run the Red path from Revantusk Village. What you are looking for is a big rock just northeast of Quel’Danil Lodge.

Facing north from the rock take a slight turn to the right and follow a narrow path up the hill.  When you get to a dead-end, just hook a sharp left, and you’ll be right on top of the hut.  When you see the gears sticking up out of the ground, you’re there.

Once inside talk to Ruppo and open a buy screen from him and turn to page 2 – you can see the plans in the top left.

That’s all there is to it. Go mess around farming some Mithril or questing for a bit and come grab another one. You should be able to pick up enough of these schematics to make a good 8-40 gold in a little over and hour and a half. Not bad for spending a few silver. This recipe tends to sell pretty quickly as well since it is not only limited supply but in a really out of the way place that only level 50+ toons can reach. That makes it pretty rare – only those in the know – like you – sell this one.

Gavin Needs Your Help!

desolace kodo world of warcraft

Hello to all you Gavin groupies out there! This is Lawbringer, a staffer here at Dominate Your Server. I help Gavin with research and development here at the site and we’ve got a killer opportunity for all you serious WoW players.

You might be wondering why Gavin isn’t telling you this news if it’s so great. Well, while working on his new leveling guide (maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that, forget I ever said anything about it), his hands and arms were mangled beyond recognition in a horrible stampede during the completion of the quest “Kodo Roundup” in Desolace.

I mean, he really took one for the team this time. The guy is a complete Warcraft freak. To make matters worse, it took me a while to figure out what he wanted me to write today, since he has also lost his voice (no joke). I think he was typing with his nose during our IM session (which would explain the horrid spelling). When G isn’t writing about WoW, he’s talking about it. All the time – the hard part is getting him to shut up. Laryngitis has now set in and he’s completely out of service.

Needless to say, it will be a while before the first aid trainers can get him back typing all those killer tips and tricks you all like so much. That’s where you come in.

Think you know as much about WoW as Gavin? Now’s your chance to prove it. Many of you post regularly here at the site, and now you have a shot at being a regular staff writer for Dominate Your Server!

I couldn’t be any happier about working for Gavin here at Dominate Your Server. I mean, how cool is it to get paid to play WoW? Out of the millions of people who play this game, it’s so awesome to be one of the very few who get paid to do what I would be doing for free.

So here’s what Gavin is going to do. We’re holding a contest starting, well, right now. The contest will run for two weeks only. During these next two weeks, you can submit up to five articles about World of Warcraft. Gavin and the DYS (Dominate Your Server) staff, including myself, will judge those entries based on the following criteria:

25% Style – the more fun it is to read, the more we will like it. Originality and humor captivates readers.
25% Content – Accurate information is the only thing that will make the cut.
25% Expertise – If you can show that you have special and in-depth knowledge about a specific area of the game, such as your class, build, PVP, professions, or Raiding please feel free to impress us.
25% Grammar and Syntax – Our writers are painstakingly selected and masters of their craft. We don’t want to have to hire an editor to clean up messy structure.

Besides bragging rights in the game, and some notoriety here in the real world, there are also killer prizes to be had. The winner gets $500 bucks and a staff writing job here at DYS. Second place $250 dollars, and third prize is $100. Nice! Third prize pays your WoW account fees for 6 months!

Articles should be between 500-1000 words. Screenshots need to be no wider than 475 pixels and should be no larger than 30k, preferably PNG format. Submit your articles in a zipped file to contest@dominateyourserver.com – If you include screenshots; no more than 5 per article, and put each article and its screenshots in a separate subfolder in the zip file so we can tell what shots go with which article. Also, leave us clear notes in the article telling us where the screenshots should be placed.

Articles must be submitted before midnight on May 28th, and we’ll announce the winners on Saturday, May31st. What a great way to start June – 5 crisp, new $100 dollar bills in your pocket and a sweet new job to boot!

We all sure hope big G gets the use of his larynx and phalanges back very soon, but his misfortune is your gain! So start writing, and always remember to Dominate!

The Pet Set

Posted by Gavin in Exploits, Hunter Pets

(Spoiler Alert)

In the not too distant future, we plan to release a complete set of guides covering just about everything you guys have ever asked for. The following article is based on a section of our Hunter’s Toolkit. The Hunter Toolkit tells you everything you need to know to completely master playing a hunter in any tree, any instance, any zone you could ever encounter. In short, it contains every tool you could ever need to fine tune your hunter play even if you’ve never played on before!

Just to give you an idea how thorough this guide is we’ve pulled a short excerpt from the pet section. We made sure that we covered virtually every move a hunter could ever want to make, and this little gem is a tiny part of the hunter toolkit, but it’s only a very small part of the complete hunter guide. We call it the Pet Set.

(Spoiler Information Follows)

The Pet Set

In reality, this should really be called: the Cat Attack. It will only work with cats with the prowl ability. Here’s what it looks like:

Pet Prowl / Eyes of the Beast / Stealth to Target / Pet@ (attack)

Oh boy, do people hate this. With your pet in prowl, they are incredibly hard to detect. This works best if you have 3 points in Hawk Eye so you can shoot from further away than almost any class in the game. Once your pet prowls; toggle Eyes of the Beast so that you control your pet. Now you can stealth up to a target from WAY out of range and completely hidden behind a hill, building or forest full of trees.

Once your pet is close enough, just hit pet attack. Your pet will begin to chew their face off. Since they can’t see you, they will often mistake your pet for a mob and begin to fight it – Big mistake! As soon as your pet lands a hit, Eyes of the Beast will fade and you can begin to run toward your opponent. Stop at the very edge of your range and begin a nuclear shot rotation. By the time they figure out what’s going on – they are usually dead.

If you move to a new location after they die and hide in another spot somewhere else it’s golden. While they are on their corpse run, you can just use Eagle Eye to watch their corpse spawn from a mile away. As soon as they res and sit down to eat, just put your pet back in prowl and do the whole thing over again. After being killed a couple of times and never once seeing who is killing them, they will usually give up and leave the zone.

This technique is also particularly useful for attacking players several levels higher than your own. Because your pet will have done some serious damage to them before you even start to fire, they will already be weakened. Combine that with the fact that they will have to try to find and attack you; and they will have to ignore your pet for longer than normal to get you targeted. This gives your pet another 5 seconds or so of tearing the skin off their bodies. While this is going on; you’re burning them to the ground with a virtually uninterrupted Shot Rotation series. If they happen to survive long enough to find you and get started in your direction, you can just twist at max range and keep firing. We’ve seen hunters take down PVP opponents 8-10 levels higher using this technique.

Professions – The Basics

Posted by Gavin in General Tips, Trade Skills

Choosing a profession is a lot like picking a pet or even what you want your toon to look like. Everyone has an opinion, and they all work. But what we want you to do is Dominate. If you really want to maximize your gear and earning abilities there are some professions that stand out from the rest.

Of course, we have a complete model at Dominate Your Server that can put you head-and-shoulders above everyone else on your server. But for the casual WoW player who hasn’t leveled all of the professions yet, we can give you a few great tips on choosing a profession based on class synergies and marketability.

You can only have two professions at a time, so every character will force you to make some interesting choices. Let’s give you a little list of certain classes that work very well with certain professions as well as our top picks for money-making.

All Classes – Everyone should have at least one gathering profession at least until level 70. After that, you may choose to do two production professions for the epic gear. Your gathering profession should feed your production profession so you are not forced to buy all of your mats at the AH. But we recommend starting almost every character with two of the gathering professions; Mining, Herbalism, or Skinning until after level 30 or so when you can actually train the really useful patterns from the trainers.

Rogues, Shaman and Druids – Skinning and Leatherworking. Since these guys are stuck with wearing leather Armor, this can keep you in decent gear all the way through the game.

Mage, Priest, Warlocks – Engineering and Tailoring. These professions make really useful gear for cloth-wearing classes. Combine with skinning with tailoring, and mining with engineering and you’ll have most of your mats for these professions.

Hunters – Engineering and Enchanting. We like guns better than bows for the most part, since it’s much easier to find (or in this case make) guns with more DPS than bows at comparable level requirements. Also, ammo from engineering outclasses arrows at every step of the way.

Warrior, Paladin – Mining and Blacksmithing. With the new specializations in weapon making skills in Blacksmithing, these guys can really take advantage of some truly epic weapons, as well as keeping themselves in decent armor.

Interestingly enough, it turns out that skinning with tailoring is maybe the best combo for a caster class for both gear and gold-making. Tailoring uses skins, but not a lot of them, so you can sell your extras at the ah. Beyond that, bags can earn serious money since everyone needs them and the majority of them are not soulbound.

Utility professions including Alchemy and Jewelcrafting can make decent money, but not enough to get overly excited about. You should really only think about using these two professions on one of your secondary teams.

And our favorite is enchanting. Enchanting is the cash cow profession, and nothing else comes close. We actually consider Enchanting to be one of the gathering professions since we use it primarily to gather enchanting mats to sell at the AH. You don’t do this profession to enchant for others, but to disenchant items and sell the materials. Let someone with no life find all the nearly impossible recipes. You’ll make enough money to pay for the uber enchants, and have enough left over to buy anything else you want. This profession is a must have for one of your toons if you are serious about Dominating Your Server.

If you’ve only got time to play one or two teams, you should do Mining/Enchanting with Skinning/tailoring to start. This will maximize your earning potential so that you can buy whatever you think you really need. Soon we are going to post a complete set of articles on power leveling each profession from 1-375, as well as a full list of what professions we give our teams to Dominate.

Never Take The Wrong Taxi Again

Posted by Gavin in Efficiency Tips, General Tips

Blizzard calls them taxis. Most of us in the WoW community call them Flight Paths (FP for short.) And they make travel a breeze throughout Azeroth. Without them you would be running yourself or your mount to death. Envision a world where you spent most of your time running – not very fun. So we can definitely thank the good folks at Blizzard for putting those wonderful birds and bats into the game for us.

But we know this has happened to you: You get on the taxi and then you’re fiddling around with your bags or quests killing time and then you suddenly remember “I am about to fly right past a quest turn-in!” But you’re stuck on the bird until you land. Unfortunately Blizzard will not allow us to dismount a taxi or land at a destination we didn’t fly to directly. Sometimes I would rather be able to jump off the bird at like 500 yards in the air and take the corpse run.

This only leaves you with two very unsavory choices. You can either take the bird right back to your missed location, or hope that you remember to do it on the return trip. Since you’ve probably already forgotten it once (and usually more if you’re like me) the chances are that you may eventually just abandon the quest or item if it goes to gray.

Well, we’re not going to blow you away with some uber technique on this one, but there is a simple way to avoid ever making this mistake again. It’s just common sense, but unless you do it a few times and make it a habit you will inevitably take the wrong taxi at least once every level and end up wasting gobs of time just flying around in circles.

What we like to do is fly from one taxi node to the very next one, allow ourselves to dismount and then get back on the taxi to the next destination in the series. Since the cost is the same between the locations regardless of whether you fly over each base or land there, it will not cost you a single copper more. Even on long flights, it will add very little time to the entire flight. All taxi routes take the bird through a landing pattern much like a real airport, instead of flying right over the node, so it doesn’t waste more than about 2 seconds to go ahead and land. Furthermore, it only takes about 4 seconds to toggle the flight master screen and select the next location, so on a route through 5 FP spots we’re talking about adding 15-25 seconds to the trip.

If you do this you can eliminate several headaches. If you’ve flown in the entirely wrong direction, it’s much easier to just turn around and take the right trip. If you’ve forgotten something, you can be sure that you land in the right spot to buy that limited quantity recipe or turn in that quest in your log that’s been there for like 6 levels.

So if you have a forgetful streak, and want to be truly efficient with your time; give this little trick a shot. We guarantee you’ll be glad you did many times before you hit level 70.

You Can Do It!

Posted by Gavin in Efficiency Tips, Faster Leveling

If you’ve ever tried to level a priest, you know it’s a big fat pain in the robe until you get well into the 40’s. We’re going to outline some talent selections that will take some of the pain out of the process for you.

One of the most important things to concentrate on as a young priest is gear with +spirit. Before level 40, it can be tough to find gear with + to Spirit and + to Spell Damage. When in doubt, take spirit. At higher levels, you’ll be able to get gear with both.

Next, always hit the AH every time you’re in town and make sure you’ve got the highest damage wand you can find for your level. You’ll be wanding a LOT when leveling. We love wands because they do high damage and are pretty cheap for the most part on the AH. Using your wand will help you regenerate mana while still fighting, and the damage will end up being pretty comparable to spells until after level 40.

Now let’s talk about your secret weapon. Low level priests don’t have any really terrific DPS offensive skills. So you’re going to use Shadow Word Pain to amp your attack, then one offensive spell, and then wand them to death. A priest with no mana is dead, dead, dead. So what we’re doing here is giving you the biggest possible mana pool and doing whatever it takes to protect it. As long as you’ve got mana, you can heal yourself faster than mobs can damage you in most cases, then you can just run away and try again. Or you can wand for a while, bubble, heal, then wand some more.

At level 10 you’ll start getting talent points to spend. Here’s how to place them until level 40:
- 10-14: 5/5 Spirit Tap
- 15-19: 5/5 Wand Spec (trust us)
- 20-21: 2/2 Improved Shadow Word: Pain
- 22-24: 3/5 Shadow Focus
- 25: Mind Flay (This skill isn’t great before lvl36 anyway)
- 26-27: 5/5 Shadow Focus (HIGHLY recommended over Blackout)
- 28-29: 2/2 Imp Psychic Scream
- 30-31: 2/2 Shadow Reach
- 32-34: 3/5 Shadow Weaving
- 35-37: 3/3 Focused Mind
- 38: Vampiric Embrace
- 39: Silence

These talent buffs will make your run to 40 so much easier. The real key is in Spirit Tap. This little gem doubles your mana after a kill, and has a chance to add 50% mana regeneration as well. Combined with plenty of +spirit gear, and you’ll almost never have mana issues.

The wand specialization is a nice buff to your wand, and the rest of the shadow talents really help your DPS and survivability. If you plan on grinding all the way to 70, you’ll probably stay Shadow Spec. If you are already running heals for guild-mates at lower levels, you won’t have to worry too much about going solo all the time and you can respec holy.

Up to level 40, you won’t miss the increase to your heals too much with the Shadow Talents, you should be able to heal just fine with your base spells.
